Ice hockey in the Lower Hudson Valley with Harold Gutmann

Monroe-Woodbury 5, Rye 2

March
10

Well, the Garnets fell behind early again, and it was too much to come back from. 5-0 after the first period. Then 5-2 at the end of the second. There were a lot of opportunities that escaped Rye throughout the game. I’m working on the story for the paper, and then going back for the Suffern game.

  1. omg

    3/6 prediction correct
    MW will win state

  2. hockey

MW shouldnt even be allowed to play tomorow
they have a school population of nearly 2500 students compared to ryes 500, im not taking anything away from the players, they played hard and are very talented. However the fact that they are playing schools 1/5 their size is ridiculous!

  3. hockeyperl

Congrats to Rye. What a great season.

( pure definition of a good TEAM:
    Together Everyone Achieves More )

  4. Garnets

Best TEAM I’ve ever been apart of. League Title, Section Title, and Regional Title aint to shabby.

  5. UPDATES

    suffern score?

  6. Is it True?

Heard Suffern was losing 2-0. Is that true? Does anyone know?

  7. go suffern

    0-0 after one

  8. itsabreeze

    Outstanding Season Rye !!!

You started the season with a less then enthusiastic letter of support from your School Board & Superintendent putting the entire Hockey program on notice…..and you ROCKED all season long.

You exceeded everyones expectations and did it the entire season without a single game misconduct or fight for which your board was so eager to use against you !!!!!!

Will be interesting to watch the less then friendly towards sports School Board debate next years budget and whether Hockey should remain at Rye HS after your exceptional performance !!!!!

  11. cup979802

    Dan, you are killing us!!!

  12. afan

Gee, it’s nice to know there are other school boards, etc. who don’t care about the sports programs—at least we’re not alone.

  13. cup979802

    Suffern/Ithaca
    0-0 in OT!!

  14. LeMaire

I hear that Monroe Woodbury is playing another school in the championship that also has well over 1000 kids in the school. What a stupid system. Suffern and North should team up as one school and go in to states as a D2 school, just to further make a joke of it. Does the state have a criteria or definition of what a D2 school is? It seems they don’t. Good season Rye, you overachieving lilliputions. You should be proud. Please give us the suffern update ASAP!!!!

  15. itsabreeze

“hockey” I agree with you, MW should move up to D1. There not a D2 school. winning @ D2 for them is bush given there enrollment. Its like if they were shooting a bow and arrow at a barn an then walking up and drawing a bulls eyes around the arrow, no real glory in that. I saw them play CN this year and they are D1 caliber section 1 no problem. There coach should move them up if there enrollment numbers are 2500 Hello….......... Great job Rye great year

  16. Div 1

It’s been confirmed, Monroe Woodbury is moving to Section 1.
    As of Next Year

  17. Div 1

    sorry, I meant Division 1!

  18. Watch out Suffern!

MW returns all their players. Going to make things real tough for Suffern. Suffern might of wished they waited a year before making the move.

  19. MW

MW should move DIV 1 and Sec 1…better competion for them if they move to Sec 1

any updates bout Suffern and Ithica in OT??

  20. GO SUFFERN

3 OT’s 0-0. One waved off for Suffern..

  21. cup979802

Beginning of 3rd OT, still 0-0
Shots 47-13 in favor of Ithaca.
    Natoli is getting a workout!

  22. LeMaire

Why would suffern care? Clarkstown North beat MW, and North was the runner up in section 1. No doubt in my mind that if North was in D2 they would be in the state championship game.
Hey Div. 1 where are you getting your info?
And what is up with the USffern Score?

  23. LeMaire

The prep school scouts must be salivating to get a hold of Natoli after the show he is putting on in the states.

  24. One waved off for Suffern..

    2HY WAS IT WAIVED OFF?

  25. crusade?

Hey how about that Stepinac JV team? LOL :)

  26. crusade?

Schellings Blood Pressure must be skyrocketed at this point.

  27. cup979802

Waved off because the net was off the pegs. (per a poster on another website.

  28. One waived off for Suffern..

Come on Guys, You all know that we love that Stepinac JV team. They’re the best in Westchester County, then again I think they’re the best in the UNITED STATES. Go Crusaders!

    What a Joke!

  29. crusade?

    STILL 0-0??????????

  30. FIREMAN 2073

What is the other website posting info?

  31. purple

By the way, a typical win for MW, pound the team in the first, and then coast. They did the same thing to Rye in the Mamk tournament. Jumped all over them in the first….then coasted. They have been excellent the last two year MW, not the kids fault that they are in D2 so I don’t hold it against them.

  32. 914Fan

Oh please Purple, give it a rest. MW is a very good team and this is the state final four, they didnt coast, they kept up the heat all game. Rye regrouped after a tough first period and it was an even game the final two periods.

  33. cup979802

The other website that is getting updates is http://www.syracuse.com/forums/hshockey/index.ssf
0-0 with 5 min left in 4th OT!!!

  34. Let the Crying begin

    4th OT over, shootout begins

  35. GO SUFFERN

4 OT’s 0-0. Suffern loses in a shoot out 1-0. Great season biys. Hold your heads high!

  36. ryehs

great season boys, wouldnt trade bein on this team for anything, even the states.
cant wait till next year, we’ll pick up right where we left off

  37. One waived off for Suffern..

    4 OT’s… Shoot out now taking place…...
Ithaca 1 Suffern 0 First round! More to come

  38. itsabreeze

    Still waiting for another update

  40. One waived off for Suffern..

Final Ithaca 1 Suffern 0 in Shoot out….Came up a little short…...Next year.

  41. itsabreeze

Natoli hold your head high your 1st team all-state no question. Suffern great team, great coach, great year

  42. purple

How many goalies get all state? If there is only 1, Iles might get it even though he was not tested as much. Especially if they win the whole thing.

  43. hockeyalum

Just wanted to let the Garnets know how impressed we are with their season. You are true Champions! Clearly we draw from a small community, but the coaching staff built this team up and put them in contention to win it all. MW was a formidable opponent and skated a hard, clean game. Congrats and good luck in the Finals. Rye team- take your performance and your friendships with you on the road ahead. You’ve made us all very, very proud.

  44. giants hater

would anybody like to congradulate me on getting
the Rye Monroe score exatly correct?

  45. garnetteam

Thank you to all the Garnet Fans who supported us this year. You were a big part of our effort. Not many would board a bus at 5:30am on a Saturday to make the trip to Utica. You are the Champions.
