Ice hockey in the Lower Hudson Valley with Harold Gutmann

The end is near

March
29

Hockey season is over, as some of you may have noticed.

Now that the spring sports are getting started, it seems that High (school) Sticking is going away.

I don’t know the details, but I just wanted to warn you folks. I’ve heard things. We may not be around long enough to discuss the All-Star issue when it comes out (a blessing as well as a curse for me). We certainly won’t be around over the summer and fall to discuss off-season trade rumors, contract negotiations, etc.

Anyway, it’s been fun. If this blog is inaccessible when the all-star issue comes out, maybe some of the regulars can head over the LoHud forums and start a discussion about it. I’ll join in.

Nothing is over until we decide it’s over! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

  2. Niedermeyer...

    DEAD!

  3. afan

so get out the all-star names now—the kids know who they are already—why wait any longer when no one will care – put OUT THE LIST NOW!!!! Seems like all the other winter sports have done it already. Come on, Dan, spill the beans!

  4. jc

    “Germans????”
    “He’s on a roll.”
The all star thingy will be in the Journal News…whats the rush?

  5. HockDude

Hockey is always last. Everyone knows who is all-section in every sport but hockey. by the time it gets published, no one cares because the spring sports are in full “Bloom”.
    Shafted again!

    HD lives.

  6. Faber College

“Can you guess what I am now?”

  7. 2sense

by the time it’s in the journal news – NO ONE WILL CARE—c’mon already – get the pictures done and get it out!!!

  8. Blutarski

You guys act like it is going to be a big surprise. Just stick a picture of the Stepinac JV team in the paper and there you have it…Your ALL-LEague,all section, All County, and All State Team. Do you guys think that other players even have a shot at all section?

  9. HockDude

just for fun…anyone think Donohue WONT be Player of the Year in Westchester?

    3 forwards? 2 D? and Donohue.

  10. Starship trooper

Dan, thanks for sponsoring all the fun !! See you next fall I guess.

P.S. Westchester Vipers Bantam team is 2-0 so far at Tier II 14 and under USA Hockey Nationals in Beautiful Downtown Buffalo NY…. So some hockey is still alive for some !!!

See y’all at the girls lacrosse blog.

    Go Stepinac JV!!! :)

  11. Niedermeyer...

whats funny is…donahue isnt even a top 10 player in rockland county yet he may be player of the year in westchester haha

  12. Daniel Kiernan

None of the other winter sport writers have announced their all-star teams yet. What’s been published is all-section, which hockey doesn’t have. Hockey’s got all-league and all-state, which I published weeks ago.

  13. The Real Deal w/ Bill McNeil

Yeah, but the worst player on Westchesters own Stepinac JV is better than every Rockland player that ever played!!!!! :)

  14. Big Whistle

Thankfully, this blog goes away soon. Cant end soon enough.

  15. Lots of names and numbers early

Hey Chadwick, don’t see anyone forcing you to log on….

  16. donahue

Donahue is definitely one of the best ten players in the section. And he definitely deserves most valuable. If your saying he isnt the best, thats one thing, but he deserves Most Valuable Player because without him Rye wouldnt have gone as far as they did.

  17. The Real Deal w/ Bill McNeil

I say the Mamaroneck Parents in the “Mamaroneck Parents only” section at the Hommocks should get the MVP. Most Valuable Parents. Or should it be Most Vain Parents. :)
You stay classy Mamaroneck….just pulling your chain.

  18. omg

  19. The Real Deal w/ Bill McNeil

I WOULD LIKE TO APOLOGIZE TO EVERYONE ON THE BLOG WHO HAD TO SUFFER THROUGH ALL OF MY MINDLESS BABBLE. I WILL ADMIT THAT I KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT HOCKEY AND VERY LITTLE ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE. AGAIN, I AM EXTREMELY SORRY TO ANYONE WHO I MAY HAVE OFFENDED BUT AS YOU SEE, I AM MENTALLYAND EMOTIONALLY UNSTABLE AND THEREFORE CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR MY SENSELESS AND POINTLESS REMARKS.

  20. The Real Deal w/ Bill McNeil

wow, looks like someone is trying to steal identity here. What a genius. So funny…. nice work…you really are a funny funny person….hhahaha

  21. please

Please end the blog!!! It is painful, there is no hcokey to talk about. I will see everyone next year.

  22. Hockey Fan

Gimme me a break…....Matt Donahue MVP….What a joke….League 2….That’s all I have to say! Remember,,,..... Ossining should of beaten Rye and then No one would of cared about Rye… MW showed how good rye and Donahue were!

  23. JV MAN

Should have beaten…BUT THEY DIDNT you loser.

  24. HockeyFan

Believe me ….there are two to three individuals who were more valuable to their team. Donahue is good but definitely not MVP material.

  25. Section1Fan

Congrat’s to Cody King from Iona Prep. Just saw this on the CHSHL web-site. Not only is he a very good Hockey player, looks like he’s a great student also. Great accomplishment!

The following student-athletes were chosen as the 2006-07
winners of the CHSHL Scholar Athlete award.

A Division- Cody King, Iona Prep Junior

B Division- Jonathan Longo, St. Peter’s Senior

  26. Brewster#1Fan

Congrat’s to C.King! Brewster missed you this season..

  27. Can't bear to see it end

Didn’t want a day to go by without a hockey post to the blog-GO RANGERS!

  28. blog

the boys lacrosse blog is terrible! there is like 1 post per entry and the guys make a new thing like every hour

  29. Goalie, going, gone

I read in today’s Journal News that Tom Natoli went 3 for 4 and had a three run homer for the Suffern Varsity baseball team yesterday beating Arlington HS 6-5.

This is as Hockey related as I can get today.

  30. suffern

who is it that said he wasn’t any good at baseball and couldn’t even make the suffern team??? and wynne had 14 saves for suffern lacrosse beat nyack 10-2
