Local sports editor Joe Lombardi and I recorded our first podcast of the season today. You can listen to it by clicking here:

We talked about the different paths of last year’s state final four teams, Suffern and Rye; Rye Town/Harrison’s emergence; Rye Country Day’s interesting week; and three big holiday tournaments after Christmas.
And you can also see me give my player and team of the week tomorrow on RNN’s NewsCenter Now, which is broadcast between 5-7 p.m. It will also be online, and I will post that link when it becomes available. That’s right, an early Christmas and late Chanukah present (for my mom, anyway)—you can read, see and hear me!
I will be at Suffern-Pelham tonight, and I will be posting period-by-period updates above the comments section. After seeing last night’s North-RTH game (“here’s my story”:http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071211/SPORTS02/712110381/1114) it makes me appreciate Suffern and Pelham even more.
The Rams were 13-1 in League 1 last year, and this year other teams are playing their back-up goalies against them. And that’s nothing against North. It seems almost every other program has similar ups and downs, which is the nature of high school sports. But Suffern and Pelham are in the mix every single year. Incredible.
First period: I might not believe it if I wasn’t here. Pelham is leading 2-0 and outshooting Suffern 13-2. Andrew Emerson and Victor Dzenis have the goals, both assisted my Marc Flory.
Second period: Everything is back to normal in Suffern-land. The Mounties outshot Pelham 22-4 and lead 3-2. Zac Hiller has a goal and two assists, all in the last five minutes. The first two goals, from Hiller and Salt, were on the power play. Kevin Norwin’s wrister through traffic with 1:02 left gave Suffern the lead.
Final: Suffern added two more (Matt Ruthberg and Hiller unassisted) to win 5-2. Hiller finished with two goals and two assists, and the Mounties were 3 for 4 on the power play. Great start by the Pelicans, even bigger response by Suffern.

no question. Suffern every year and Pelham too. Many people and fans do not realize or appreciate how good these programs are. Congrats to those two programs
Both are very good programs. Pelham has probably lost 30 players to Prep Schools or Catholic schools over the past 5 years yet find a way to be competitive and stay in league 1 every year. Quite an accomplishment by their coach and youth organization.
RCDS has nothing again. Its real weak again
Great podcast listen..
Last year the Section X website webcast the CN playoff game up north. The JN should get with this technology too.
hey harold,
you forgot to mentions suffern’s holiday tournament
Fri Dec 28/07 4:00pm
Campus Center Ice Arena
Suffern v. Canton
Sat Dec 29/07 TBA
Campus Center Ice Arena
Suffern v. Oswego/Lancaster
touranments,
Thanks for listening. I should have said “local holiday tournaments.”
That’s going to be a great tournament though. Canton was a state semifinalist and Lancaster was Section 6 runner-up last year.
Travel team,
Interesting idea. I’ll ask around.
Suffern probably could have been State Champ twice this decade had it not been for losing kids to Prep Schools and Juniors. John Foster and the Daniels Twins come to mind immediately.
Hats Off to Both,
30 players to Prep Schools or Catholic schools, I don’t think so!
Mamaroneck plays defending D2 state champion Monroe Woodbury in the opening round of their christmas tournament on December 26th at 7:00 pm. I am not sure if MW is great anymore, but it should be a real close game.
cant wait for a great game tonight at the hutch. i see suffern coming away with their 6th win of the season. final score 4-1 suffern.
Tiger Paws
Monroe Woodbury lost their 2 best forwards & #1 defensemen to juniors this year. They are still a solid team but no where near last years team. Playing them this year losses some of its punch
and, stop the press…YORKTOWN and STEPIANAC ARE THE OTHER TOURNAMENT TEAMS….right after you play guilderland and shaker….pathetic
tournaments, who are you? who do you root for? Your lame attempt to mock the best westchester hockey team over the last 30 years is pathetic. The only team that might play more powerful teams is Suffern. You might even be a Mamaroneck resident, upset that you never got playing time huh? or a parent? Sorry, things in life did not work out for you obviously.
suffern fan…you know..that team that plays real competitions in tournaments…only Monroe Woodbury counts
The toughest tournament any team is entering is Rye over christmas break. They are going up to Rome, NY to play in a 4 team tournament with Rye, Sweet Home, RFA, and Queensbury, all finished last year in the top 10 in the state. Should be a great challenge for them.
*On a side note by toughest, I meant toughest being a DII tournament
Typical Suffern blah blah blah.
Hey guess what, Mamaroneck annointed themselves as having the #1 jerseys in the state!!!! Since Suffern gets to annoint themselves as the #1 team in the state, I figure other teams can make stuff up as well. I hear Pelham has the #1 water bottles in NY state, they really keep water cold!!! I hear White Plains annointed themselves as having the #1 outdoor rink in the state!!!!! Also Iona prep annointed themselves as the #1 Catholic school on Mars. I hear Carmel annointed themselves as the #1 high school team in all of Iraq.
My point being…that just because you annoint yourself as #1…does NOT make it true.
Harold, take it one step further and have a live broadcast of the final 4 and championship game aired on that local channel of yours. Ratings would be great. Should do it for every sport too.
Can you imagine???
AFTER 1 PERIOD PELHAM 2 SUFFERN 0 , shots 13-2 Pelham
hahaha suffern….looks like you may be #1 in the state, but you dont stand a chance vs. pelhams #1 water bottles. ( see 3 posts above if your confused).
Ojeda crushes someone…wakes up Suffern
Suffern scored 3 goals in the last 3 min
3-2 after 2
Harold, How about an update from the Pelham-Suffern game?
I knew Suffern could come back
Suffern does have a chance against pelhams #1 water bottles
I hope you people are getting the picture that suffern is very beatable, I just don’t understand how you can think otherwise, mamaroneck compeletlely outplayed them and outshot them, and the majority of the times they scored were just scrums in front of the net (garbage goals), while mamaroneck’s goals were nice plays, suffern might win this game but they’re definetely not winning the section
The Lilliputions from Pelham are giving the #1 team in the state a hard time???? OMG say it aint so. Actually it doesnt surprise me, Suffern=overrated. Actually they are #1 team in Nigeria as well I heard…self annointed but still #1 in Nigeria. Maybe that big bad competition upstate was not that great seeing that Mamk and Pelham are giving Suffern better competition.
Don’t really care who wins…Pelham looks very refreshed with those sweet Water bottles which are #1 in the state. But I hear Glens Falls is coming out with some nice water bottles that just might challenge Pelham for best water bottles in the country.
and they can forget about states
suffern needs to prepare for everygame, if they do then theyre unbeatable. they must realize that because they are the best, and have been for decades, that everyone wants them, everyone circles them on their schedules…suffern cant just walz in because throwaway games to them are the biggest/most important games of the year to their opponents
3rd Period baby…time for Eddy Witz to weave some of his majic. The man is a wizard I tell you. I predict 5-4 Pelham wins in OT. WItz is the man….the myth …. the legend. I writing him in for my vote for President!!! Witz owns Suffern. Go Killer Pelicans!!!!!
that loss stings huh?
anyone know the pelham score??
Do you guys hear yourselves? Suffern’s offense is not even firing on all cylinders and they’re still beating your team’s “A” games. If you think anyone but Suffern is going to win Section 1, you’re delusional. Don’t let jealousy cloud your brains people. Enjoy the hockey games folks but don’t lose touch with reality!
Hey its just that…
It must be hard when you claim to be the best team in Zimbabwe my friend. I really feel for ya. Guess what, varsity only plays 24 games, all the teams play hard every game… not just for your precious Mounties. You don’t think teams want to beat the heck out of Mamaroneck and Pelham and Clarkstown North? (oh and by the way in the last 6 years who won more league 1 championships suffern or north? Oh thats what I thought brutha, if Suffern was so great why have they not won the majority of the league 1 championships?)
leads 5-2 with about 6 min left
goals by hiller, salt, norwin, ruthberg, hiller
salt is in the box for 7.5 min on a “tap from behind” the kid apparently didnt even fall…schelling just laughed at the absurdity
Any updates on the score?? I am on pins and needles.
who cares about league championships…its like winning the AL East but not the world series…winning the league is important for seeding..doesnt matter, sufferns wont the section championships, much harder, much more clutch, because when it counts, suffern comes to play
They just win almost all the SECTION FINALS,you can have the league championships.
What was that, oh another CN choke in the final
0-6 and only going to get worse, think before you write.
Clarkstown (wah suffern) fan: What’s CN record this year? Yeah…I thought so!
North couldnt beat themselves in an empty net scrimmage…let alone score
north has more losses than goals for
Suffern wins 5-2
stupid water bottles…..guess they really arent all that cold
Let the whining begin…the refs must have given Suffern the game on orders from the evil two-headed monster of Schelling and Orlando. Surely it couldn’t have been the skill and hard work of the Suffern hockey players. No, it must be a conspiracy.
Old School Mountie,
Why are you acting like a LOSER! It must of been a great game to watch. Give both teams a break. Pelham started off very well but Suffern came back like the Champs they are.
This game definitely shows that there are a few teams out there that Suffern has to watch out for. Suffern is playing well but not at the level they played at last year. But it’s early and I’m sure that they will get tougher as the season goes on!
Did Suffern skate more than 9 kids tonight? While the rest of the team sat at the snack bar?
whoever sed mamk has the best jerseys in this area have not seen white plains black road jerseys. absolutely sick.
before the complaining begins (lets hope it doesnt) let me save all of you the trouble of typing out your own ideas…. angry parent ad libs
My son plays at (school) and they are the best team. They were robbed by (excuse) and they are really one of the best teams because (random reason that probably doesn’t apply to hockey at all) and they have a good chance at winning (some achievement your child’s team will most likely not accomplish) and then he will go on to play at (D1 college name).
there you go parents, I just saved you the trouble of ever having to fill out your own post, just insert your choices in the blanks.
hey is it just me or did anyone else get there hopes up when they heard that suffern was losing after 1?
why do you people care how many kids suffern plays? your only embaresing yourselves more. hey mamaroneck, if you so big on suffern playing their 9 players then howd you lose? if your playing a whole team and sufferns playing 9 players then they should be tired and you should be dominating the third period. but your not. so stop being a baby and let suffern play whoever they want. maybe you should try it. its working for suffern. see you at sporto next month. we wil be playing those same 9 kids. think you can beat them then? doubt it
Connor is going to single handedly beat suffern next time around, after their last couple of displays, Suffern better watch out
Section 1 has good teams in it. This is not going to be a cakewalk to the section championship and beyond. Players, parents and fans should enjoy this exciting hockey season and these early games only serve to set up great games later this winter. I have to admit, 2-0 Pelham after one had me worried…just a little.
That was a disappointing game from the perspective of a Pelham fan. Pelham dominated the 1st period and then Suffern turned it on 2nd and 3rd. The hit from behind wasn’t viscous, more of an accident. I really don’t know what else to say, Suffern’s power play and penalty kill are both excellent.
pelham came out in the first period like gangbusters skating really hard all over the place.. it was only a matter of time until suffern took over the game. you cannot skate and forecheck with that intensity unless you run 4 lines. have to give pelham credit though, they came out looking to win and looked pretty good. but to be honest suffern is just a better team and it showed in the 2nd and 3rd period. pelham was completely out-matched. they did make the begining of the game interested with a lot of suffern fans shaking their heads down 2-0 after 1. but again it all changed in the second and third periods.. sorry everybody,, yes another relatively easy win..
what do you think about last night’s game with rt/h vs north? i saw the article but you really couldn’t add any bias into it and i’d like to hear your thoughts.
north is done, theres some bias for u
Suffern is like the NE Patriots they are the hunted every game. They are the ones every team (hunters)wants to knock off to gain recognition. They find a way—so far
I was at the game and am from neither school. I can honestly say that while Suffern had more skilled players I was a bit disapopointed in them. I really thought they were better. #7 (Salt) never comes off the ice. #6 (Ojeda)plays “D” then goes right up to “F” for a shift. That might work against teams without much depth but I’ve got to believe it will catch up to them eventually. Yesa, they were better than Pelham but I certainly don’t think they looked unbeatable. Pelham played well.
its worked for the last 2 years to get to the state final 4
Suffern is a great team and they did what they had to do tonight. Pelham is a smart and hardworking group, but no depth and their goalie took them out of it in the third. For Suffern solid comeback andon to the next game. Pelham? well you are a D 2 team and you played well enough thisyear at 7-2? to take theD2 crown
Justice almost served. Mamaroneck will beat Suffern next time because we have more depth than pelham has and we are bigger than them to. We will be back no question If Pelham got 24 shots Mamaroneck will get 35
mammaroneck is garbage!
you got 36 saturday and lost
Any thoughts on Scarsdale jumping all over Brewster? Possibly a contender in league two with white plains?
Well played game for both teams
Suffern with 3 PP goals and Pelham with 1.
Pelham did run out of gas but did play great in the first period. Suffern deserved to win they played with good intensity in that 2nd period popping for three.
Third period was really uneventful play-wise scoring chances were poor for both sides. Last Suffern goal was bad but would not really effect the final outcome.
The rematch will be interesting to watch.
Suffern is going to have games like last night because everyone will be gunning for the top dawg. Everyone will get up for the game against the Mounties. I watch the Mounties against Mamaroneck and I went last night. I like Pelham better than Mamaroneck they play cleaner and they are small but the hustle and give the effort. I know they played Mamaroneck tightly as well. Pelham may not beat Suffern but they could beat everyone else.
This kid knocks the net off the pegs FAR too much. 3 or 4 times in one game? I rarely see it come off at all. He also wears pads that make him practically as large as the goal. He only seems good because he covers the puck well and he cheats.
WOW.. you abvioulsy don’t know much about hockey or are blind.. i haven’t seen the net come off once because of him this year. and as far as his pads go, there isn’t anything different about his pads than anyone elses. he is a big kid.. if suffern isn’t really that good and natoli isn’t really that good either why can’t anybody beat them???
Can we please NOT bash kids on here?
Look I’m a Mamaroneck fan but I have to admit that Natoli is an ALL State Goalie. He’s awesome. How can anyone argue?. He keeps his team in the game. The better teams will even out shoot Suffern but he is the difference. We all wish we could have a goalie like him.
he is one of this areas best shot at playing D1.. a year of prep or junior A after hs and he just might make it.
The net came off 3 or 4 times for Suffern in the 1st and third periods. It has come off once for any other team Pelham has played this year.
Suffern scored one goal with a broken stick. That is against the rules. When the puck gets stuck on top of the net, it is supposed to be blown dead, new rule. Thats how they scored another of their goals. THAT is the refs fault. I thought all this suffern ref stuff was BS, but after watching it, I can confirm it.
Does anyone know what his plans are for next year?
i have no idea what you are talking about.. broken stick? puck on top of the net? natolie knocking off net? what game were you watching? you are insane!!!
either a year at prep or junior A
I doubt that Suffern gets the calls at the Ice Hutch vs. Pelham. If anything, it would go the other way. Pelham’s assisant coach runs the ref group that does the Pelham home games. How this is allowed, I will never know.
e/t/b is the best team in league 3 and will make alotof noise in the playoffs
there was nothing wrong with the refs last night.. only bad call was against suffern, (the hit from behind)
League 3 is like house league hockey. Let’s keep it real here.
Didn’t ETB give up double digit goals in a league 3 loss last week? Offense is great to watch, but come playoffs, its D and goaltending that carry the day. You need to look no further than last year’s Sectional champs. They had Westchester’s (Donohue) and Rockland’s (Natoli) respective “Players of the Year” in net. Goalie is by far the most important player on the ice, especilly in a HS hockey playoff game vs. League 1 or strong League 2 teams. Shore up the space between the pipes and ETB will be a tough out in the playoffs.
Suffern comes away with 2 big W’s at ‘Hostile’ rinks, and you think you will beat them at Sport O Rama later in the season. Past 2 years they have had slow (for them) Decembers, then rolled. Only this year they have weathered the slight storm. DJ is unbeatable.
people are crazy!!! they come on here saying how suffern is going to lose to either pelham or mamaroneck etc. suffern ends up beating both (at the others rink) pretty easily, (don’t get me wrong they were good games but the object of the game is to get the puck in the other teams net, not skate better, have more shots, play more kids etc). then they comment after the game that suffern isn’t really that good, they weren’t impressed etc. what were you expecting? suffern to come out and win 10-0? if that was the case why would you predict them to lose? and if they aren’t that good why did your team lose? and don’t give me the refs, please!! Is suffern a perfect team right now? no. but are they far superior to any team around here at this point? yes. will they lose a game or 2 this year? probably
Hey it doesnt matter who plays if a full team can not beat sufferns two lin es…well to bad…go sit in the corner and cry….dont hate just becaause your be 20 kids cant beat or make sufferns ten players tired. As a player that is schellings way of coaching snd the top ten guys are in great shape…and to this point unbeatablw…..and RCDS might as well play in a pee-wee travel league for a prep school with their own rink its just god awful hockey…if the played some legit prep schools like cateburry, cushing academy, tabor academy…..thats just a few to name
Pelham plays 2 lines and 4 D, no complaints by the Pelham people.
Mamaroneck plays 2 lines and 4 D, no complaints by Mamaroneck people….we just need to stay out of the box to have a chance.
last night suffern played 11 forwards and 5 d.. does that add up to 9? so to mamaroneck fans you are right they only played 10 (not 9 but close enough)you should feel proud that they gave you a little more respect then they did pelham
IT IS SUFFERN VS. THE WORLD!! I LOVE IT!!! BUT REMEMBER THE ONLY THING THAT REALLY MATTERS IS WINNING THE SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE END OF FEBRUARY.
RTH has an interesting week coming up- they play Mahopac, Mamaroneck and Suffern for their next three games. Should be a good indicator.
Not a Suffern partisan but..
Looking and rooting for Suffern to win states. Their best chance is this year. I actually hope it is easy for them.
The stars are aligned for them and this will bring respect to the section.
I’m not surprised that they may find themselves losing a period here-or-there. The best team are often out-shot…sometimes this is due to adrenaline rush from the other team and sometimes this is due to selective shooting from the better team..I didn’t see the IP – St Marys game but I envision that is how it went.
Scan any NHL boxscore and you’ll see way too often that the winning team was outshot..or loses 2 out of the 3 periods.
finally someone with a little sense!!!
biggest fan,
As the season goes on do you really think tht the competition is not going to cover Conner at the red line. Conner’s good but unless he hangs at the Red, he willn’t score.
Harold – just got a chance to listen to the podcast over lunch….nice job !! Good to see the extra exposure for hockey.
Are you going to continue the team by team previews into League 4 ? (If nothing else it will give all the Suffern bashers / Suffern defenders a chance to take a rest
Keep up the good work and enjoy that Florida trip.
Tiger Paws,
You have obvious problems with reading comprehension. Please stop embarrassing yourself. The quote that you’ve been going off about was a kid saying that he wanted to prove his team was the top team in the state. He didn’t declare that they were officially ranked number one. It’s not outlandish to say that you want to prove your team is the best. That’s what everyone’s trying to do. Stop getting hysterical about it. You’re being more irrational than the typical hockey blog commenter, which is saying a lot. Take it down a notch.
Re- Suffern VS the World- People realize that Suffern has a very good team (OK- the best team in the section), but they resent the Suffern blog writers who get incredibly obnoxious about it.
Also- if Suffern has the best feeder system and talent way beyond this year, why would they possibly be only playing 9 deep. I did see above that they played 11F and 5D in a recent game, but the majority of the blogs counter that.
suffern usually only plays 2-3 lines everyyear, and then the good, deep roster gets their chance as juniors and seniors
suffern plays a short bench, always has and probably will until schelling is gone. they are not much different than most teams around here. I really think the anti suffern clan need to come up with something better then they only play 9 or 10 kids. it is very sad how jealous many of you are.. will find anything to put suffern down, even if it is ridiculous..
refs
December 12th, 2007 at 10:42 am
there was nothing wrong with the refs last night.. only bad call was against suffern, (the hit from behind)
Did you think that was from the front?
or the side?
yes it was directly from behind flattening the player on the ice
it wasnt at all an attempt to even hit the player, nor ‘flatten him’, i dont even think he even fell, the player was trying to step in front of the shooter to block a shot and grazed his back and he moved slightly, certainly not worthy of 9 min in the box
did you see the hit? was it this terrible dangerous crushing hit from behind? NO.. it almost looked accidental, he barely even knocked him down. if that is what you call flattening someone you obviously haven’t watched many hockey games. I also don’t really think it was a bad call, just a little weak. no reason for a 10 minute on that hit. the ref had all the discretion to make another call, roughing, interfence, or even no call at all. and yes he was turning towards the hit when it happened.. again questionable not absolutely BAD.. i can’t wait until ojeda flattens one of your players, they you will understand what flattening means..
fhparent.. you must be used to watching girls hockey if you think that the kid was flattened!!! i don’t think anybody is complaining about the call just making mention of it. maybe that was your kid who got hit.. i think it was more that he can’t skate very well than a dirty (which is what a hit from behind is most of the time) flattening hit!!
e/t/b took Mamaroneck to the third period tie 2-2 and thats a league 1 team and now they have more scoring if it wasnt for a puck that was kicked in and a offsides that was not called and lead to a goal the game might have gone the other way.
YOU CANT WIN WITHOUT GOALTENDING PERIOD
who cares you lost
just like pelham did last night, it doesnt matter how close you come when you catch a power off guard, once they wake up, all that matters is the final score
hahaha…..ALMOST doesnt count….but deffinately use that for motivation! keep up th good work maybe one day they will say haveing 3 schools combine to make one team is absolutley ridiculous, it doesnt matter how bad they are…go to a different high school of you want to play high school hockey…or just play juniors (if you can)
fhparent One other bad call last night the 1st goal was scored with a broken stick, dont matter a call is a call, gotta live with them
the first goal was assisted on a splintered stick, but i dont think the player realized it, it is to their own disadvantage, and it happened when a pelham player viciously, and un called, slashed him—-more vicious than the ‘hit’ from behind
i still don’t know where this broken stick came from.. hillers stick was broken? i think people are seeing things…did it break on the shot or did he use a stick that was broken?
#7 was slashed on the play that i guess cracked the stick a little, but not enough to realize, he set up #21 for the goal
but i agree- if he knew hed have dropped it, broken sticks arent helpful, they are a disadvantage to yourself, and the slash should have been called
Tired tired about hearing about the triple or Quad team school that has done absolutley nothing yet
Hey Charlie Everywhere,
When Mahopac played Suffern at SOR, the announcer introduced his team as “the #1 team in the state”. Nobody is fighting with a blogger, it is Suffern and or their Dj that Self annointed themselves as the #1 team in the state. That is why people are joking about pelham having the #1 water bottles in the state. It is all kinda funny. The fact that a team claims something over a PA system that is not true (at least at the time there were no rankings yet) is irresponsible and just a lie.
Didnt ETB lose to Pawling like 9-8? How can anyone brag about that program? Pawling is like the size of Soloman Schecter and they ripped you for 9 goals.
I think this blog is the dumbest thing ever..all it is doing is giving suffern a bad name..every comment is blamed on suffern…just accept that they beat your team and try to beat them next time..that most likely wont occur but your allowed to give it a try…and im not a suffern parent for all the next comments that are going to say “oh look at suffern saying no one can beat them”...the only thing that matters is who represents section 1 in regionals and Suffern has the best chance so just accept that.
frosted flakes contains anthrax
sufferns beaten top teams in the state, so they could very well be the best team in state right now
pelhams waterbottles havent beaten anyone elses waterbottles in competition, therefore it is an illegitimate claim
Its anyone’s title..suffern just looks like the favorite as of now
Great tunes but he has made some outrageous intros to the Tigers at the Tigers home games. Some of the things he say is quite embarrassing.
The reason the kid didn’t fall from the hit from behind is because the kid was their best skater. Most other kids in high school hockey would’ve hit the ice pretty hard.
suffern always has played 9-12 players . the players that play now sat as freshman. suffern coach probaly believs in freshman paying dues then if they are good enough they start to play as sophmores.
But he hits the back of the net quite often
There is a reason Suffern plays 9 skaters. It is because it gives them their best chance to win. They obviously feel that those 9 are better tired than the rest of the team is fresh. The rest of Suffern might as well bring their chess boards. Why does Suffern not make a JV team so the Sophomores can do something better with their time. Mamaronecks 9th and 10th graders all play JV (some talented sophs can make varsity), their 7th and 8th graders play modified…this way their mod kids play against older kids since all the other mod teams can have 9th graders on modified, and their 9th graders play better competition rather than waste their time scoring 10 goals in a modified game.
They had so many kids that there was a big group off to the side not even on the bench
They had so many kids that a large group was off to the side not even on the bench.
Who cares how many kids or lines they run. If they want to play 5 kids to win then they can do that. Most teams play 2 to 3 maybe at the most. As far as number of kids on the team that dont play, most teams have that. It keeps kids in the program and playing hockey rather than ending their athletic experience.
Frosted Flakes,
I wasn’t aware that the DJ made that claim, but if you’ve seen or heard that DJ, I find it hard to believe you take him seriously. You honestly think he’s an official spokesman of Suffern’s program? He’s a goof they hired to play music at the games. He insists on yelling nonsense into that microphone and making himself the center of attention every now and then, but he’s got nothing to do with anything. How can you go off on the Suffern players for something a DJ said?
Who is the best foward and defenseman from each grade?
Would you rather be a non-playing member of a championship team or a regular player on a losing team?
great question!!! i guess the answer would depend on how good you are or how good you think you are..
“The net came off 3 or 4 times for Suffern in the 1st and third periods. It has come off once for any other team Pelham has played this year.”
The video shows the net came off 3 times. Only one time did Natoli even come in contact with it and it didn’t look to be intentional. Once a Pelham player knocked it off and the faceoff was outside the zone, the other time a Pelham player looked like he was pushed into the net and the faceoff was in the zone.
puck54,
From what i have seen this season in sec 1, the best forward and D in each grade are as follows,
Senior: F- Conner(Mam) D-Conklin(Suff)
Junior: F- Hiller(Suff)or Perelle(Mahopac) D- Hagan(Mam)
I know ppl say hagan isnt that good but he did rack up 30 pts last yr as a soph and i dont know any other better juniors. As for sophomores, i know 4 that play from reading the newspaper: F: Katsuka(Rye), Hagan(ETB), Mastrocola(Mahopac) D:Norwin(Suff)...dont know how good any of them are. Does anyone know the best soph. F and D?
soph D has to go to norwin and for seniot D i would go with ojeda
Ojeda is the hardest hitter. I saw him knock some kid silly in the Mahopac Playoff game last year. Must have made for a rough bus ride home to Mahopac.
Sean Hagan has the hardest slapshot no doubt.
Pelham did not film the Suffern game
Victor Dzenis is an excellent sophomore D-Man. I think he has to be one of the best.
Except the first 17 minutes wound up in the Nixon Library
bigfan,
ojeda is a tremendous defenseman and a great hitter but i thought he was playing mostly forward so far. i think him and conklin are both great and each excel in different ways. as a whole suffern has a tremendous group of defenseman.
I like Hiller (Suffern) than Perelle (mahopac)...and i agree one hundred percent Hagan has the hardest shot..he seems to use it at every instance and i cant wait to be there when he scores from his own blue line lol
Sean Hagan is a good boy and very good at hockey. We are so proud of him, LOVE YA SEANIE
Victor Dzenis is an excellent sophomore D-Man. I think he has to be one of the best.
