Power rankings

As I mentioned before, this one was the toughest, but that’s why they pay me the big bucks (right). Pelham beats RT/H twice, RT/H beats Rye twice, and Rye just beat Pelham. Well by now you know what I did with that—there’s a reason these come out every week, and I decided to reward Rye for its latest win. The Garnets also just crushed Scarsdale, who beat Pelham recently. And really, it’s no fun to have the same three teams at the top for an entire season.
Here’s a similar one, but not exactly. Iona Prep and Fordham Prep both beat White Plains, and Stepinac won the season series against both the Gaels and the Rams. But you can’t put them all ahead of White Plains, can you?
So here are my power rankings. I decided to weigh the last month’s results much more heavily than the stuff from Nov/Dec. How does it look?
1. Suffern (17-0-2): Only undefeated team in the state.
2. Mamaroneck (19-2-1): Hosts Rye Town/Harrison tomorrow night.
3. White Plains (19-3): Won first league title in 12 years.
4. Stepinac (13-6-1): Faces Farrell in first round.
5. Rye (11-7-2): Makes debut after beating Pelham.
6. Pelham (12-7-1): Can certainly make it back tonight by beating Suffern.
7. Rye Country Day (8-7-4): Beat No. 1 team in Div II NE Prep rankings.
8. Rye Town/Harrison (10-6): Scored 18 goals Wednesday-Thursday.
9. Iona Prep (14-8-2): Starts playoffs Thursday against FP.
10. Fordham Prep (11-6-1): Just shows that our area goes 10 deep with quality teams.

Harold is a big joke
For those of us who care about section X.. I believe postdam tied Ogdensburg 0-0 last night. Ogdensburg is ranked around 44th (computer rankings) and are 3-14-1..don't know anything about who played etc.. but not a great performance coming into the home stretch.
http://www.northcountrysports.net/sxhockeyboys.htm
anything can happen, that's why they play the games on ice, and not on paper.
Unfortunately, I don't think we can put a ton of stock into that. The people up there were probably looking at scores from down here this past week and said the same thing about Monroe-Woodbury needing to go into OT to beat 1-17 Clarkstown North.
Plus the last thing section 1 wants to do is put their guard down and think Section 10 will be a cakewalk to Utica. Believe you me, it won't. I don't care how many 3-win teams Potsdam ties.
all true..
Who is the d-2 contender? Salmon River?
Salmon is it and they are playing well right now. I thought Pelham beat them in December?
If you click on the link which Postman has put up the d-1 and d-2 standings are posted for Sec 10. Looks like a few teams in the mix .
Is the Yorktown Scarsdale game on?
didn't pelham sweep rye town and rye get swept bye rye town?
On one of the other blog topics, everyone was discussing where CN's home playoff game will be in the first round this year (SOR or the mall). I was just looking at the standings and it looks like they very well might not have one. If they pass Mahopac in the standings (with a win against JJ or Pelham coupled with Mahopac losses to Pelham & Rye), they would host Mahopac in the quarters. Assuming that does not happen, they would need Sleepy Hollow/Irvington to make the playoffs in order to host them in the opening round (if Sleepy doesn't make it, CN gets a bye). Sleepy has 5 games left (Home against PR, Carmel, & Nyack and at NewRo and PR). They need to go at least 3-2 (or 2-1-2) in those 5 games to get in. That may be a tall order considering they only have one win that wasn't against someone at the bottom of league 4, and that was against Mt. Pleasant in the midst of their 1-7-1 tailspin. Two of thoir opponents (Carmel & Nyack) are the last place & second to last place teams in League 4, so those should be win-able, but they may have a hard time with NewRo & PR and may not be able to walk away from those three with the one win or two ties they would need to qualify.
If you weighed early season games less than recent games how are you holding the loss for RTH vs WP. That was the one bad loss. Other than that RTH lost to Suffern (4-2) last time Pelham, but beat Rye twice. Don't get it!
A loss is a loss….why does it matter if it was early or late in the season. WP beat both RTH & RYE this season. RTH couldn't beat them in both meetings last year either. END OF STORY!
stepinac plays fordham today at 5:15 (playland)...if stepinac wins, they clinch 2nd in the A (and clinch home ice for its series against farrell…that's why this series' schedule is still tbd)...if fordham wins or ties tonight, a farrell win versus fordham tomorrow night (10pm at the ice hutch) will most likely place farrell at #2 and stepinac at #3
if anyone is around the ice hutch tonight, molloy has a game at 8pm…chance to see the chshl's easily dominant B team that should be playing in the A this year (and will most likely play in A next year)
btw…nice performance by iona…only losing 2-1 at bergen catholic (heard dimario had a great game and that iona scored first)
another iona note
heard they are cancelling the bosco match-up over the weekend (king, mccabe and a few others have a school commitment over the weekend)
tippy,
Is Salmon River good this season? Rye went ALL the way up their last season in playoffs and beat them easily!
Stepinac is 13-6-1 overall
Hey "reality", what does last year have to do with anything?
Exactly my point! Same thing as the earlier season game has nothing to do with later season game!....lol lol lol
Don't recall seeing WP in Utica last year and don't think they'll be there this year either. Enjoy your league 2 championship.
To travel team from a couple of blogs ago, It is true that we named all the quality coaches already, maybe we have left out a couple like Zach Dargaty of Horace Greely, a long time hockey man and travel coach, and Ossinings Kevin Connolly a long, long time Ossining coach who has turned his team around.
You are correct to say if a school spends 25,000 on hockey they should find a good coach, but some hands are tied. If a teacher wants the job, some schools wont even bring in a hockey person to interview because it would just make them look dumb when the hockey guy blows away the teacher in an interview.
Suffern and Mammaranek are lucky to have Shelling, and Chaps working in the school. They would be great candidates to coach even if they werent teachers, kudos to the other schools that have the guts to hire someone not involved as a teacher…...when it is needed to go outside the school.
Most schools have a "equal or better policy" when it comes to hiring coaches, meaning- that they will only hire a teacher if they are of equal of better qualification than someone who is not a teacher, this probably explains why some of the high credential coaches mentioned can get away without being a teacher at the school.
Witz at Pelham.
I have a question for anyone from Rye, not regarding hockey, does garr teach, or does he just coach the football team?
Garr teaches social studies at Rye Middle School.
step /fordham score?
any suffern vs pelham predictions?
i guess ill go first
i say suffern 5-0
Suffern 3-1
what exactly are these rankings based on i think that you should look more at the wins some of the teams at the bottom have and WHY O WHY IS RCDS IN THE POWER RANKINGS THEIR 8-7 AND BARELY BEAT RTH LAST YEAR they were a leauge 2 team and RCDS clearly got worse this year
Chris McIndoe,
Nice article you deserve it. To the Suffern parent who wrote in the comment yawn after your article, it only shows again how they are completely self centered. We on the other hand can appreciate a great player wether it is a North or Suffern player. We have always congradulated Tommy Natoli for his play. Chris, good luck to you for the remainder of the year. You are a great goalie and do deserve some praise.
Linda Willows
Too bad suffern parents hide behind their screen names.
any updates on CN-RCDS????
Hey Linda, can you give us an update on how your kids are doing, and do you know what the current feel of the North team is right now and why they are doing so poorly even with a tremendously talanted goalkeeper? your husband is a great coach, does he still help coach the North team?
What a great article on Chris McIndoe – if anyone is deserving of it, it is him—it's about time!!! How disgustingly rude of that Suffern parent—he/she should save that "yawn" for next year when either (1) Suffern won't be nearly as good as this year or (2) his/her son's away at college, reality sets in and he/she realizes his/her son is not good enough to make the college team!
RCDS-9
CN- 0
step beats fordham 9 – 0
suffern/pekham updates
3-0 Suffern, 4 min left
Holy Cow….Can you guys see the roll Step is on.. 3 shutouts in 4 games and a DESTRUCTION of Fordham ( #10 powre ranked team in Westchester… really? ) today with a 9-0 score and that only 9 goals cause the coach didn't let them score anymore… Farrell is an unknown team because of the Junior/travel kids that may or may not play on a given night, so you never know what you are gong to get with them, but Stepinac should be the team to beat in the CHSHL playoffs…..thoughts.. comments… Mr. brick?..ionian? etc…
See the predictions 10 blogs up, I nailed it, Suffern 3 Pelham 1, for my next prediction, Clarkstown North will lose to a league 4 team if they don't get a bye in the playoffs.
Any chance on Rye gaining the #1 seed for the D2 playoffs?
stepinac smacks fordham 9-0 at fordham's traditional ice slot (5:15, playland, friday)..."just observing," just looked at the box score, only 1-0 after 1, and 4-0 after 2…looks like fordham just gave up in the 3rd…
imo, fordham has almost no talent…but the combination of iona struggling as of late (although i wouldn't call a 2-1 loss at bergen catholic a struggle) and iona-fordham being like yankees-mets, it will be a tight series…nevertheless, iona wins series 2-0
the stepinac-farrell situation is different…yes, stepinac has reagan, datino (7 points tonght including 4 goals) and is hot as of late…but farrell is known for stepping up down the stretch and in the playoffs (aka, everyone showing up)...to give some perspective, they just smacked st. edmund's tonight 14-3…imo, stepinac wins series 2-1 (each winning their home games)
the following is the final playoff sched.
series A, iona-fordham
game 1 – thurs, feb. 7, yonkers, 6pm
game 2 – fri, feb. 8, mt. vernon, 10pm
game 3 (if nec.) – sat, feb. 16, mt. vernon, 9:45pm
series B, stepinac-farrell
game 1 – thurs, feb. 7, yonkers, 8pm
game 2 – fri, feb. 8, coney island, 8:15pm
game 3 (if nec.) – sun, feb. 10, mt. vernon, 8pm
if anyone wants to see what farrell looks like, watch them tomorrow night in mt. vernon against fordham (10pm)
Doesn't help Fordham that they lost their best player
maybe i can't read anymore but can someone tell me where this "yawn" is..?? and from the people i speak to at suffern, they all know and understand how good a player mcindoe is..don't always believe what you read..
McIndoe is indeed a fine goaltender. It was a nice article and well deserved!
Really got to give Fordham alot of credit this year. They finish the season with a strong winning record with a very, very young team and 2 freshman goalies (unheard of in CHSHL)taking shots from King, Datino, Cambria, McCabe and the Staten Island boys. Next few years can only get better. Pretty impressive.
Who did Fordham lose? Did he get hurt and is he OK?

Doesn't help Fordham that they lost their best player
Go to Harold's "Weekly Podcast and Thursday Results" and then click on "Chris McIndoe Maintains Legacy" and you will see the article—at the bottom is the Suffern Parent's comment.
Fruit Fly…you are truly retarded….RCDS improved sooo much from last year
To Outsider, many of us Suffern parents have congratulated Chris and his parents in person, via e-mail etc. It is not helpful to take one obnoxious comment and then say "they" as if all parents from one school are all the same. You have good parents and not so good parents on every team. Also, there are plenty of CN parents on this blog who make comments (sometimes not so nice) without using their real name. Are you bashing them as well?
hey fruit fly, the rcds scheduale is ahrder than any public school sced
thats why they are 9-7-3
and they are so much better that last year
ur basing a game from last year!! are u stupid
rcds is better than any public school team maybe except 4 suffern and MMK
fordham's best player/leading goal scorer quit. Fordham is pathetic..first round knockout there they go
fordham's best player/leading goal scorer? Who's that?
Joseph Rausch #19 Goals 19 Assists 13
Ram Power, what happened is the player hurt? Hope Not!
Maybe his feelings are hurt.
First of all, you should have Rye Country Day 3rd after Mamaroneck and Iona Prep after Stepinac! These rankings are a joke, especially with Rye seeded higher then Pelham, RCDS, and Iona! RCDS plays a harder schedule the any team in the public school league, and Iona Prep plays a harder schedule then most of those teams too. These Rankings are an absolute joke, really sad.
4nI'll thingk about it.5e I compleatly agree with last post. eir
