According to the Section 1 site, the games at Brewster Ice Arena (Kennedy/PV-Fox Lane and Yorktown-Mahopac) have been cancelled. Someone else just posted that Byram Hills-E/T/B was cancelled, but I haven’t verified that yet. That leaves just two games, Scarsdale-Rye Town/Harrison and Suffern-Rye, both of which I previewed in the previous post.
If anyone has any scheduling updates or thoughts on tonight’s games, please post them here. Otherwise I’ll be back after Suffern-Rye.

Today’s Journal News indicated that the Rye/Suffern game is at 7:45, and the RTH/Scarsdale game is at 8:30 both at Playland, thought there was only one rink, and a half of sheet there?
Wednesday 7:45 PM at Playland is Rye’s standard home slot. ETB usually skates a practice afterwards, starting at 10 PM. Maybe ETB gave the ice back as they were scheduled to play a game elsewhere today. I guess its possible RTH picked up the slot and schedulaed a game starting at 10 PM. Sounds like a men’s league time slot, though.

Go Rye. Go Rye Town. All games at Brewster should be cancelled. The ice there is the WORST in the tri-state area. Neither rink has any lines left. Players and fans cannot even tell when the puck is on sides or off sides!!! Additionally, the parents/fans at Brewster are a disgrace.
however they have a great restaurant, with really good buffalo chicken wraps, always great after a hard fought game
any predictions for the suffern/rye game? i know there are predictions on the last post but we can make more here.
i think that suffern will get revenge on rye for almost beating them. i see suffern running away with this victory big 5-0
Rye keeps it close early. Suffern wins 4-1 is my guess. I will be in total shock if Rye can give them a tough game again.

im a suffern fan but i like rye and like eck and think he should be a legitimate contender for westchester mvp but, the officiating through the first two periods has been horrendous. rye has had 5 power plays to sufferns one. and suffern only got that one after rye kicked in their goal (yet somehow the goal was unassisted) and then they gave suffern a PP.
not a knock on rye, but a knock on the westchester officiating. in rockland, nothing was called in the mamaroneck-suffern game, but tonight, if suffern looks at rye the wrong way, theyre in the box

Suffern is not looking past anyone. They obviously knew Rye was a good team, and tied them earlier. Everyone keeps saying that Suffern looks sluggish when they don’t dominate opponents. Maybe you are just selling mamaroneck and rye short.
or maybe suffern just hasnt played well, yet are still winning, but when they go upstate, they play well, so imagine when they play well how close the games would be

Suffern can’t dominate Mamk or rye because mamk and rye are just as good as them. Nobody knows how good the upstate teams are because mamk and rye play different upstate teams, but guess what? mamk and Rye also played great against the upstate teams. I know it is hard for you to admit it, but Mamk and Rye are right there with suffern, . Hey, maybe suffern wins the section… but it would not be a shock if Mamaroneck beats Suffern. Nobody would be shocked, especially anyone who was at the last Mamk suffern game.

Now if you lived by Playland, in Rye , then it was possible to get to your house in 5 minutes and start Blogging.

Why would anyone need to lobby for Eck as a hockey player ? He was State MVP in Class B football, will be playing that sport in college, and has already basically decided where he is going, and doesn’t need any more accolades.
The fact that someone appreciates his talent immediately causes you to have a negative reaction and assume its a Rye parent ( in the middle of the 3rd period NO LESS ) ?
By that logic if anyone anywhere praises a players skills are we to assume its a parent ?

That kids name comes up all the time. I guess because its unusual for a very good player say in the top 25 of the Section, to be mentioned in the #1 spot. There are maybe 10-15 forwards in Section 1 as good or better. Which means he is very good, MVP no way. His team finished fourth in league 1. Mamaroneck has three losses all season and finished second in league 1. Conner is in the top 5 in socring? where is the Rye kid? I think if you must try to force an MVP to Rye, even though they are a fourth place team, I would go with Rogers as he makes things happen and is physical, be he is not an MVP candidate either

rye got off to a real slow start with their football state champs not having a preseason to get into hockey shape and find some chemistry, but once it all settled down, they have been the 3rd best team in the section. they have also played suffern better than anyone in the section. they scored just as many goals against suffern as mamaroneck has and gave up less.
i dont think it matters how many points you accumulate, because when push comes to shove, what matters is what you do when youre playing the best team. and rye, lead by eck, has dont better than mamaroneck lead by connor against suffern.
Great game altogether, Rye completely dominated the whole game except for a few short bursts by Suffern, Suffern did capatilize on their few chances. A couple of lucky bounces each way, a couple of missed penalties each way, overall the game reflected that two great teams battled out a great game.
Lets see how the playoffs go. Harold mentioned today that it is far too early to talk MVP. Eck was at his best at Football in November. Had very pedestrian sats in the regular season. Played so well in playoffs he was named player of the year for the state. Look for Jordan to make some big plays in the next few weeks. He was electric in the playoffs the last 2 seasons.
Rye is still not on the same level as Mamaroneck and Suffern! Don’t make me laugh. By the way Conner had 4 goals against Mamaroneck, so at least try and give him a little credit.
And also,Conner had a Great Empire games, how did Eck and rogers make out…..TIGERS rule…
Both teams should be proud of their seasons and a well played game tonite. Rye righted the ship after a slow start to their season. Suffern’s ship never went off course. Congrats to the Mounties on an undefeated league record. Finish off MW on Friday for an undefeated regular season. I hope the next time Rye sees Suffern is at the Aud parking lot in March.
Rye should not be even considered in a class with the top 4 league one teams, Its Suffern/Mamaroneck at the top, with RTH and Pelham on the doorstep, Rye is far away. BTW

Suffern and Rye played a tight game, only weakness in the game seemed to be the officiating. I dont want to take anything away from either team, but is there anybody that can do something about these officials? I would hate to see a playoff game blown by bad refs.

Suffern was called for a lot of bad penalties, not saying they were all bad calls, but some were.
Rye was also called for a “make up call” that allowed a very very strong suffern power play to score.
Rye’s first goal was obviously kicked in, i bet the players would admit it also.
It looked like on Suffern’s 3rd goal, a Rye player was being held behind the net, not sure if it would have changed anything, but was no call.
All around poor officiating, let it get a little out of hand at the very end, and i hope i dont see them again in the playoffs.

Why would someone be dumb enough to write under the name I used and say things against Rye? One top of that you clearly you have no clue what you are talking about as Rye is definately the third best team after Suffern and Mamaroneck right now and when it comes down to it, right now is when it matters, the playoffs are esentially the whole season. The 7-5 win by Rye against Pelham is a little taste of what will happen in the sectional finals.
How can the referree in the Suffern Rye game not know that this year they are playing by Federation Rules and not NCAA? On the kicked in goal by Eck the referree cited NCAA rules to Natoli. I can see a ref missing a call, but at least know what rules your playing by. Is that too much to ask?

Not a bad night for the Blue Devils and the Mounties, eh Harold? Btw, Rye played a very good game, Suffern has played better games than they did tonight, Rye has two really outstanding forwards, and a pretty solid DMan and their goalie played well BUT ONE penalty for the much more physical team, Rye? And Suffern gets what 4 or 5 mickey mouse interference penalties when the puck is where the contact was made? One penalty? Kicked in goals allowed because of rules that don’t apply to NYS HS hockey? Whatever. A win is a win, and Rye and Mamaroneck both played us very well. Kudos to both teams. I have a feeling Rye will go far in Div 2, and Mamaroneck or Suffern will do well in Div 1. I didn’t realize there was such a difference in refs from one county to the next though i read about it on this blog. Very poor control of game but luckily it didn’t detract from the very good HS hockey game. If anything, it showed the team’s heart by pulling out the game at the end knowing they had to watch the refs as well as a very good Rye team. Btw, the player wasn’t holding the other player on the third goal by Suffern, the two players face masks locked believe it or not! So as they were stuck, another Suffern player took the puck and slipped it by the goalie. And when people say that Mam or Suffern or Rye are better than one another, they are all very good teams who can beat each other on a given night. Congratulations to the Mounties who have had a great season to date, and whatever happens, they have done some special things as a team. At this point, Suffern has found, as they have the past few years, a way to win whether it’s pretty or ugly, it’s still a win. Go MOUNTIES.

I would say that ye Town is a solid team, but in the first game Rye was missing 4 of their best players, and in the second game Rye just didn’t have it. The team that lost to Rye Town is a completely diffrent team than the one who beat Pelhan badly and played Suffern the best of anyone in the section.

RCDS…we all know RCDS is a good team…saying they could beat ANY PS team is stretching it…i understand they fell apart against MMK a little bit …but if they were in section 1 they wud be in the top 3 teams i agree

dude….they have a very busy schedule playing high competition New England Prep Schools…they played a 3-1 game with an empty netter in a losing effort to Brunswick…a team who beat iona 8 or 9 to 1…and RCDS also beat Worester academy…a team that is BETTER than Brunswick and plays top D1 new england prep schools….i cant wait until RCDS plays some more public school teams and rape them

For Div. II, teams are simply seeded 1-8. As with Div. I, the quarterfinals will take place Wed. afternoon Feb. 27 at campus sites. The games will be held at the higher-seeded schools unless the travel time exceeds two hours, in which case the game will be held at a neutral site somewhere between the two schools.
#2 plays #7 and #3 plays #6. The winners will meet at the Icenter in Salem, NH in a semifinal matchup on Sat. March 1 at 11:00 am.
#1 plays #8 and #4 faces #5. The winners will meet at the Icenter in Salem, NH in semifinal action on Sat. March 1 at 1:15 pm.
The Div. II championship game will be held Sunday March 2at 12:30 pm, also in Salem, NH.
RTH will lose to a league 2 team
Nice game by Rye last night but I would stop short of crowning them the D 2 chanpions. They still need to win a few more games and keep in mind if Pelham is there at the end waiting Pelham is a big game team and will not be an easy game for Rye. The teams split this season and Pelham plays their best in big games. Rye is playing really well now but playoffs are a different game.
RCDS beat CN 9-0…MMK beat them 2-0…Suffern beat them 7-0 and 5-1…and in the Harvey game RCDS just played terrible its clear that they are a much better team
maybe public schools should schedule games with RDCS and stop telling them that theyre too busy…so that they can actually see how good a team is before they judge them on stats

Yeah, How about HARVEY 5 and RCDS 5. Looking at HARVEY’s Record, QUestion did Iona beat them 9 to 1. and Suffern beat Iona 5 to 2, and Suffern beat Mamaroneck twice and Mamaroneck killed RCDS.

Lets not dump on RCDS. They are a very young team that will be one of the top 4 teams in the area next year. This year, they don’t have the size or maturity to play with Mamo or Suffern. They would have had close, interesting games with Rye, RTH and Pelham this season. Sort of like they did vs. Iona. Rye and RTH would knock them around a bit, but RCDS’ skill would work to their advantage. I think RCDS is a lot like Pelham this year, except RCDS has stronger goaltending.
So, the 1 million $$ question has finally been answered. NO PLAYOFFS for Rye Country Day. Wow. So, lets see, They claim that this is one of their best teams? and they dont make the playoffs? gee I want to play hockey there. When was the last time they made the playoffs?

Congratulations to Suffern. Rye was a class act as they acknowledged Suffern seniors on their Senior night.
The game was not as close as it seemed. The first goal was a kick in and Eck had a great but lucky shot as Natoli was out of position.
Refs- good grief! Maybe there should be a meeting and to have them go over the official rules.

Although people are knocking the referees about last night’s game – my only concern was that they didn’t call enough penalties.
All of the Suffern penalties were legit. One Suffern player was acting like a goon the entire game and in one five second span last night he hooked one Rye player, hit him in the head from behind and then crosschecked him in the back. Very busy.
I am talking about the “kick in” goal. A no-no under the current rules. No one wants a game decided by the refs making a true mistake.
I agree that the penalties were legit. And there was some penalties missed as usual.

Good objective commnets on Suff Rye game. Good, clean, hard-hitting game. Rye has def been on the negative side of a over-reffed game so can feel frustration for Suff last nite. Great credit to Suff stopping rye on 4 extra man plays and then Suff used its skill to score on its 1 chance! If you were at the game you had to applaud Eck’s clean goal on Natoli as he really thread the needle. He HAD to as Natoli is so good. Despite the lop-sided penalties on Suff which had to be frustrating to Suff people both Suf and Rye crowds were good and both appreciated and respected the skill of both teams.

Suffern would beat the daylights out of RCDS. As a matter of fact if RCDS was a public school team I see them right below Rye in league 1. Behind Suffern, Mamaroneck, Pelham, Rye Town Harrison, and Rye. They would be about .500 team. Although they could not recruit which they do, which gives them a unreal advantage over every public school team, and they have a rink on campus too. So, the fact that RCDS is not as good as some of the public schools is a total embarrassment. Being able to recruit should make them easily better than all public schools by far, and they are not. Isnt RCDS season over? stop talking about a team whose season is over and lets talk Mamaroneck Suffern play off hockey
RCDS doesnt recruit much…and they dont accepct many kids unless they are smart…so you are wrong…and the fact that you think they would be behind all those teams is a complete joke…many teams that RCDS plays would kill all public school teams….ie. Worcester academy, who beat Andovver, a D1 prep school….who RCDS beat

I’m wondering what people think about a team that cancels a game 10 minutes before school is over even after confirming in the morning that they were going to play that game. Especially since their reasoning was that the weather was too cold last night (40 degrees) and the roads would be slippery. This is a team that has had cancelling problems in the past.
I believe that any team that cancels for no good reason, especially on Senior Night (which they were aware of), and has cancelled games at least four times in a season, should not be allowed to play in Sections 1 or 2.
I would like to hear what other people think of this and am certainly keeping my emotions in check for what I really think of that program and its coaches.

Postman… Although slacrosse said my comments were objective, which i think they were, you are dead on about their crowd. The kids below me were the most obnoxious group we have seen all year all over the state. And its not like they were funny and a good fanbase like Ithaca was last year, they were just crude and kind of, dare i say it, dumb. They cheered louder when our players were down, then when they scored. When one of our forwards was down on the ice, they kept cheering and laughing and yelling trash at the injured player. If i was a Rye parent, faculty member or team player, i would have been embarrassed by their fans, at least the students below us. Best fans ever? Ithaca at the States last year as they came en masse and were really funny, and clever. And the North fans of last year and the year before were pretty funny sometimes. Last night those fans were classless. Rye parents and fans know they weren’t treated that way at SOR, nor is anyone else. In fact, no other crowd in section one were such poor sports. Now the Rye HS is a different story. They did show class by announcing our seniors. Just the student fans were trash.

I agree that the SOR fans are a more hockey knowlegeable lot than some of the student body fans that stand on the bleachers opposite the visiting goal (1st ans 3rd period) at Playland on Wednesday nites. The Rye fans include a lot of varsity athletes that enjoy hockey more for the hitting than for the skill play. But there are many courteous, hockey knowledgeable Rye fans up in the Playland balcony. Hang up here with us and accept the teenage activity in the bleachers below for what it is, high schoolers letting off a little steam. I have watched and listened from above all season and have heard a lot less cursing than you hear in the club seats at the average NY Rangers game. The Rye parents do often sit among the kids to make them think twice about using improper language. It really is not that bad. And they do have a lot of passion for their team. That being said, I do not condone ANY nasty language directed at opposing fans, especially to young girls. Rye teenagers should know better than that.

Mamk beat RCDS 6-3 after playing like crap and spotting them a 3-1 lead. I was shocked at how bad a private school that recruits and has their own rink on campus is. Don’t wanna hear about crummy RCDS.
As for Suffern killing them, they would not. Suffern would beat them, but they would not kill them, Suffern has not killed anyone all year except North Rockland.
Rye fans (kids) are bad, and think they are pro fans. but they do not travel and go to road games. I would like to see them say that stuff at the Hommocks.

When I’ve sat near the Rye High kids in the past (not last night) I agree with your commnets about the over the top bad behavior of at least some of the kids. But it sounds like it went way over the top last night and you could def catch it sitting above “that section” of kids. This is inexcusable and embarrasing to Rye and something in no uncertain terms should be said to these kids from the administration. As “fanotgame” said there are plenty of courteus Rye fans (kids also beleive it or not) who are well behaved, and appreciate a good game and the skills of both teams and I hope you’ll be able to witness this at some point.
One can never condemn all fans for the behaviour of the idiots or morons, and I know some Rye fans and parents from my travel team, so yes, i hear you. It is just the only time all year or actually the last 3 years that i have seen an entire group stand up and cheer an injured player, not to mention the abuse the 9th and 10th grade girls had to put up with. That entire section was cheering in unison, as our player laid there on the ice. Worst sportsmanship witnessed yet, but yes, not the Rye parents or most of the Rye fans, just this group of losers who were clueless. I guess i had read about Rye fans at Playland and kind of forgot about it til yesterday. Hopefully someone will explain the sport to them as well as sportsmanship. Don’t recall anyone ever cheering an injury at the high school level until yesterday. And the genius who didn’t understand Whine and Cheese, well, enough said.

It seems clear to me that “SuffernDukeFan” is not judging all of Rye or RHS but just commenting on the behavior of a certain set. Even if its 1-5 kids, its still wrong and needs to be addressed. I’m sure that there are incidents with kids at many other schools but that is a problem that they must solve. Rye needs to take care of its own.

Why are you always looking to play public high school teams? If you are as good as you say why waste your time? Why do you need approval or recognition from the public high school fans and teams? Why are you even on this blog? most of the players at Rye Country day were former public school players, are they jealous of the public high teams and the league, schedule, section and state tournament and all the coverage interest and visibity it gets? I will say you have a beautiful school and school grounds. I also like the schools gym as it is totally modern. There is no way public teams refused to play Rcds. As a matter of fact not fiction Rcds ducks invites to division 1 team public high school tournaments. If they lose to any of those teams it ruins the fibs and fantasies they want everyone to believe about the team

Rye is better than RCDS any day of the week. And Pelham beat Rth twice so you are all messed up oh and White Plains beat Iona too
IP rulz- Interesting that you put Rye at #10. Their record since mid December (when their late arriving players all got their skating legs) is a strong 12-3-2. During that stretch they played 6 games against teams ranked in the top 10 in NYS. The three losses were against Suffern (by 1), RTH in OT (8 sec remaining) and Mamo by 3 in a flat effort. During that same span, Iona (against all but weak Chaminade and St. Edmunds)and Pelham hovered around .500 and Jay was well below .500. RTH has stumbled a bit down the stretch and WP hs played a weak schedule, losing to the few strong teams on their schedule. A case could be made for Rye being as high as 3 or 4.
