Suffern holds off Rye 3-2
-

- 14
Once again, Rye played with Suffern for a full game, but like every other team this season that gave the undefeated Mounties their best shot, Rye couldn’t come out with the all-important ‘W’. I think Suffern came out flat after playing such a big game against Mamaroneck and wrapping up the league title and No. 1 seed, but I don’t want to take anything away from Rye. The Garnets were fired up for senior night, and relished the chance to finish what they started in last month’s 2-2 tie.
Rye looked especially good in the second period, recording 17 shots and making some pretty big hits. But coach Jason Friesen said it best—the team made three mistakes, and Suffern made them pay each time. In the first period, they turned it over at the blue line after a faceoff and Zach Salt scored on a breakaway. In the second period, they took one penalty, and Suffern’s power play converted. And in the third period, they left Matt Shore alone behind the goal, and Shore stuffed the puck in for the winner.
Like I said in “my story,”:http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080214/SPORTS02/802140399/1110 another great job by goalie Tom Natoli (one goal went on off a skate, and the other was off the inside of the post on a perfect shot by Jordan Eck) and the 3-man rotation of defensemen Andrew Ojeda, Mike Conklin and Kevin Norwin (Greg McCarron was resting a shoulder injury), I talked to coach Rob Schelling and he said that McCarron could have played if it was a playoff game, but they didn’t want to take any chances last night. I wouldn’t expect McCarron against M-W tomorrow night either.
Someone with some time on their hands today should feel free to look this up, but I’m pretty sure that Mamaroneck’s Brian Conner (four) and Eck (three) are the only players to score multiple times against Natoli this year. And I think it was Eck’s skate that knocked in the first Rye goal, too. Update: Pelham’s Andrew Emerson has two goals against Natoli.
In last night’s other game, Rye Town/Harrison scored four third-period goals to defeat Scarsdale 5-2 and end the regular season on a positive note. Now the Titans have a week to prepare for White Plains (most likely) in what will be the most anticipated sectional quarterfinal in some time. Brett Novick had three goals and two assists and Cody McKinney scored the other two goals, so the two remaining pieces of that dominant first line are still getting it done.
Also in today’s paper is a story on neck guards tied to Richard Zednik’s freak injury, and “here are the new state rankings.”:http://www.newyorksportswriters.org/reference/current_polls_hockey_080214.shtml A one-goal loss on the road to the No. 1 team drops Mamaroneck from No. 4 to No. 12, while No. 7 Rye moves ahead of No. 8 Pelham. Interestingly, five of the top 12 in DI are from Sections 1 and 10, which face each other in the quarterfinals. The road appears a lot easier in DII—Kenmore East (6) is the only other team in the Top 12 from Sections 6, 9 and 10, which reside in Section 1’s half of the state bracket.

I just looked at the rankings and I am a bit shocked!!! How does Mamaroneck lose to the #1 team by a goal and drop 8 spots? I am a suffern fan so there is no Mamaroneck prejudice here.
i saw a lot of comments about rye not being as good as suffern and after watching both games it seems clear. the teams that play a more physical game against suffern are the ones that usually keep the games close.
Harold,
I agree Section 1 DII has a great shot to go deep in the state playoffs. That has been apparent for a while now. The brackets work out well for the D II section this year. And they get to host the regional final vs. Section 10. This should make for a spirited DII playoff with Rye (#7 in NYS), Pelham (#8 in NYS), Yorktown and Jay (both playing well of late) all having a shot at it.
I disagree with your assessment that Suffern was flat last nite. I just think Rye controlled the neutral zone play the whole game and Suffern had a hard time getting the puck in the Rye zone. The same think happened up at SOR. The shots were more even up at SOR bc Rye had to kill off a bunch of penaties up at SOR that they didn’t have to last nite. The difference in the game last nite was special teams. The teams tied 2-2 on 5-5 play. Suffern’s PK killed off 4 Rye PP while the Mounties scored on their sole PP.
I cannot see John Jay doing a thing. Yorktown is dark horse and Rye is the favorite. Pelicans?
If the kicked in goal didn’t count, it wouldn’t have seemed so close. Natoli quietly stole another one. The shots were something like 32-14 Rye.
Natoli is the best goalie around – but we were laughing when he knocked the goal off the posts when he got in trouble in the first period.
Like Section 1’s representation in the latest NYSSWA state rankings. Four Section 1 teams (Sufern, Mamo in D I and Rye, Pelham in DII) have been there for a while now. Only powerhouse sections 3 (with 6) and 5 (with 5) have more teams in those rankings. Combine that with Section 1’s stellar play against upstate tems this season and before long the upstate dynasties will be looking to book games at SOR, Hommocks, Hutch and Playland. Way to go downstate.
I think Suffern was very laid back. The undefeated streak hurt Suffern last night in that there were a couple of players that could have used some healing time. If it weren’t for the streak they probably would have been rested. McCarron was the only one who actually sat out. But they certainly were laid back and didn’t battle for the loose pucks like they did against Mamaroneck last Friday.
The opportunity for Suffern to rest some players may be more likely to come in their first two playoff games, but don’t count on it.
i dont think the kick in goal was as bad as Natoli knocking the net off right before the garnets put the puck in the net. at least the kick in looked accidental.
Natoli didnt kick the net off just once either, i saw him do it a couple times.
i saw suffern score 3 times….same cant be said for you
You saw Natoli kick the net off a couple of times? That’s funny Doug, ‘coz the ref only saw it once, and then the face off was outside the zone-LOL
GMen Leave well enough alone. Your refs helped you as much as they could. The kick in was explained to Natoli as being allowable under NCAA rules which were NOT in effect in the game. Duh. Only Natoli knocks the net off, never the other team, and never the other teams goalie. Your fans cheered hits more than goals. We gave your team credit for a fine two games and yet you whine like a baby a day later?? Now i understand why the Mamaroneck fans are all over you guys. Suck it up, you lost AT HOME, and you can’t blame Rockland refs. You had four Power Plays and you couldnt score. Suffern had one and they did. You gave up a breakaway, and you let our forward take the puck behind your net and put it in. Suffern won, Rye lost. All the Suffern fans gave Rye credit and your coach broke the game down just right. OK, now repeat after me, We Lost the Game, Both teams played well, and the final score was 3-2 Suffern. Try to grow up and give credit where credit is due. You lost at home. You have a good team but you are a big baby.
”...at least the kick in looked accidental.”
It appeared to me that if those refs could have called a penalty on Suffern for deliberately knocking off the net they would have. And since the face-off was out of the zone, it must have been a Rye player that did it.
But if Eck keeps kicking like that, he could wind up on the Rockettes.
What teams have the best home ice advantage? I mean in terms of crowd size, rowdiness, locker rooms etc.
I smell a backhanded comment from a CN parent/fan/player/former parent within the next few posts in response to your question, Pelham Hockey.
Then i guess if Natoli keeps kicking posts off, he’ll wind up right next to Eck
Pelham Hockey, do you really need to ask that question??
Happy Valentine’s day.
Love, your hockey playing son.
In no particular order:
Best Crowds/Atmosphere on any given nite:
Mondays- Be at Playland for RTH. Big, vocal crowds (especially against Rye). Miss the DJ and intros though.
Tuesdays- You’ll want to get down to the Ice Hutch to watch the Pelicans. Knowlegeable, compasionate but not too rowdy crowds fill this tired rink for big games.
Wednesdays- That would be Playland again, this time for Rye’s home slot. Big, rowdy (read student body) crowds that often “get on” the opposing goalie and players. Don’t sit in the student section bleachers if you support the opposing team. The balcony above is a much more hospitable seat. The DJ competes with SOR’s-see below.
Thursday- Its time for open air play in a WP game at Ebersole. Poor viewing angles, limited seating and freezing temperatures don’t keep the numerous passionate fans away. There is something exciting about hearing the ice rip under skate blades on a cold February evening.
Friday- Where else but SOR to cap off the work week. Love the DJ and the mini mites skate at intermission (complete with Suffern HS player hero worship). The Mounties have a very large, loyal, knowlegeable, hospitable (to fans of opposing teams) fan base.
Saturday- Time for a visit to the jungle (Hommocks)and a Mamo Tiger match. The SOR and Playland sound systems are better, so the DJ here has an uphill battle. Also, Mamo might get more students if their home slot was on a week nite, or earlier on Saturday nite. Still, a great crowd to play in front of.
I think only Pelham (at Hutch) and Suffern (at SOR) have private locker rooms.
The CHSHL teams suffer from not really having a “home” rink. The league just buys ice and doles it out in unusual ways. I once saw a game at the Ice Hutch between a team from Staten Island (St Joe by the Sea) and a team from Long Island (Chaminade).
But, that Iona/Fordham game at Playland over Thanksgiving break is always played in front of a packed (albiet neutral) house.
“Then i guess if Natoli keeps kicking posts off, he’ll wind up right next to Eck”
He’d be in good company, but the costumes?!?
The DJ PA guy who now does Rye games now is the same guy that does Pelham games at the Ice Hutch. I think the Ice Hutch was the first rink to have DJ`s for high school games. Rye`s crowd is rough and a factor but they never see them travel. I expected to see them at SOR for the Suffern game a few weeks back but they were not there. Mamaronecks crowd is rough when they get the lead on the scoreboard. I hate their annoying end of period horn. For Stepinac games I attend I hate Murrays. Its windy cold and its hard to watch a game there. The SOR dj is like a NASCAR event too much I think
can someone tell me what Chanel 12 was doing at the Suffern-Rye game last night? There was nothing on the night edition and nothing on the morning edition. Perhaps it would have only been newsworthy if Rye won or the Suffern team held a beer/bong/ and sex orgy in the locker room.
fanotgame:
Thanks for your perspective, I support Pelham as an ex-player’s parent and I still follow the team.
I was kind of disappointed when I went to the Rye Town Harrison game and Pelham brought a bigger crowd than RTH had. I noticed that there wasnt one unified student section, and each group was pretty quiet.
Later that week I went to the Rye-Pelham game and again pelham brought a big crowd and the Rye kids had a large crowd too. They were loud, gettin on top of the goalie, and the students didnt really curse.
I feel that teams at the ice hutch have a disadvantage crowd-wise because their is bleacher seating that is kinda far away from the ice, and its hard to see through those boards.
I was most impressed at Suffern with the crowd, they seemed into it, had a big crowd, and no one was violently fanatical, which I have seem some Pelham and Rye kids be.
Man bites dog, that was out of line.
Can people please ignore whatever that guy just said about the suffern team.
That was not a comment about Suffern Hockey who were totally not involved in that scandal, but a comment about Channel 12 and their irresponsible reporting. Last time we were at Rye Playland that Tara Rosenbitsch wouldn’t leave Suffern people alone!
Parking is difficult, atmosphere is awesome even as a visiting team. You can see everything pretty well. At least the bath rooms are clean unlike many other places. The Hutch parkway coming down from Rye is dicey depending on game time. Watched a bunch of great games in that place
Channel 12 had a nice peice about the Suffern/Rye game at 11:25 last nite. Just spoke of the game and showed a few goals.
Mamaroneck has a private locker room too
Harold how do the rankings work, mamk was 4 in the state and lost to number one by just 1 goal and they are now moved to 12th? that just doesnt seem right considering almost all the teams ahead have so many losses, some range from 5-8
The state rankings are a joke, you can’t take any ranking system seriously. When it is all said and done and the section playoffs are over, then there will be 2 teams standing, so all this junk about rankings and who is better than who is all just trash talk. The teams will show it on the ice.
Suffern keeps winning, but if anyone saw them play their last 2 games, I would not think that people would think they are the best public school team in the state. Best goalie in the state possibly, best team… nope. Probably not the best team in the section either.
To mamo has one:
Forgot about the Tiger locker room at Hommocks. So, the top 3 teams in the Section (over the last 15 yrs or so) have the fancy digs. Maybe that is the answer.
To crowds, djs and atmosphere:
The Rye fans don’t really travel during the regular season. But they did come up by the busloads to Brewster for Sectional Finals and Utica for Frozen Four last playoff season. And more than a few made the midweek trip to Ft Covington (Salmon River) for regional champs.
Mamaronecks locker room is not secured. Mamaroneck varsity gets first dibs on it when there is a game, but is by no stretch their locker room. The JV, Modified, and all the mamk travel teams all use that locker room. And if a mamk team is not using it, other teams use it, as well as mens leagues use it as well. The Varsity teams has lockers in there, so their stuff is secured, but like I said, it is an open locker room. Mamk does not pay rent for it like some teams do at other rinks.
Eck would definately be the prettier rockette in that bunch, to “Cheese with your Whining” you’re the loser, and tears usually go with whining, not cheese
Natoli is a great golie and a good sport, but if I had a dolar for every time he kicked the net off, I’d be a rich man.
Listen, it might be wrong but good goalies kick off the net all the time…..... Question? who kicks the Net off more?
Reagan_X__ (my Vote) LOL
Natoli___
any WP/ETB score?
Ummmm genius, when you get older, you will be able to understand the concept of Whine and Cheese. Obviously you were one of the genious’s cheering when the player was on the ice hurt and laying there. Nicely done. So thanks for your lesson on what you don’t know, and i am sorry that you got your panties in a bunch but the Rye parents already apologized for your sophomoric behaviour. Should i explain that to you as well, or are you already a junior and really really smart now? I understood the Rye parents who explained your lack of understanding of hockey already. Have you covered metaphors yet in HS? Sorry i was so obtuse that you missed the point. I know you only go to the games to see kids get hit, but maybe one of the parents will explain the game to you, as well as what Wine and Cheese are, but somehow i am pretty sure you are very well versed in the former.
DPW,
A sportswriter up in Syracuse is responsible for putting together the rankings, with input from someone from each section (I am not the Section 1 rep). I wouldn’t take them too seriously—the first week’s rankings left out Section 10, White Plains (one of our biggest schools) made its debut in the DII rankings one week, and an undefeated Suffern was ranked behind West Gen at one point—despite winning the WG tournament. Nevertheless, it is a relative indication of where teams stand. What it really means to me, and some people have touched on this already, is it shows that Section 1 teams are now taken seriously around the state.
Also, I have added Pelham’s Andrew Emerson to the list above with Conner and Eck.
Pelham 3 North 0
any score on other games?
Buckee
podcast or vcr anytime soon harold?
Great goalies kick the net off if they have the power to do so, great awareness beyond his years maybe? You know what though, I would have expected Suffern to try and reduce the amount of shots he has had to take this season, but instead it seems as if he keeps getting more and more each game, like Harold says, one went off a skate that wasn’t the goalies fault, but you know what, keep giving up that many shots, and more will go off skates.
Um, ok, someone please tell me what happened in the WP, ETB game. It’s not like WP to run up the score 12-1, the only time they hit 10 was the first game of the year. And what has happened to ETB?
White Plains 12 – ETB 1
white plains played every single player for the second half of the 2nd period and the entire third period. a good 3 of white plains goals the wp player(s) did not try and score.. it sucks for eastchester because with their entire team they actually have a great young future but the goaltending is horrendous.
Pelham has scored more goals against JUST North and Mahopac than North has scored all year.
Out shot 52-7, thats ugly, I felt bad for them
wow ETB what happened, I would love to hear some excuses let them roll in
If good goalies do it, does that make it not cheating? To me, it’s a blot on his legacy and has caused me to lose respect for him.
To,
Vote!! and not a suffern defender,
So basically what you two are saying is great goalies know how to cheat and get away with it?
Can I have the 99 cent frosty?
WAIT, THEY DISCONTINUED THE 99 CENT FROSTY, I HAVE TO PAY 1.50
I GUESS I’LL GO MUNCH ON A LATKA
New Rochelle 4- Pearl River 1
Way to go New Ro !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cheating? no…he could have gotten a delay of game penalty. The ref should be blamed if it was delibrate, not him. its just like tripping someone or hooking someone to prevent a goal, is that cheating? or is that hockey? what if the goalie was out of the play with an empty net, and the defensmen knocked the net off? cheating? or hockey?
-still want to know the WP story, they haven’t run it up yet, why 12 now, something weird must have happened, and what has happened to ETB?
It was senior night and the team worked hard to get all the seniors a goal/point. As far as why…..maybe to show ETB they weren’t going down like they said they would against them!
pelham outshot north 52-7? i guess McIndoe is the real deal
First off ETB was missing 9-10 kids, yes thats right their top lines were not there. Two, WP Coaches are not very bright. They played their first line practically the whole game. Way to win WP, what a tacky move on your part. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Then again from what I understand it is just the way you always play. ETB say what you want.. at least they have class something you have no clue/ inkling about.
I have never seen any goalie at any level kick the net off more than Andy Iles did for Ithaca last year in the State semifinal game and then again in the final. I think the total for the two games was 12, 7 and 5.
If you don’t want the post to get kicked off, bring back the screw in pegs. I’m sure the goalies won’t mind. It will give them something more solid to push off of. Of course a few forwards may wind up with concusions, but if it will shut people up it may be worth it.
First off ETB doesn’t have 9 to 10 good players. Get serious and take a beating. Lose your playoff game and be gone. Get a goalie coach for starters next year to help out.
how about those NHL pegs? the yellow ones the will only push off if some1 actually goes flying into them….i mean they cant be that more dangerous than the ones they use now, and it will stop people from kicking them off
o wait…
nevermind natoli graduates this year
“Of course a few forwards may wind up with concusions, but if it will shut people up it may be worth it.”
that is a very ignorant way to solve a problem
“that is a very ignorant way to solve a problem”
Sometimes that’s what it takes to shut up the ignorant!
Evey good goalie I have ever met kicks the net off, and considering both my brothers played D1 prerp school and D3 college goalie, I have seen many good goalies and top level games. Not saying it is right but it happens, alot
Natoli is about 6’2”, close to 6’5” maybe on skates, and must weigh at least 200lbs. maybe more and is wearing another 40-50 lbs. of equipment depending on how wet it is. The pegs they use now don’t stand a chance when a goalie that size, who is hugging the post, has to push off quickly to get to the other side of the net.
Now if your goalie is 5’ 3” tall on skates and weighs 120 lbs. soaking wet, then the pegs may be fine. But to say that a kid like Natoli is cheating because those weak posts comes off is out of line.
Let’s face it, the rinks like those weak posts because it reduces the risk of injury and law suite. On the other hand they allow forwards to crash the net alot faster and harder without fear, making the goalies life a lot harder.
Seems to me the choice is stronger or unmovable pegs and the forwards having to be more cautious, or you put up with the occassional net off. Your choice….but it probably makes less of a difference to the goalies than anybody.
Now if Natoli were to do like Reagan and put his back under the crossbar and lift it off when he’s in trouble, I could understand some of your comments. But, I have never seen Natoli do that and I’ve seen all of Suffern’s games over the past 3 years.
Your Story is BS….if you were there you would realize that it was SENIOR night and they did play the seniors all night. WP also was respectful enough to annouce ETB’s seniors. It was their last game of their HS career at their home rink. Sorry but the whole bench played last night for WP as well. Yes, the starters played the whole game….IT WAS THEIR LAST GAME AT EBERSOLE. Don’t know of any Senior night were the seniors didn’t get to play the whole game! Maybe ETB shouldn’t have trashed it up about beating WP on every other blog!
Natoli is about 6ft 2in, maybe close to 6ft 5in on skates. He must weigh at least 200 lbs and has an additional 40-50 lbs of equipment on, depending on how wet it is. If he’s hugging the post and has to push off to get to the other side quickly, sometimes those weak posts don’t stand too much of a chance.
Now if your goalie is 5 ft 3 in on skates and weighs 130 lbs soaking wet, I’m sure the posts are just fine.
The net occasionally coming off is the price that is paid for safety. It’s not cheating. It’s an engineered, thought out, built in part of the game. The leagues and rinks love the movable posts because it reduces chance of injury and law suites. Goalies in all honesty are not happy with them because they allow the forwards to attack the net without fear and are not as solid to push off of.
BTW Your Story is BS- didn’t hear you bashing PAWLING when THEY beat you with 12 GOALS! lol lol
Senior nite? Hogwash! That’s a new one. Keeping the seniors in in the 3rd period of a 9-1 game, because it was their last game at EBERSOL? It’s their last game at Ebersol, because someone didn’t want to pony up a few bucks to make the rink exceptable for the sectionals. The most ridiculus part of that is the ‘stars” should have been long gone in a game like that with the playoffs around the corner. Never know when injuries could strike.
Sorry the lose hurt so much but your statements are hogwash….would you sit out of your last home game of your HS career? If you answered yes, you are just kidding yourself. One of those stars had the hattrick before the second period barely got started. Sorry he’s soooo good!
I was at the Suffern Game on Wednesday. I saw that Suffern only played 3 defensman.I heard that one of them were hurt. Does suffern not have any D that can fill in. I saw on the roster that 2 of the starters are seniors. Whats going to happen next year.
Norwin and McCarron are going to get an awful lot of ice time. They better get into some serious shape in the off-season.
Just hope they don’t get hurt
Yeah, real good. LOL- did you check the stat sheet for the Suffern game? Just an excuse to gimme points. Besides, Ididn’t say sit out, see where you go against league 1 playoff teams. Enjoy your 15 minutes
So now who are you….WP played two of those league 1 teams already this year and beat them both. Suffern is a great team and NO ONE has beat them, so what is your point?
wow, you scored 12 on ETB who gave up 12 to pawling, youre tough, classless, but tough
wow, you announced the other teams seniors but left yours in in a 9-1 game
its not like it is their last game ever, thatll occur in a week or so against RTH, Mamaroneck, or Suffern.
I guarantee you that in a 9-1 game after 2..no no no, in a 5-1 game after two even, the everyone elses starters would have their @$$es planted on that bench tonight in their last ‘home regular season game’
the only reason its their last home game is because, well, they are hiding in league 2, so they only get one home game while the better league 1 teams get byes, and 2, because they refused to make the rink playoff acceptable. maybe they shouldnt have wasted all that $$$ on new sabres-like jerseys (though they are pretty sweet lookin) or on megaphones that have rained on the ice
lastly, no one complained when pawling scored 12 for a few reasons- 1, it was a 12-9 game…they HAD to score 12, otherwise, theyd have lost..you only HAD to score 3. also, no one said anything about pawling scoring 12 because no one cares if you beat a league 3 team (even though 1/3 of your sched, is against league 3 and 4), hench, youre a joke
oooooo our players lead the section in pointsssss, but were the 6 seed and wont make it to the section final…youre small potatoes, so i guess, enjoy your win, cause there are only 1 or 2 left
sandbaggers
seacrest out!
Has anyone seen Biff
Other teams had senior nights and when ahead in the game played all the kids and did not run up the score. It is evident by the history of White Plains in the last few years that they place importance on certain things. They delibrately stayed down in league two to win a league championship and win the all league awards that first place in the league gets. They have run up the score whenever they can in order to get leading scorer awards. That is their choice to do, some may not agree but it is their choice. I have a problem when they deny who they are and suggest that they are not like that when all evidence and history says they are
FL
so if BIFF is in FL, does that mean that Mrs. BIFF will be left all alone tonight?
You’re obviously an angry person over something! Are you people really that nasty or just like to put down a team because they are finally good and won the league, which once again they haven’t done in 12 years? Just because WP is good this year…everyone bashes them. I looked at the stats on a lot of games and you are all full of it because every team is guilty of one or another thing that WP has been accused of. So pipe down and let the season play out. The players did not purposely “stay down” or “hide in league 2.” Why didn’t the teams who did not belong in League 1 move down? Leagues are made the year before….who had the crystal bell and knew how it would fall this season? One of those leading scoreres missed 7 games. HS stats are not what is important if you want to take your hockey career to another level. Maybe you just can’t get to that other level but stop bashing those who can and will!
They and all of WP know who and what they have accoplished. Your angry words won’t change that. BTW-AGAIN, the ETB was a required crossover.
WP came in THIRD in league 2 last year. Tell me what you’re reasoning is based on that, why they should have moved up? Forget this year and them being GOOD and winning. Go with last year, which was used as the basis. Oh I forgot, the players crystal ball said let’s stay down in league 2 and win all the awards so everyone can trash us. Yeah right! Keep trashing it up and trying to take away accomplishments but it won’t work. Forget the other games on the schedule. WP beat everyone in their league, including the two teams that did move down from league one.
You can’t change it so instead you will try to trash it up to convince YOURSELF that they are no good. WRONG!
Hardly call winning league 2 an accomplishment with the team you have. Lets see what happens next week, if you have all your players
I find it ironic that people criticize Natoli for kicking the net off when the reason the kid missed going to the state final last season is the Ithaca goalie kicking the net off on Suffern’s game-winner in OT1 and on two of the three shots by Suffern in the shootout. How many shots did Natoli stop in that game? 50? Yeah, I’m sure he just gets by because he kicks the net off. And he’s the only one. Let’s keep talking about that. It doesn’t sound bitter or petty at all.
And that Ithaca goalie was a 120 lb. freshman. He was viciously kung fu leg sweeping the post to knock it off. Nobody cared.
Yes ACCOMPLISHMENT, you can read it but do you know what it means? They did ACCOMPLISH winning the league for the first time in 12 years and that is something all of WP is proud of. What is your saRcastic remark “with the team you have. Lets see what happens next week, if you have all your players?”
WP says they are being bashed because they are successful and won league 2? yes, but admit thats why you were in that league, just admit it, and come clean. White Plains placed more importance on the league championship and thats fine. Just admit it. That was WP priority. Just stop acting like it not the case. My team Mamaroneck and most of the league 1 teams have not won a league championship in a while because Suffern and lately Clarkstown has won it. Mamaroneck could have done the same and played in league 2 and probably would have won the league championship every year they were in it. That goes for Pelham, Rye, Scarsdale a few years back to. Mamaroneck doe not prioritize league championships they go for the sectionals
let the playoffs do the talking not the regular season thats all that matters anyways.
While I kind of (just a little) agree with you “my point” I am sorry to say you are not goint to win the section this year either. No league title, no section title, maybe you should move down to league 2. You are going to have a tough time next year without connor, so maybe it will be a good move. If you don’t move down next year you could go at least 4 years in a row without a league or section win. Believe it or not I am getting a little bored with the WP bashing. It is old news, lets move on already.
shouldn’t you be in class Hockey 914??
To Baggers of sand,
you need to get your facts straight before you continually bash WP. The starters that played in the 3rd period vs ETB, were told by the coach to try and set up seniors who have never scored a varsity goal. Unfortunately, 2 of the 3rd period goals were scored accidentally on PASSES intended for those players. If you were there, you would have seen it, and known what was happening. The other goal was scored by a non-starter. WP was beating PVille earlier this season 9-0 after 2 periods, the coach told them to trap, and not to shoot in the 3rd. Players and parents from Pville thought THAT was unsportsmanlike.
As for trying to pad stats, WP has never had a player win the sectional scoring title before, why would they care now? If you actually bothered to watch any of their games, you would know that rarely do their leading scorers score (in blowouts) after the 2nd period.
You seem to be so interested (and angry) towards WP. No way you could be, or ever was a hockey player yourself…probably just a sad, angry person who reads scores, reads blogs, and makes a lot of incorrect assumptions.
To No Question on White Plains,
are you kidding? They stayed in league 2 to win championship and the awards that go with it? They have been in league 2 for the last 9 years. This is their first league title…they were there because that is wher they belonged over the years. This year’s team happened to be unpredictably good. A combination of talent, depth, hard work, and dedication. Every year (like every other team) they try to be the best team they possibly can. Should they have been in league 1 this season? Sure, but who knew they would be this good, AND who knew some league 1 teams would have down years? Hindsight is 20/20.
It is also rediculous that you say they run up scores. Obviously, you haven’t been to their games. If you would have, you would notice that they, in most instances, try to keep the score DOWN. In fact, WP has won 8 games this year by 5 goals or more…in those 8 games they have scored a total of 13 goals in the 3rd period…4 of the 13 were vs Yorktown where the score was 3-1 heading into the 3rd…and another was scored vs Ryetown (a very good league 1 team, fully capable of coming back). So really, you DON’T know what you’re talking about. If they were trying to pad stats and run up scores, they could have put up 15, 16, or 17 a bunch of times this year.
Maybe the both of you should stick to commenting on the team you follow, tell everyone how good they are. Tell us some good things about a team you know a little better, rather than talk bad about a team you nothing about (or a sport you know nothing about, for that matter).
Hockey 914: I will give you the same advice I give my own kid and you can do with it what you will. It is ok if you want to be a wise A$$, but, just know that somewhere, someday, someone is NOT going to find you funny, and trust me, they are going to let you know.
Now I know you are just full of air because Rye was in league 2 last year and did win it and Scarsdale moved down to league 2 this year. As far as looking to sectionals….well I guess Mam’k should work harder than! BTW -All season everyone has said that Suffern, Mam’k, Rye, and Pelham have had successful programs year after year. WP has NEVER had a winning team like this years and have lost year after year in their league. SO ENOUGH! Again, no one can answer the question why a team that has never won the league in 12 years and came in third last year should have moved up to league 1. Instead of running your mouths with that nasty crap BACK IT UP with your valid points.
postman…was that almost something nice you said about WP? Either way, thanks!
Hey Postman and Ramapo’s Finest, Greetings from Florida, I am here at a hockey tournament with a future Suffern varsity player. and Yes, Mrs. Biff is on her own tonight and I expect you two to protect her. btw, postman, as you continue your investigation into LoHud hockey, Mrs. Biff wants to know if LoHud and 44control from syracuse.com fame may be one and the same person.
44control is a CN fan though, his son had played for CN

Nobody cared.”
I agree Charlie.
Everybody on this forum gets their underwear in a twist when a kid gets trashed…....except when it’s Natoli getting trashed. I guess it’s lonely at the top.
To me this seems to be the high school hockey version of negative campaigning?
Hockey Mom, just thought it is enough already, how does it feel to have everyone hate you, (or at least many). Us at suffern know it well, maybe i had a short bout with empathy. Like I wrote before I kind of agree (to a point) with the whole league 2 thing, but I honestly would love to see WP in the finals. If you lose before then you are going to read a whole bunch of sh^t on here. Honestly GOOD LUCK!Biff, that is a very good observation! Good work by Mrs. Biff. I am gonna get work on that lead.
As far as Natoli goes, most at suffern know him well enough to know that he really does not need to be defended. He is one of the best goalies in section 1 history (one of the best so please don’t throw a bunch of names that you feel are better) and the people who wrote stuff about him really don’t deserve a response.
Thanks postman…I appreciate that moment of emphathy. I hope to see WP in the finals as well. As far as being hated, it just means that you must be good and that is why others need to try and knock you down because of their jealousy! It hasn’t worked yet!
Steve Schlanger, Suffern 2006
Shoudl be very good. They won’t be undefeated like this year, but definitely near or at the top of League 1. Projections for next year’s team:
Captains: Hiller, Hill and McCarron
1st Line
Forwards: Hiller, Hill, Jaeger
Defense: Norwin, McCarron
Goalie: Gabriel or Rice
2nd Line
Forwards: Goetz, Modica, Baker/Gatta/Mitchell
Defense: They’ll have to figure this one out!
To Suffern next year,
A lot of teams can list 2 solid forward lines. What has separated you from the pack the last few years has been defensive depth and goaltending. Only time will tell whether those 2 key ingredients are in next year’s Mountie team. I’m betting Suffern will have them to some extent, but we have to wait and see. This season, the coach has only played Natoli in goal and a select few D men in close games.
Defensemen for Suffern next year will be:
McCarron, Norwin, Fuchs, Byrnes, Calandra, Bergstall and Mitchell.
As far as who becomes the second line….they’re all talented so it will probably be who wants it the most.
Pelham: Flory Duffy Emerson
Clay Mamone
Durand
2nd line: Rivera Hernandez ?
D: Harms Dzenis
We might see Clay at forward and Duffy at D, or Clay at Forward with someone like Perrazio playing the 4th d-man.
I think Pelham is the favorite next year.
To sec 1 Fan- I agree as long as the golaie continues to improve. Need a strong goalie to be the “favorite”.
Last year Vesselis was the #1 and this year Durand has stepped up and has improved. In some games he looks like he did last year, i.e. Rye 1st Period, but in others he looks like a quality high school goalie….I still wish we had Sheehy…..
Durand is doing pretty good right now
What is going to happen when HS hockey is over in one game and your son is reduced to just playing junior A hockey. No more star tooling around hapless HS opponents. He will then be forced to play hard every game and in the end play DIII at best in two years. Reality is club hockey awaits and there are no blogs there for you mom. Adios mama! LOL
There isn`t anyone on WP thats a D3 lock. Some of the most domininant players in our area get there and not all of them play or even make it.
haha all you haters keep doubting him and when you do see him playing high level college hockey, just kick urselves in the behind for being such ignorant nasty people.
and when is it a reduction to be playin junior hockey are you a f’ing joke? im pretty sure high school hockey is by far the biggest joke of them all. junior A reduction? hahahaha moron. tell me another player in the section playing junior A tool.
I suppose that comment is for me. I am sorry you are so bitter that my son is an excellent hockey player and he made it to a level that you didn’t. Juniors means you play hard every time….practice and games, which he’s been doing for the last three years. Sorry you couldn’t/wouldn’t cut it in real Juniors and it makes you so jealous of my son’s accomplishments. You can eat your words when you see where he goes. If you are who I think you are…must be a family trait stabbing people in the back! Playing midgets is really a lot of work, huh? Maybe I am wrong so tell me who you are since you know who I am and then I can tell you the real deal! But obviously you won’t and that is why you hide behnd an anonymous blog…whimp! And haha you’ll see….thank you, whoever you are.
Hockey mom all due respect to you. I have no idea which player is being discussed but I will say this. There is one clear college prospect d3 for sure and possibly d1 in our area and its the Suffern goalie. Other than that all the other very good players are a roll of the dice. You need to get outside of the ny area and see whats out there. It is very competitive to the point that many juniors playing today, and ushl etc leagues those kids are going college club which is really improving. please do not count your chickens as the odds are really low, I would love to see it as I root for our area players but its a very long long shot. You would almost be better making sure he has top notch grades and then try to walk on a d3 team. It is super competitive right now. Talk to college coaches do not listen to junior coaches as they will say anything to keep the $$$ flowing. Good luck to whoever your son may be
easy easy…he has already spoken to college coaches and it is very competitive but I do believe he will ge there. So thank you for your words and your wishes!
Wow….guess that shut you up….I must’ve been right!
this should have shut you up weeks ago
6-1
Why….losing to the #1 ranked team in the state along with every other team. Oh, 6-1, do you think it would have been better losing 2-1? NO because either way it is a lose and it stinks either way!
