Massena, Thousand Islands advance

March
9

Not sure if this makes Mamaroneck and Rye fans feel better or worse, but state quarterfinal opponents Massena and TI both advanced to the championship game yesterday. Here are the details from Utica.

Massena, scoring three goals in a 1:20 span of the second period, beat a depleted Lancaster team 5-3, and TI lost a 3-0 lead, and then scored with 1:33 left to beat Sweet Home 4-3 despite being outshot 36-15. The finals opponents are West Genesee in DI and Queensbury in DII.

Massena won the state Championship D1. Oh the horror. It could easily have been Mamaonreck or Suffern.

Massena beat West Genesee in triple overtime. Must have been a great game. Can't wait for the details.

My son told me you could hear announcements of the "all state" players after the Massena/West Genny game ended. From section 1, it sounded like Natoli (Suffern) and Hagen (Mamaroneck) made 1st team, and Salt (Suffern), Ojeda (Suffern) and Conner (Mamaroneck) made 2nd team and McIndoe (Clarkstown North) made honorable mention. Congratulations to all. We are proud of all of you. I hope I didn't miss anybody from the section. Does anyone know if this is officially posted somewhere? No mention at all of LoHud Hockey as all state blogger, 1st team. That is an outrage and I have launched an investigation.
