2009 playoff dates

Because it’s never too early to think about next year. Big news is that there is still no outbracket, and in the state quarters the Division I winner must now travel to Section 10 (state champ Massena?), and the Division II winner will travel to Section 2 (top-ranked Queensbury?) It also looks like everything was pushed back a week. The state tournament dates are set in stone, while the sectional dates can still be changed.
Division I
First Round Monday 2/23
Quarters Thursday 2/26
Semis Saturday 2/28
Final Monday 3/1
Division II
first round Tuesday 2/24
Quarters Friday 2/27
Semis Sunday 3/1
Final Tuesday 3/3
Regionals Saturday March 7
Division I vs section 10 @ section 10
Division II vs section 2 @ section 2
Final Four Saturday March 14
Division I
1-10 winner vs 6-9 winner
5-7 winner vs 2-3 winner
Division II
1-2 winner vs 9-10 winner
6-7 winner vs 3-5 winner
Finals Sunday March 15

who is looking to be the top 3 teams in D1 next year and who are the key players to those teams? Should be a great year of hockey. Suffern and Mamaroneck will be interesting teams to watch because they're both losing big time players. We'll see what players step up.
Mamaroneck is losing Conner and Seid, that is all. Seid will be replaced fairly well. 5 of the 6 forwards on the top 2 lines were either sphomores or Juniors. Goalie is coming back, Hagan, Zweig, Gardiner and Christianson on D are all coming back. Meanwhile Suffern loses just about everyone who was a main player on the Suffern team.
I think it goes
1 mamaroneck
2 Suffern
after that there will be a major dropoff in talent.
By the way, states will go late in to June, A lot of lacrosse and baseball players will be starting very late next year if they make it to the championships.
Pelham HAS to be the favorite in D2 next year. They return an extremely strong team, and they may have the best Senior clas in the section next year – Flory, Emerson, Clay, Dzenis, etc.
Next season has officially started.
I think next year Pelham's first line will be the best in the section. Flory Emerson and Duffy. Pelham also has the best Sophomore in the section with Dzenis and quite possibly the best freshman in Harms. Add that all to the best modified team in the section from last year, the one that beat suffern and mamo, and Pelham is looking good next year.
Rye- is gonna be decent, if Benincasa keeps up the kind of work he did in that section championship he will keep them in most games.
Mamo-looks to be stacked next year with Glaser, Hagan and Jackson all coming back. I think right now they are the d-1 favorite.
RTH- Loses a lot. Urban is a good skater with pretty good hands and a weak shot, I really don't think he can carry a team in league 1 by himself. I think they should go down.
Suffern- If this other goalie (Gabriel?) is as good as you say he is, add that to some returners with a lot of experience and the depth of their program, and Suffern looks to be at the top of the section once again.
Jay- I think they have peaked, I really think they might begin to slowly climb back into the lower leagues.
North- If McIndoe Shuman and Willows all play, this team will be very good. North has never had that much depth and has always had a small team, and with a scorer like Willows and a goalie like McIndoe this team could beat anyone. If Shuman and Willows dont come back, league 3/4 please.
Mahopac- Perelle can score, and there was some good young talent on that team if i can remember correctly. If Perelle can stay healthy and back check….... then I think they are gonna stay in the middle of league 1.
S/NS- Only lost 3 players. Marasco is offically staying and some young talent such as Steve Aruilio, Jesse Rome, Sean Lucian, Ethan Kamer. Such a young team and how they skated with Pelham the entire game, they are my favorite. Any other thoughts?
I think sec1fan has it about right. Assuming all players return to school (a big if) and no one new comes back into a sec 1 school (another big if), I see next year's league 1 standings ending up something like:
Mamo
Suffern
Pelham
Rye
WP (replacing North)
Pac
Jay
RTH
But, at the HS level, adding or subtracting one or two impact players can make a big difference. North is competitive with the bottom 1/2 of league 1 if Willows and Shuman come back. Pac has issues if they lose kids to prep school. Pelham's D II favorite staus diminishes if one or more kids go prep.
I think everyone prety much covered the basics here. Here are some key facts that I think:
Mamo – should be the favorite. They'll miss Conner, but they have other talent and their JV and Modified teams were extremely strong again. Should be easy to reload.
Suffern – the 5 starters are solid – Hiller, Hill, Jaeger, Norwin and McCarron. Big questions are the 2nd line on both offense and defense and GOALTENDING. But given all the goalies on Suffern are well experienced with Travel teams, they should be just fine.
Pehlam – returns a strong team. probably favorite in D2.
Rye – will miss Eck and Rogers, but will stll be solid I believe. I've seen their Modified team – still League 1 competitive.
Rye Town – decimated by graduation. The Big 4 – both McKinneys, Novick and Keegan have carried this team and program for the past four years. Urban is a very good player, but he can't do it all on his own, and replacing McKinney in goal will be tough. I see them dropping to League 2 possibly.
JJ – not really sure what to expect of them.
Pac – it was a rebuilding year – 16 of their 22 players this year were underclassmen. and they return perelle. should win a few more games this year and be in the middle of League 1 next year.
WP – this is the year to move up to League 1. Yes, Rui and Sigona are gone, but its still time. Their modified team last year beat Suffern's. They return a strong team. It's time for the move!
North – IF Willows and Shuman return, this will be a very dangerous team. I hear there is a very outstanding defenseman coming up from Modified this year and should start right away. The starting lineup would compete with anyone in the Section. Could look like this: Forwards: Willows, Shuman, Cohen/Kapnick. Defense: Byrnes and a very solid freshman. Goalie: McIndoe. I'm guessing all them wouldnt come off the ice, because i do not know who would be on second line.
Pelham- Much Improved
Rye- Declined
Suffern- Declined
Mamo- Improved (slightly)
RTH- Severely decimated
Jay- Same
Mahopac- Much Improved
North- Willows/Shuman-Much Improved, Without- Still bad
My eyes are adjusting to this new format.
Why not New Ro and ETB (if commitment and goaltending issues are resolved) for league 1. They'd at least be the equal of a JJ, WP and CN (w/out Will and Shu).
These teams are returning all significant players and I understand have some mod talent coming up.
The only issue with Mahopac is that they lose there starting goalie. They may have weak goaltending for next year.
are you saying that mahopac had strong goaltending this year?
Even with King, McCabe, Shipper and DiMario leaving, Iona will have a very strong team next year. Only losing 5 seniors, but the team should be very COMPETITVE and challenge again for the CHSHL crown.Returning are alot of Good Forwards and a Strong Defense. Young Goal-Tending could hurt. But played very well at JV level. JV team should be very strong next year as they have a great Freshman class coming in.
Iona could potentially have four lines next year. Have four players from JV that will move up and start immediately.
Forwards
Cambria,Lopez,Pellow
Molinaro,Traficante, McCardle
McElroy,Adavosio, Buam
Geraci,Nolan,Lynett
Defense
Murphy, Kirincic,Gillispie, Patalano,McCrory
Bring up JV goalie.
What's with the format changing back and forth (And Dan Kiernan still being listed as the author of the blog)?
I received this message from our tech department:
"Its part of the transition. We’re working hard to restore that stuff asap. Thanks for your patience."
I, for one, cannot wait to see what happens next.
CHSHL B Division Championship tonight (Game 3 of a best-of-3)
Archbishop Molloy (Queens) vs. Xavier (Manhattan)
Ice Hutch 6:45
CT State Championships are this weekend at Ingalls Rink in New Haven (Yale). DII championships are Friday night and DI Championship is Saturday afternoon.
Also the Midget Minor and Midget Major championships are this weekend in LI and Brooklyn.
Thats the the New York State (NYSAHA) championships that are this weekend in Brooklyn and LI.
How is that CHSHL B division hockey? I saw the St Joes vs Iona state championship at Ice Hutch. Good hockey. I wish it had been a closer game but it was good fast paced HS hockey.
Mariners Midget Major in Syracuse and Minors in Alexandria Bay looking to bring back State titles.
Right, its Tier I in LI/Brooklyn. I wish the Mariners luck but Syracuse and Alexandria Bay are a little far to go to watch a hockey game.

I just found this out of curiosity. NJ State Championships are this weekend too and its at Mennen Arena which is totally drivable from Westchester.
http://www.njhockey.org/2008states.html
Actually the NJ semis are this weekend and the finals are next weekend at Prudential Center. Prep finals are at 2pm, Public B at 4pm and Public A at 6pm. How's that for an exciting day of HS hockey?
While everyone is predicting the season for next year- let's not forget that the Army Hockey Team is off to the playoffs in Rochester this weekend. They are a fun team to watch and these young men will serve their country with honor upon graduation! GO BLACK KNIGHTS! Congratulations to Brian Riley (head coach), his staff and the amazing team!
So with all this talk about Willows and Shuman coming back, can anyone confirm if they are coming back or not?
It doesn't matter. No one cares except for CN. Since you brought it up though, I know that Willows went to prep school last year what happened to Shuman? Was he injured or something?
TigerVet2, where have you been? the topic of shuman and where he was this past season has been discussed a thousand times.. and obviously you care or you wouldn't have responded or asked the question.
Repeat after me…It just doesn't matter. By the end of the second period we will be up by at least 3 or 4 goals. Can't wait to play your Mounties next season. Lets start guessing what the scores will be. I'll start 6-1, 4-1.
the rest of the Section better care if Willows and Shuman do or do not come back, because they can make a HUGE difference between CN being again one of the worst teams, or being a legit Section contender.
PuckFan,
Solid point. Army finished 1st in Atlantic Hockey (above RIT, Sacred Heart and Air Force, none of which are pushovers) and is led by Hollweg's older brother, a captain and senior, Bryce (30 points in 35 games). The team is currently awaiting its opponent (Sacred Heart/Mercyhurst play in Friday night's play-in game) for the semifinals on Saturday. It would be nice to an Army-Sacred Heart game. (The younger of the Ferraro brothers from Pleasantville is a junior on defense for Sacred Heart.)
Taylor,
The CHSHL B Division is basically split in half in terms of talent. Molloy was arguably capable of playing in the A Division (by the way, they won the B with a 4-2 win last night), Xavier and St. Francis Prep (Queens) also made the playoffs, St. Joseph by-the-Sea (Staten Island), Xaverian (Brooklyn) and Monsignor McClancy (Queens) are usually pretty competitive, but Christ the King (Queens) and St. Peter's Prep (Staten Island) probably didn't even belong.
Also this Saturday, Manhattanville plays in a quarterfinal in the D3 tournament at Norwich U. (Vermont). (Semifinals and final are in Lake Placid.)
We can roll three lines. Can CN? Give me a break.
Agree with Tigervet
Willows is a super player (All State as a sophomore after racking up 100+ points). Shuman a solid HS player. McInDoe an All State goalie. That trio would be dangerous, but only with a good supporting cast. I did not see that support on the ice for North this year. If Willows and Shuman have to do everything on their own, it doesn't get done. Hockey is a team game. Need 9 or 10 solid players to compete. Last season North did it with mirrors, 3 superstars (both Willows and Big Shuman) and at least a few other solid players other than L'il Shu. North (with those 2 back) will be fine vs. the bottom 1/2 of league 1, but won't be able to get it done in DI playoffs against a Mamo, Suffern or even WP. Those 3 teams are simply much, much deeper than even a revitalized North team. It would be fun to see them try, though.
"it just doesn't matter, it just doesn't matter" great movie, very funny.
Yes, Bill Murray at his best. Except for Stripes.
Go Black Knights!
I'd say everyone in section 1 or CHSHL can root for Army.
I agree that Mamaroneck has to be the D1 favorite. That means that every team that plays them will bring their A game every time. You always want to beat the best. That means if Mamo ever has an off night, they are susceptible to being beat. That is a lot of pressure to handle game in and game out. And it may wear the team down eventually. Sounds familiar? I honestly don't know what to expect from Suffern next year. We have some solid returning players, but there are a lot of players with talent but precious little game experience. Whether some of them step up big time remains to be seen. However, I have a feeling this will be a very unified, gritty and hard working team. I look forward to that.
"why did the chicken cross the road…? to get from the left to the right" thats a fact jack!!
"Now I know why I always lost chicks to guys like you. Its the stories that you guys tell."
LOL.. "the big toe" alright thats enough, we can go on forever like this..
Ok, one more..
"You are a madman! When you stole that cow and you're friend started making it with the cow. I wanna party with you cowboy."
When I was a kid, my father told me, "never hit anyone in anger, unless you're absolutely sure you can get away with it."
Come on, it's Czechoslovakia. We zip in, we pick 'em up, we zip right out again. We're not going to Moscow. It's Czechoslovakia, it's like going into Wisconsin.
Well, I got the sh** kicked out of me in Wisconsin once. Forget it
Do the words, "act of war," mean anything to you? Huh?
I have a plan.
Great, Custer had a plan, too.
Last one.
There's something wrong with us! Something very, very wrong with us! Something seriously wrong with us!
So this is what we're going to be using the blog for in the off season? Movie quotes? Postman, I learned last summer not to play you in any movie trivia games. All I can quote from are movies like Tommy Boy and Liar Liar. "My teacher says that beauty is on the inside." "That's just something ugly people say".
Hey BIFF, whose your favorite little rascal?? spanky!!
I always liked Darla myself
She was a little younger than your last intern.
Did you know that the hockey scenes from the movie "Slap Shot" were filmed at the Utica Auditorium?
Although much of the movie takes place during the Fall and Winter seasons, when hockey is in season, filming at the Utica War Memorial took place during the month of July.
useless information.. i love it.. we will all be the cliff clavins of hs hockey..
It's great the first time you realize that. You sit in the Aud for an entire weekend and during whistles, resurfaces, etc. you can't help but notice the big silhouettes on the wall of the guy with the guitar, the guy with the briefcase, the guy with the hockey stick, etc. (Kinda like the outside of Shea Stadium, only crappier if that's possible). Then the next time you watch Slap Shot and you see one of those silhouettes in the background it's like a little light bulb goes off over your head.
You go to Box. You feel shame.
And then…You go free
If ETB had a good goalie, they could be third or fourth best team in the section next year. New Ro is returning their first line and goalie, but have only 2 returning defensemen and one is an 8th grader. And to the earlier comment about about a Pelham kid being the best freshman in the section when it is almost definatly New Ro's Prunesti. Unless that other kid is a defenceman, Prunesti had 20 more points than any other freshmen and over twice as many goals. ETBs Hagan is probably the best sophmore in the public schools. Yes they play worse competition the league 1 players, but they also missed games for travel (and travel is the only chance they have to play college). But credit is not given to people outside L1.
P.S. Prunasty. Future nickname when he is written about on this blog.

Classic stuff!
More interesting stuff
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/10/sports/10scholarships.html?pagewanted=1&_r=2&sq=scholarships&st=nyt&scp=1
Well, Pelham's freshman is a defenseman, and he starts on Pelham, who came in third in league 1. New Ro won league 4 right?
Reality – very interesting
http://www.boston.com/sports/articles/2008/03/02/college_hockey_undergoes_a_freshman_reorientation/?page=1
Saw Prunasty in playoff vs. WP where he dangled for 4 goals. Definitely ahead of Harms right now who I saw a bunch. Both pretty good though. Heard Prunasty is considering prep.
Geez, I thought after the embarrasing loss 13-1 we would never have to hear from ETB again. The kid from ETB was totally neutralized vs. Mamaroneck and a total goal hanger, that is not a hockey player, it is a cherry picker. New rochelle has to be joking too, do you know how many freshman and sophomores suffern and mamaroneck have that are better than that kid? The only reason he shines is because of the pathetic division they were in , and the fact that new ro is so bad that they need to play 8th and 9th graders on their team. Those kids would not sniff the ice at Mamk or suffern, or Rye or Pelham for that matter. Please don't tell me they are good teams. Mamk and WP both destroyed ETB and ETB beat new rochelle. New Ro's coach knows not to go higher than league 3 next year. ETB should stay in league 3. Without good goaltending you won't win much with a cherry picker and a bad goalie.
Damn, then we'll take him, come join us in Pelham Sir Prunasty.
I agree with fanotgame. Watched Prunesti play against WP and was all over the ice. I thought he even outshined Rui and Sigona on a couple of shifts during the game. Hes nasty
Any word on the League alignments for 2008-09?
Prunasty has no interest in Prep school, not even iona prep. He gets recruited but loves New Rochelle high school and he would not fit in with prep kids. He could play high level juniors in 2 or 3 years, and even if he misses 10 hs games, the team wont mind. He is modest, but I am not
Thanks for the insight on the younger players. It looks like Prunesty and Harms are the strongest freshmen. Scoring all those goals in a playoff game or getting a regular shift at defence for a top league 1 team is impressive. The sophomore debate is more interesting. What is more impressive, Hagen (Eastchester)or Dorgan (Ossining) both with 33 goals in league 3, Olivario (Scarsdale) and Miller (Brewster) both with 31 in league 2, or Mundinger (Rye) with 19 and Mastracola (Mahopac) with 16 plus 19 assisits in league 1? Also, in the Catholic league, Cambria (Iona) had 21 and Raush (Fordham) had 19.
New Ro's Prunestti is probably the top freshmen in the section. The Suffern amd Mamaroneck freshman, while good and some are very good, wouldn't be choosen over Prunestti, this year. I'm basing this on what I saw in high school play this year and what I know about their club level play.
He's top pick this year…although things can change, still a lot of growing and maturing from freshmen to senior year.
That being said, New Ro should roll the dice and petition for league 1 this year. With that great first forward line, a good second line, and a good goaltender, this maybe their best shot. Although they may have Prunestti for a few more years this could be their most overall-talent packed year in a few.
I agree that New Ro has a legit contending team, but a move from League 4 to League 1 is pretty drastic. Then again, there is a current League 1 team they can easily switch with that can move to League 4 next year – CN (assuming Willows and Shuman don't come back).
I'm curious – Has there ever been a team that has moved up 3 leagues in one year? Or down 2 leagues in one year? Are there rules that state you cannot move up or down by more than one league in one year?
I say League 2 defintely for New Ro next year, they'd be a nice fit there.
New Ro could've been league 3 (definitely) or league 2 (competitive) this year.
Will they be next year's White Plains in league 2? If they do league 1 next year, sure they'll most likely take 4 loses to Suff and Mam, but they'll be in better shape seeding wise and competitive ready for the sectional playoffs.
New Ro would compete with the bottom 1/2 of league 1 next year, but would not have enuf depth (esp at D) to compete with the top 1/2. Interesting call for the coach. Probably depends on who is around after next season. Doesn't make much sense to move up to leauge 1 for just 1 season. Although, that might be what RTH does. Come to think of it, the New Ro situation is a lot like RTH situation this past season. RTH clearly had the talent this past sesson to play League 1. But, that is probably not the case for next year.
I am very sorry, but i have to continue my stance that you cannot judge a kids ability if they play in league 3 or 4, and maybe even 2. "just shoot me" is 100% correct. Now, am i saying they aren't good players? NO, but the problem is we don't really know how good they are. There are kids on suffern and mamaroneck that barely see the ice because of jr's and seniors ahead of them. If the kids you are writing about were on these teams they would also be sitting on the bench for most of the season. So to say they are the best soph, freshman etc. is just uneducated BS. If you take the attitude that this is the only info we have and are forming opinions on what we know then maybe you are correct, the point is, it is not very hard to be a dominate player in league 3 or 4. I don't know if it is right or not but just the way it is. There are a bunch of kids that scored a ton of goals on midget B & C teams!!
Well said postman. You always ring twice.
Fair comment postman…and I'm sure the Mamo and Suff freshman and sophmore players will be coming to the forefront more in the next few years.
That said, some really very good players get overlooked becuase they play on weaker teams or lower leagues. I'll stand by the New Ro kid as a top freshman based on what I saw of his high school play this year and his club level play where he also stands out among the best of his age bracket.
Yes "travel team" it is not always fair.. there are probably a lot of good players that get the shaft because they are on a league 4 team, i am not saying it is right, but it is what it is.. It's like the opposite of when people say the backup goalie on some NHL team S^$ks.. he's in the NHL for pete's sake..
After the dust clears almost every year, its always the same 4 teams left Pelham, Mamaroneck, Suffern, Rye
They are the best
Last Years final 4..
Clarkstown North, Suffern, John Jay, Rye.
Also, Rye was in league 2 last year.
It was a first for JJ and a first for Pelham.
Postman- I understand your point, to a point. But, I have to differ a bit with you. I have on numerous occaisons, seen the Suffern underclassmen that the coach deemed the best (he played them while the others crowded the bench). They are solid players, but some of those mentioned from the lower leagues are farther along in their game at this point. The non power league forwards listed from lowest (4th) to highest (2nd) league (Prunesti, Hagan, Dorgan, Olivario, Miller, Flemming) would all have started over the underclassmen that played forward at Suffern this year. So, I presume, they also would start over the underclassmen that sit on the Mountie bench.
Your Sophomore duo on D is also pretty solid. Probably comparable to Pelham's undeclassmen duo of Dzenis (sophomore) and Harms (freshman).
that is funny, because i didn't miss a suffern game and I barely saw any of the underclassmen play. There was only ONE that saw enough ice time to form an educated opinion. As of the rest of them you can't really judge how good a player is by throwing them out there for a couple of shifts in the 3rd period. And if you did see these underclassmen playing don't forget to take into account who suffern was playing… and the one that did play was playing along side of salt, ruthberg, hiller etc.. of course he isn't going to look like a superstar skating with those guys..It is a lot more difficult for an underclassmen to look good (if they actually got to play) against league 1 teams then against league 4 teams. I might lose but I would bet anything that sufferns underclassmen (soph and fresh) could beat almost every league 3 and 4 team. So to sum up this mess of a paragraph.. it is a lot easier for a kid in league 3 or 4 to look like he can play while playing along side and against kids that can't even come close to skating along side sufferns forward and league 1 competition.
Coherently said postman. There were very few freshman logging significant time in L1. How many of them could hold their own against the sections top players: players who were recognized as all state. Not to mention the goaltending in L1. Don't think they would have more than a goal or two in L1. "That's a fact jack."
you know what, maybe they are correct and these kids are better then the underclassmen at suffern or mamaroneck.. but the point is.. you can't compare. I can't even skate but i bet you i can score a goal or 2 and knock a bunch of mites on thier a$$...
OK Postman and TigerVet2- I found a common opponent for Suffern, Mamo and most of the teams for which the kids I refer to play for. Here goes:
Suffern Goal scorers vs. WP:
Ruthberg-3
Salt-2
Hiller-1
Mamo Goal scorers vs. WP:
Connor-2
Glaser-1
Darland-1
The Previously Mentioned Lower League Kids vs WP:
Prunesty- 4
Olivario-3
Dorgan-2
Miller-1
Hagen's ETB team also played WP, but Hagen wasn't there (Gulls practice), I heard.
Not a bad showing for the young guns from the non power leagues.
The Suffern freshman are good, some real good, and more importantly there are a bunch of them.
But there are some out there, even in Rockland, that stand a little more talented.
That said, I'd rather have the quantity that Suff and Mamo put out than the singular superstar.
I would love to see New Ro be competitive again, this is a team that has really fallen off and it would be great if they returned to prominence within the section.
Southeast Westchester could have 5 League one teams (Pelham, Mamo, Rye, RTH and WP) and 3 league 2 teams. (ETB, New Ro and Scarsdale)
Agree with Travel Team on all points. Disagree with TigerVet2 and Postman. These lower league kids I refer to would play a regular shift (first 2 lines) on every League 1 team. No question.
The lower Westchester talent and the number of good teams in the area is impressive. It should be a lot of good hockey and exciting rivalries next season. Probably a lot of these kids played youth together and are quite familiar with each other.
We need some of that mojo on the western banks of the Hudson. I hate to think that sometime in the next couple of years that league 4 will become the all-Rockland league (with the exception of Suffern).
Agreed some and its very few, are great. These teams have only one player. Look at ETB totally destroyed and those high level travel kids could not stop the bleeding. Somers had Maresco, he is good, but Pelham held them in check. Its a team game not a one man show.
It seemed the suffern people started to open their minds after a few posts, but i would like to say one more thing on our behalf. Prunesti had 5 points (without to much help) in our only game against a league 2 team. The Suffern freshman did play with Salt and those other guys and wasn't in the top 100 on maxpreps for points. Yes, Prunesti's points were usually on worse goalies, but he was not the guy scoring our 7th or 8th goals against Nyack. He scores early and will sit the entire third period to let the 4th line play. However, dont underestimate league 4 goalies. Delavregh, Feliu, Heraghty, Fyfe, Glaviano and Lacey are all good goalies that could start for most (not all) League 2 or 3 teams next year. They to face fewer good scorers, but they dont have great the defencemen Suffern and Mamo are used to seeing. The only great defenceman in L4 last year was Halpin and he had to play forward. Just a few things to concider. Sorry to ramble on about it.
I also forgot, we beat ETB. It was a game without Hagan and Macnamara, so i'm not saying we are to much better, i just wanted to correct the person who said we lost to them
It's not all about goals. There are many defenseman out there that do not have many goals but plenty of assist. There are also fowards that have many assist and not many goals that goes unnoticed. there are also the gritty players that draw penalties or block shots that know one on this blog talks about. Anyone can score a goal. But who can make the pretty play or go hard so that the opponent has to take a penalty? not just anyone. Last but not least, watch out for CN, looks like it's going to be a great next season.
who are the freshman on suffern i think there are 5 of them right? and what travel team do they play for?
Knows about hockey, why watch out for CN? great season?
why all the talk about suffern freshman why not wait and see if they can prove themselves on ice.
Jaeger-well, we all know about him
Fuchs-solid defensemen
Baker-forward with alot of skill
Gorton-forward that will get dirty and not afraid to throw his body around
Nicholson-forward that will do fine
All good players. As importantly their are 5 or 6 good 8th graders, 5 or 6 good 7th graders….
Suffern Lines Next Year
1)Hill, Hiller, Jaeger

For the last time. Those are not the lines next year for Suffern. the first line wing is open and Jeager will be on second line with whoever works the hardest out of the rest of the kids. For who will play first line is up for grabs also. But it will not be jeager
Am i the only one that does not care about Sufferns freshman and will just wait til next season to see who goes where and what they actually can do?
To answer your question-you're the only one who doesn't care
Actually i really don't care either
sounds like sufferns freshman have it all.
jaeger- fast, a power forward and works hard
fuchs- offensive defenseman that is very good and also is great defensively
baker- small, but has good hands and speed
gorton- good size, big hitter and grinder which is what suffern needs to replace ojeda
nicholson- great hockey knowledge and is excellent in scoring areas
Going to be exciting 2011 class that im looking forward to!
i deffinetly agree with you they will be exiting to watch. I saw one of their saints games a little while back and they are on a completely different level then the rest of the team besides a few. From what i saw, Baker Gorton and Nicholson play together on the 1st line and Fuchs on defense then Jaeger is on the second line (most likely to generate offense on that line) but baker does have good hands. Gorton must have had at least 4 big hits and always takes the body and he went down and blocked a couple of shots as well, doesnt have as much skill as jaeger or baker but works very hard. Nicholson like what Suffern said in the previous post has very soft hands and is good around the net. Fuchs is very fast and never gets beat, he plays the body very well also. And Jaeger is just a phenominal player, he goes around everyone and he is one of the fastest out there and he uses his strength to get around people, also has good hands.
Is that the same team that was maybe 7-15-4 lower-to-middle pack of the New Jersey Bantam AA standings.
Saw them play, the team looked small for AA and the best player on the team I saw wasn't a Suffern kid.
The Suffern kids are good, but the best tning about them is there are so many of them.
who cares about saints it doesnt mean anything. they are all great players and will help suffern from here on out.
That is fine if you disregard the Saints performance (it wasn't good), but their are are other worthy players who should be considered before freshman are handed play-time.

i am sure the suffern coach will not just "hand " these kids playing if any of them play it is because the coach feels that is the one giving him the best opportunity to win. what i hear is that even though they had a bad saints record they were competitive in every game and they were all close. maybe they just have to "learn to win" that they will get from the suffern coach.
I have heard that mamaronecks Christianson nad Gardiner are very solid freshman…any details?
