Senior all-star game (take two)

March
28

The rescheduled senior all-star game will be tomorrow night at 6 p.m. at the Ice Hutch. The format will be Rockland/Northern Westchester vs. Southern/Central Westchester. Rosters are still being finalized, but I expect it to be a great show, considering how many incredible seniors there were this year. Again, I have no idea who will appear, but how about this hypothetical matchup?

Rockland/N Westchester
F Salt-Ruthberg-Shore
F Dimaggio-Latino-Alfonzetti
D Ojeda-Conklin
G Natoli

C/S Westchester
F Conner-Sigona-Encarnacao
F Eck-Novick-Rogers
D Gordon-Kegan
G McKinney

I know, I know, I left some great kids out. This was just off the top of my head. The point is there are a ton of talented seniors, and this is one last chance to see them. I’m definitely looking forward to it. Plus I just had to cover my first lacrosse game yesterday, and it was actually warmer in the Ice Hutch.

(update Monday 3/31: here were the actual lines)
Rockland/N Westchester
F Zach Salt-Matt Ruthberg-Matt Shore
F Vinny Matranga-Frank Dimaggio-Nick Mucci
F Nick Alfonzetti-Josh Moelis-Jim Arullio
D Andrew Ojeda-Mike Conklin
D Eric Holewinski-Danny Paesano
D Matt Scully-Brian Hawley
G Tom Natoli, Jason Sartorius

C/S Westchester
F Brian Conner-Nick Hardy-Phil Darland
F Phil Sigona-Rui Encarnacao-Brett Novick
F Frank Puzziferri-Tim Corini-Harry Mac Innis
D Matt Seid-Rob Oliverio
D Christian Edge-Mike Messer/Ken Sommer
G Andrew Chase, Mike Cambareri

And here is the link to the story.

  1. League 4

Remember, Marasco is still a Junior. You would never know it looking at him play though.

  2. Charlie Everywhere

Nets-Suns tickets popped up out of nowhere a few days ago, so unfortunately I'll be missing my last chance at seeing these seniors. Anyone know of any spring athletes that can't make it? I would feel better about missing it if half these guys weren't playing.

  3. Get Real

    Charlie Everywhere,

What a LOSER…....Going to a Nets game and bragging about it! Just embarrassing~

  4. Harold Gutmann

    Thanks League 4,
I fixed it. I'll be back with the real lines soon.

  5. Another Suffern Dad

Thanks to all for a great senior game. Coach Chap and all who put it together did a great job. The game was well played and was very competitive with all the kids playing within the guidelines of an all star game. The players had a really fun time playing with their friends from other teams and meeting kids from others. And for an all star game, how exciting was that finish? Well done and thanks to all for a great senior year. Harold, thanks also for your coverage of hockey, and for your being at the game. Have a great season next year everyone. It was a great way to wrap it all up but i kind of realized already how much i miss the games.

  6. fruit fly

your forgetting the other mckinney forward who deserves to be at this senior game more than anyone

  7. fruity fly

deserves to be there more than anyone?

    why?

why does one person deserve to be there more than others?

additionally, hilarious that chaperalli pulled his goalie w less than a min left and put the connerline, who had just come off, back out of the ice, while the other coach continued to roll the lines of whoever else was out there…sad…chaps losing streak is now 2 games

  8. schell schell

schelling hasnt had a two game losing streak in at least half a decade

  9. senior game

fruity fly. Your wrong, the Rui Sigona and Novick line was out on the ice for the last seconds. Conner went on the ice for the pulled goalie. Get your facts strait before you speak

  10. HYSTERICAL FOR SURE

What's even more hilarious is that the Mamo line couldn't do anything and the WP line of Rui/Sigona/Novick (line had 7 points) ran all over the place to the point that the Suffern line was switched to play against them instead of the Mamo line. Gotta love that #9 and 18….they are hot!

  11. PR overtime

It was an exhibition game-no hitting, no corners, no pushing, not much defense, no kidding. They all looked like the wanted to free skate and have fun. So stop spinning your precious. Oh, and by the way-those guys lost. LOL

  12. mamo

ok well lets see, sufferns whole team was at the game while mamo only had 2 kids that played big minutes during the season. i guess that explains it

  13. just ridiculous

Great job bitter White Plains blogger. Constantly and pathetically campaigning for the 2 players on Wp all year. And what did WP accomplish? Nothing, except winning a league 2 title which for a school like WP should not, but is an actual accomplishment. Basically this game is a pick up game for fun, but of course, WP has to come in and brag how good they are in a pick up game. I bet they are great in Phys Ed floor hockey class too, do you wanna brag about that too?
This was WP year to possibly win something substantial, and what did they do? Nothing. Did not even make it to the championship game. So I guess it will be another 25 or 30 years before WP wins a sectional title huh?
To hysterical, Conner has a section championship and all state honors, and section 1 co-MVP, what does the kids from WP have? Oh yeah. To brag about how you shut down conner in a game for fun is sad and pathetic.

  14. lohud

    Harold,

Are there anymore pictures from the Suffern-Mamaroneck championship game? There's only like 6 pictures up… there's gotta be more.

  15. postman

The Long Island Royals won the Junior B national championship over the weekend (Joe Reagan's team). They beat the Northern Cyclones who are also in the MJHL. So I guess all of the people who say the MJHL is a second rate jr. B league really has no idea what they are talking about.

yo when are the lohud all star teams going to be named?

  18. smith

    or journal news rather*

  19. smith

or the journal news all star team rather*

  20. fanotgame

Here are my rankings for next year, assuming everyone comes back (except those already mentioned as leaving for Prep)and the two North forwards return to Section 1 action:

    DI:

    Mamo
    Suffern
    New Ro
    WP
    North
    Pac
    ETB
    PWBV
    RTH

    D II:

    Pelham
    Rye
    Ossining
    SNS
    Jay
    Yorktown
    Brewster
    Pawling
    Fox Lane

  21. Travel Team

Wow..big jump for New Ro, considering that it's not likely that they will even play in league 1.

They are a very good team who were definitely misplaced in league 4 this year.

  22. fanotgame

I was actually trying to do a DI and D II top ten. Missed North Rockland in D I. Put them in between PWBV and RTH. Also missed Pearl River in D II. Put them in between Brewster and Pawling.

And travel team, New Ro almost beat WP in the playoffs. WP graduates 2 of the top scorers in Section 1. New Ro loses a few kids, but not a Rui or Phil.

  23. Rankings

if Willows and Shu come back to North, I'd put North before New Ro and WP

  24. JUST RIDICULOUS YOU ARE

First of all, you are on two different blogs spewing and you are the BITTER one. Fruit fly who is not from WP brought it up and someone else answered. Everyone on this blog campaigned for someone or team, both for the good and the nasty. What's your problem with rui/sigona, you also can't stand that they are good? Why does it bother people to the point of getting so mean and hateful? And they say girls are vicious, is that what you are! Move on.

  25. Get Real

    postman,

IT'S JUNIOR "B". Giveme a BREAK! wITH THEIR RECORD, MAYBE THEY SHOULD OF BEEN PLAYING JUNIOR A, THEN I WOULD OF BEEN IMPRESSED. Also, they played TIER 3. GLorified Midget MAjor Team.

  26. postman

Get Real, if you are an adult I really feel sorry for your kid.. I hope he ends up playing in the NHL.. tough to impress you!!! Or maybe your kid already got cut from one of the teams in that league and you still haven't gotten over it. Don't worry, one day you will be proud of your kid for working at mcdonalds!! lighten up J@CK @SS!!!

  27. sec1fan

Congrats are in order for the LI Royals (Reagan especially) and the Met League. The Royals are a young team by Jr standards so its even a more impressive accomplishment. Many of their players are 1990 or 1991 birth years. No small feat for the Met league either. Out did the Empire Jr league which is usually considered the stronger league.

Playing in this league is a little tougher then playing midget major (other then national tournament).

  28. black tape

surprise surprise, RTH ranked last once again.
    another upset season?

  29. BREAKING NEWS

    http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080331/NEWS02/803310386

  30. fanotgame

If RTH could finish in the middle of league 1 like they did this past year, I would be happy. The more competition the better, I say. Just being a realist. They lost their 4 year goalie and after Urban ( a very good player) their next highest returning point scorer had 8 points this past season. I have been told there is not much coming up from Harrison's modified program this year.

  31. Biff

Postman, down off the ledge and take your meds. Don't let Get Real bring you down. He's just a blogger. Question: Get Real said that the Royals also played Tier III? That implies that they could have played Tier II or Tier I? Are there multiple tiers within Jr. B? Looks like the answer is no. look at this wikipedia article.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junior_ice_hockey

  32. sec1fan

Get Real's tier 3 comment has no merit. Biff is correct about Jr B having no other tiering besides tier 3.

What can be mentioned about the Jr B tournament this year is that the participating leagues have been realigned from year's past. 4 leagues that participated last year were assigned to tier 3 Jr A status for this year. Amazingly, USA hockey now has 6 tier 3 Jr A leagues as compared to none just 2 years ago. 2 Eastern Jr hockey league (EJHL) teams met in the T3 Jr A finals (both undefeated thru semi finals).

For Jr B, only 3 leagues competing for national title. LI Royals being the #1 team out of the 3 leagues is still a very impressive accomplishment.

  33. East of the river

In USA hockey there is Tier 1 Juniors, Tier 2 Juniors and Tier 3 Juniors. Within Tier 3 Juniors there is Junior A (Eastern League), Junior B (Met League and Empire League) and Junior C (Continental League).

So from this perspective there are 3 levels above Junior B. (T3/A, T2 and T1).

Tier 3 / Junior A is as high as it gets locally (Applecore, Junior Bruins etc). Tier 2 and Tier 1 you have to head out west; no Tier 2 or Tier 1 junior programs in the Northeast.

  34. What's Amazing

about juniors in this area (other than Hitmen & Applecore A)is that they are comparable to very strong midget teams, they just charge you alot more. Same problems as midgets: not enough players showing up; just have to travel alot farther to find out you have only 9 skaters.

  35. postman

LOL.. sorry BIFF, just don't have any patience for stupid people lately…when are we going to go and hit em?? Nice weather is around the corner baby!!

  36. postman

the top of every league is similiar to the bottom of the league above it.. so above Midget major is junior B.. so of course the best Midget teams are going to be similiar to the bottom of the junior B teams.. it is like that from mites all the way up.. i bet there are a ton of AAA squirt teams that can beat up on Pee Wee B and A teams.. I don't get why people say that.. there was even an argument a few years ago where people were saying the Miami Hurricanes football team would be competitive with the teams at the bottom of the NFL.. yes of course.. so whats the point.. ????

  37. The Point

is that it's amazing that people around here think that if you put "Junior" in front of any team name that you're actually playing juniors, as opposed to glorified midgets. Except you're paying alot more money and drinking tons of Kool Aid. Juniors – go west young man.

  38. north county

look out for jay. its gonna be between them and pelham again for DII. they got rofosky coming back who had a standout season, greenberg. together they make a great line already. there goalie was surprsingly good next year.
also, i think RTH is way underated. urban is a good player who can put points on the board.

  39. north county

jay and pelham again??? i thought it was rye the last two years

dont see jay going anywhere really, got killed in the playoffs by rye the last 2 years.

  40. brewdogs

    Brewdogs what up
