New feature, and McIndoe update

April
15

Great to see how many people are still on board. As a reward, you get to participate in the first high school sticking poll (see bottom right). Hopefully this is the first of many I’ll have throughout the year.

Don’t forget the league alignments come out in a few weeks, followed by next year’s schedules, so stay with me. Also I’ll be tracking down more out-of-area schedules and keeping up to date with any rumors … like this one.

Chris McIndoe did indeed tear his ACL playing lacrosse, when his foot got caught in the turf. He will miss the travel hockey season, but expects to be back for the high school season. Basically, he is having surgery in mid-May, and the recovery time is about six months, which would put him back in mid-November.

I just got off the phone with him and he seemed in good spirits, although obviously this is a tough blow. He would be one of the top returning players in Section 1, and I’m sure everyone joins me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

Here's wishing Chris M a quick recovery. It took Mamo's Jackson about that long and he made it back to tally that important assist in the Sectional finals. These hockey guys seem to be injury free on the ice and then wreck themselves on other playing fields. Didn't Jackson tear his ACL sliding into home base?

  2. now what?

If McIndoe misses some or most of the season, who will be the new favorite goalie? Glaser, Delaverne, Benicasa, Parra, the new Suffern goalie, one of those viper goalies?
    Let the debate begin again.

  3. Speedy Recovery Mac!

on behalf of all section 1 fans, i think we can all wish McIndoe a healthy and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him return for next year's high school season! Mac you are certainly a CLASS ACT in every way, and a TREMENDOUS goalie. You certainly gave us some thrills this season, and we look forward to seeing you in November!

  4. Mamaroneck Coach

Mac work hard now, keep your knee as strong as you can, listen to your doctor, see you in Novenber, good luck, oh on the ice, Coach Chap

  5. Wishing Chris the best!

Chris, all of us North alumni and parents are wishing you the best and a fast recovery. Hang in there—we are rooting for you!!!

  6. Travel Team

    Have a speedy recovery!

Nice picture with this article. It looks like a european style "Dominick Hasek" goalie mask is being worn. I never played the position but always thought that this was a more sensible mask to wear rather than the more popular mask styles you see today.

  7. masked man

and why would you think that Travel Team? and by the way that is one of the more popular masks worn today that he is wearing. Maybe the goalies should go back to wearing those old style pads as well??

  8. Travel Team

I never tried either style on. It looks like it would give you better peripheral vision, maybe? I readily admit to understanding not much about goalie equipment.

  9. nope

Geez, North without McIndoe would have been the worst team in all of section 1!!! Even with him they lost to Sleepy Hollow (a league 4 team) in sectionals. Without him next year they are a mediocre league 4 team at best.

  10. respect

Question, is there any other player in section 1 that would get his own story if he got injured. Says alot about how good he is. Its not easy to become popular while playing on such a terrible team. One perk that comes with being a goalie is that you can seperate yourself from the rest of your team if you play well and they do not. It is a solo position in a team sport. Its not the toughest position in sports, but it is probably the most dominant position in team sports (assuming your good)

  11. Biff

Chris, you have a lot of fans in Suffern. We will miss you on the Saints this year. I hope you have as speedy a recovery as possible.

  12. postman

I would COMPLETELY disagree with you on the comment on it NOT being the toughest position in sports. I don't know of many other positions that are as tough. One split second "off" and your team just lost. Many players can have several bad shifts and it would hardly be noticed. If a puck hops over their stick, most of the time it won't mean that much. A shortstop commits an error and most likely it won't be the end of the game. A running back drops a pass and it most likely won't end in losing the game (i understand that any of these "could be" the reason for losing but chances are they won't be) But a goalie makes one mistake and it is more likely to cost a team the game then any other position in sports. The difference is, in any of these examples there is only one or two situations in a game (usually towards the end) where these mistakes will cost the team the game, a goalie has this situation 30-40 times a game from the first drop of the puck to the final horn. The only other position i would say is comparable is a pitcher, one mistake could cost the team the game, and this happens from his first pitch to his last, every single time, like a goalies every shot on net.

  13. postman

I would also like to wish chris a speedy recovery and the best of luck getting back for HS season

  14. respect

Postman, you said what i was thinking but interprited it differently. It is the most dominant position in sports and that comes with the most pressure in sports, so if that is what you felt toughest meant you are correct. A pitcher could make a perfect pitch and it can still turn into a homerun, but a goalie has the final say on every shot. When i said toughest, i was thinking about quarterbacks because of all the things they have to think about. What the defence is doing, what your players are doing, were the pressure is coming from, ect. I try not to be too bias. I think a real good goalie is the most important athlete in any sport. But now adays, you can see tall goalies with oversized equipment that butterfly on every shot and can be resonably effective with good defencemen. I dont give them the same respect i give to the athletic and skilled goalies (and the smaller they are the more respect i give them).

  15. Pac Fan

Those of us up here in Mahopac also wish Chris a speedy recovery. No kid should have to go thru this in his soon to be Senior year. See you on the ice Mac.
    Respect.

  16. Howie Weiner

Sleepy/Irvington coach – I echo coach Chaps statements. Our goalie was also injured before this season. Even though he was cleared, we probably gave him too much too soon, the league didn't see what type of goalkeeper he was until the last few games of the season.

Do what the Dr.s say and don't try to be ALL-STATE your first day back on the ice,

Hope your recovery goes well, Section 1 needs you

  17. oscar meyer

I just checked out the season for the Sleepy/Irvington goalie/goalies and you it looks like the league had the opportunity to see what kind of goalie he was throughout the entire season. An 84% save percentage and a gaa of over 4. There are even a few games where he/they had one or two more saves then goals allowed. WOW, what low standards we have. Doesn't look that impressive to me.

And you completely missed the point in an effort to bash someone who was being praised for a great job he did in the last three games of the season, which, by the way, were the most important three games of the season, and the ones Howie was referring to in his post.

Since you posted a link to hi stats, I took a look at them. In the OT Pearl River game they needed to win to make the playoffs, he let up 2 goals on 20 shots. Against CN, he let up 1 goal on 28 shots and against Mahopac, he let up 2 goals on 23 shots. So if you actually read the post, where his coach specifically said "...until the last few games of the season" you would see that in the three games where it counted the most, he had a 1.65 GAA & 93% save percentage. Not too shabby in my book, especially since 2 of the three teams were league 1 teams.

On a side note, I saw two of those three games, and he played extremely well. He looked just as good as McIndoe in the CN game in the first round (and that is not a knock on McIndoe in any way, shape, or form).

  19. Chris's Dad

Chris wanted me to thank everybody for all your kind words. He had his surgery yesterday over at the Hospital for Special Surgery and everything went well. As you can imagine he is in pain but looking forward to beginning his rehab process.

    Biff,

We will miss you guys during the Saints season next fall but we will be around to watch some games and Chris is looking forward to playing against all of his Suffern friends during the HS season.
