New poll

April
25

cele.jpg

Mamaroneck is now officially the favorite to win League 1 next year, receiving 31 votes in our first poll to finish ahead of Suffern (23), Pelham (12) and everyone else (12).

Why not, with two returning Journal News All-Stars in defenseman Sean Hagan and goalie Luke Glaser, five of the top six forwards (first-liners Christian Glaser and Robert Fine and the entire second line of Matt Marr, Joe Naclerio and Brett Jackson), and four of the five defensemen who received significant time against Massena (Hagan, Adam Zweig, Sam Christiansen and Robbie Gardiner).

It always seems easier to play from the role of the underdog, which made Suffern’s streak so incredible, so now we’ll see how the Tigers do as the top dog.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the first poll. There’s a new one up on the right. I’ll be back next week with the 2008-09 league alignments.

  1. Who Cares

Ok….Mamaroneck is number one…..No one cares! Let's talk about a topic that is worth discussing! Empire State Games…

Who's going out and do they have a cahnce to BEAT the West? I think the West has won 6 years in a row.

ANyone from Mamaroneck, Suffern,WhitePlains or any other League one teams?????????

By the way, Does anyone know what colleges the top seniors are going to next year?

Conklin, Ojeda, Eck, Salt, Rodgers, NAtoli, Reagan, McCabe, Novick, Datino, King, McCabe, Connor, Sigona, Rui, etc…...
And are they going to play any level of Hockey ( D3 or Club?)

  2. CHSHL College Update

For the CHSHL update, this is what I have been told!

Reagan/Stepinac: Playing for the NY Bobcats (Juniors)

AJ Datino/Stepinac: Iona College. Hockey ?

    Fusco/Fordam: Scanton University, Club Hockey

    McKenzie/Fordham: Holy Cross, Club Hockey

    McCabe/Iona: Tulane University, Club Hockey

    King/Iona: Boston College, Club Hockey

    S.DiMario/Iona: Northeastern, Club Hockey

Good luck to all, You "ALL" will be missed within the CHSHL!!!!!

  3. Colleges

Conklin is supposedly going to SUNY Canton which will be in division 1 club hockey next year. Kevin Moro of CNorth plays there and Rich Willows of CNorth will be there next year also.

  4. Go to the tape

Suffern always did better in the underdog role. The poor showing of Clarkstown North probably did as much to hurt Suffern as it did to hurt North.

  5. fanotgame

    Sec 1 fan-

Where have all the Pelican forwards gone? Is there any truth to the rumor that Flory is going prep next year? With Clay going back to Taft for next season, it looks like Emerson, Duffy and Rivera will need to step up.

  6. Clay

Clay is at Kent not Taft. Reycraft is at Taft with Rooney and Kiernan.

  7. crush

Mamaroneck being #1 is a no brainer. They return everyone except Brian Conner, they also pick up some excellent players from the JV team who was 16-1, something no other school has (JV). Mamaroneck I predict will lose some games this year, maybe even a real stinker here or there (like this years loss to MW 5-0) but will be in the championship game.
That being said, the championship game will be Mamaroneck vs. Suffern the winner is a coin toss… who knows.
I also predict a lot of dumb smack talk from other teams saying how they can "play with Mamk and suffern, and how they have kids on fancy travel teams… blah blah blah" . It gets boring really, but when it all shakes out, it will be Mamaroneck vs. Suffern and Pelham vs. Rye.
There are no dark horses, those 4 programs have seperated themselves by a lot from the rest of the pack. Not to mention the bitter mental midgets who will continually say things like "so what, are they playing in college?" and "so what, nobody is going to the NHL".

  8. Looks like.....

Cnorth is going to be a team to be reckoned with! With Mcindoe in net, the return of Willows and Shuman , and Kapnick and Cohen, plus some consistent D, and new player coming up! One never knows!

  9. sec1 fan

As for Rumors that Marc Flory is going to prep school, as of now, he is still planning to attend Pelham next year. Clay is at Kent and he played D most of the year, then him and Duffy switched.
1st Line forwards look to be, Emerson, Flory and Duffy, second line is gonna be Rivera, Hernandez and either freshman/Carmadella/Alpert. D-Pairs Mamone and Perrazzio and Harms and Dzenis as of now.
Where did you hear the Flory rumor?

  10. Questionable

    Looks Like….

McIndoe is still a big question mark. Coming back from a torn ACL is hard enough for the average athlete, but it has to be much harder for a hockey goalie. That knee has 20-25lbs of leg pad to toss around. Maybe more when wet. He may be back, but can he be as effective?

  11. ACL!!

it will be a huge accomplishment for mcindoe to come back as the same player he has been the last two years. As of now i think you have to keep CN at the bottom of the section, until we see how he progresses. Without him they will not be any better then they were last year. I don't care who is coming back, even if all 4 of the shuman willows clan came back, they will be nothing without mcindoe.

  12. fanotgame

Sec 1 Fan- heard about Flory thru his travel hockey teammates.

  13. Pelham

Interesting points Sect1fan. I tend to think that since Pelham has always been a strong defensive oriented team that the coach may lean to play Duffy on defense. I thought that was a brilliant move last year as Duffy can move and can skate with most league one forwards. Clay provided some strength up front and I see Hernandez moving in with Flory and Emerson. That keeps the defense real strong as Pelham loves winning those 3-2 one goal games.
I think the young guys coming up will be heard from as well so that second and third line could be up for grabs with Rivera at center on that line. Rivera should have a breakout year. Pelham also has at least one new young defender who will be heard from as well.

  14. OldSchool2

That is double trouble for CN. If McIndoe is not healthy, little Shu may opt not to play HS again. That would leave a line of just Willows on the ice.
    LOL.

  15. pelica

The Pelham modified did not lose a game this year in beating Mamk and suffern. Is it true that their best 3 players are all going to Iona and Fordham?

  16. Pelham

    not true.
I believe one strong forward is headed to Iona and one pretty good player is headed to Fordham. Pelham faces that every year and do just fine. They actually kept a good crop of youngsters. I saw them play a modified game at Brewster this season and they are pretty good

  17. pelica

Yeah, but you would think that if those 2 kids did not leave, it could probably put Pelham over the hump and finally get a run of 3 or 4 championships in D2. While Pelham always does well, they do not have a lot of championships, alot of runner ups… but not a lot of championships.

  18. Pelham

I want to say they have 3? back to back 2005 and 06 and one back in 2000?

Truth they have a bunch of runner ups, but who other than Suffern has more than that?

Rye has two in the last 15 years
Mamaroneck has 2 in Division 1 in the last 8 years, although they won 5 division 2`s
    Fox Lane has 2
and thats it. So Pelham having 3 puts them ahead of all except Suffern

  19. sec1 fan

The defensemen Pelham is talking about had a brother go through Pelham and he played hockey until he decided to focus on football. He is a big kid and could contribute as a freshmen. We could see him play a similar roll that Perazzio played this year, playing when one of the 4 d-men had a conflict or an injury. He is staying in Pelham.
Pelham, are McDermott and Reilly the 2 players headed to private?

  20. Pelham

McDermott and Mac Innis`s little brother. Reilly is at Pelham and doing well in spring hockey when I saw a game earlier this month

  21. Pelham

    Sect1
I think there is another young D player coming up as well. I think he played with Pelham youth team this year but i think he played at Greenwich as a youngster. Either way I think they are probably deep on defense and i think thats the way they like the team structured. Over the years that I have watched them at the jungle they have had their best seasons when they are real defense oriented. When they are in that zone that they like to be in of limiting the opposition to scoring chances they can be tough to beat. Over the years watching them they seem to get bounces and breaks but those are all bounces and breaks they seem to make with that defensive workman attitude. I do nt see them overtaking my Tigers this year but I bet they will give them worries and maybe gain a split on them in the reg season

  22. sec1 fan

McDermott is a big loss, he was a big reason for their success this year, but they also had a great defensive unit this year.
I think offensively they should be fine, Both Emerson and Flory are 2 of the best forwards in the entire section. With hernandez who is always improving (slight hiccup with collar bone) I think that you would have one of the best lines in the section. Throw Duffy either on defense or on the second line with rivera and someone new, thats 2 solid lines and the best defense in the section right there.

  23. Pelham

    Sect1 fan,

Speaking as an opposing fan of your team I believe there is something to the tradition and winning ways of that team. Year in and year out at the end of the day Pelham always gets there. I remember when all section 1 teams were in division 2 except Suffern and Pelham was doing it then to going at Mamaroneck New Ro and White Plains and other huge schools. Pelham always has a way of taking players on the low end of the skill set and getting them to contribute. Watch the pregame warm ups. From my seat at the jungle if I did not know better I would look at warm ups and say Tigers by 5 or 6 goals based on the seeing the Tigers with many more highly skilled players. Pelham to their credit gets some of those lower skilled kids to not only play at that higher level but compete as well.
I think my Tigers will have an enormous season. Without bragging or acting stupid I think the Tigers will win about 22 of the 24 they play. Maybe Pelham is a team that catches them one night who knows

  24. sec1 fan

Pelham usually gets by with a couple great team players who racked up points and lead the team- ie Porcaro in the early 90's, CJ Fredericks (204 Career Points) and then the D'agastino brothers (214 Career points each)and in the past 5 years Furlong, Emmett and now Flory. Then the players who may not be as talented step it up and overachieve and contribute consistently. Defenders aren't the best players, but as a unit they always play well and limit teams offensive opportunities. The perfect example of a Pelham player is Mike Mamone. In terms of pure ability, not the best in the world, but in that Pelham uniform he is one of the best in the section, he does his job, plays his position and now look, he's all league. The same can be said for his older brother, who I believe was all state.

  25. ACHA

    Sec 1 fan

Porcaro wow! that is going back to the days Pelham played at Rye. He was one of the leagues all-time great true passers. Emmett also very underated, he had a great season this year with Towson State. One of Towson's few bright spots, to a glorious D. 1 club program which has had a couple poor years in a row now.
