Mamaroneck, minus six suspended players, responded to some adversity and showed some serious depth on Saturday with a 7-2 win over Mahopac. Scott Hagan and Joe Naclario each had two goals and one assist and Dean Chiapparelli had four assists. Both teams are now .500 in League 1, with Mamaroneck 2-2 and Mahopac 1-1.
Speaking of the Tigers, for those who missed it yesterday Mamaroneck defenseman Sean Hagen was named the Con Ed Scholar-Athlete Award winner. Here is the story.
E/T/B was also depleted yesterday (star Alex Hagen had a travel commitment?), but it didn’t turn out so well for them. North Rockland had 13 players record points in an 11-3 win that puts it solidly into the No. 2 spot in League 2. In the only other score reported to us yesterday, League 4 Pearl River scored in the third period to clinch an impressive tie against League 3 Clarkstown South. And some trustworthy sources on the blog reported that Queensbury defeated Rye 6-5. There were so many penalties that it’s hard to project what would happen in a state tournament game, but I’m sure both teams have reason to be confident in a rematch.
It doesn’t sound like the weather will cooperate, but there are seven games scheduled for today, starting with Pelham-Queensbury. We should be at Mahopac-White Plains. The Indians have a tough turnaround after playing Mamaroneck last night, while the Tigers could be a surprising 5-1 in the league with a win.
Is it too early to worry about postseason eligibility? Probably, but Fox Lane (1-5) could definitely use a win when it plays Clarkstown South. There’s some interesting non-league matchups as Pawling goes up to face Brewster, and Lakeland/Panas moves up to meet Byram Hills. Also, Mount Pleasant and Scarsdale should have a competitive League 2 game, and Kennedy/PV can turn its season around with a win over League 4 favorite Sleepy Hollow/Irvington.

Harold, what do you think of Somers this year?
HAROLD,
Last season Cody King (Boston College), Zach Salt (University of Michigan), Brian Conner (Miami? Iona? ??)and Matt Shore (University of Virginia) won the Journal News Scholar athlete awards…
Actually Harold, last year, Brian Conner was named Con Ed Winner. Interesting that two Mamaroneck Hockey players were named recipients…
result of the CN-Mount Pleasant game????
CN 13 Mt. Pleasant 3
Scholar Athlete,
Thanks I fixed the post. Forgot how many great student-athletes there were last year. Anyone have any other good candidates this year?
Andrew Emerson.
3 sport athlete. One of the best golfers in the state, one of the best forwards in the section, pretty good midfielder. Attending Middlebury next year. 10th in his class. 96 GPA.
Mamaroneck back on track for what? Tell them to beat one of the top teams and then we can talk!
How tough could Mahopac be when Mamaroneck was missing 6 players. Mahopac should be be in League 2, maybe even in League 3!
Anybody know what time and where is the Pelham-Queensbury game today
Went into the ACHA website to see how past Con Ed award winners from last year are making out.
If you look at Shore, Salt (All-County), Connor (All County) and King (All County), who combined for 222 points in their senior year, they only have 16 points (combined) in Club Hockey.
Looks like King, is doing the best so far with 13 points in 13 games ( 8 goals and 5 assists). Shore and Salt are playing in only half their games and I don’t think Connor is playing any longer.
I’m simply amased that two of the players mentioned above are only suiting up for half their games. Looks like club hockey is more competitive than I thought.
Does anyone know if Connor is playing anywhere? or did he give up hockey?
Scott, 12:30 @ the ice hutch in mount vernon.
Anyone know how many of Mamo’s 6 suspended players will be back for the Pelham game on Tuesday?
He transferred to Iona for personal reasons.
Really doesn’t matter. Mamaroneck is going to get beat. Pelham will win 5 to 1!
Mamaroneck can’t beat good teams!

Somers/NS-5 Yorktown-3
late game last night
Sleepy Hollow/Irvington-JFK/Putnam Valley is canccelled for today.
Hey Club hockey,
Thanks for that link on Club Hockey. It makes alot of sense. Now I understand why are our senior stars from last year might be only playing on half their games.
So again…. fight breaks out. Kids ejected for fighting and only one game suspensions. Here is my prediction. There will be a minor tiny pushing match in a game in the next few weeks… a ref will throw kids out for pushing and call it a fight and they will get four games. It will be a “the rules are the rules” and other kids will penalized more for the fact that these guys got off easy.
Watching the talent level in Section 1 slowly erode over the past few years can only lead one to believe that the economics of the world have finally hit home. Parents are realizing that the sport is just too damn expensive with the cost of travel (lower and upper level teams), hotels, food, gas, equipment and so on. Add to that, parents are finally waking up to the fact that there is no “payback” on the back end, meaning no $$$$ for college for hockey guys no matter how good you are in this section. Maybe the prep guys are getting some $$$ to attend Kent/Exeter/Trinity…. but thats about it.
I’m thinking that parents are focusing on soccer/lax/track/swimming or any other sports that are less expensive….not that these arent but certainly less than buying new sticks and skates every other month!
With that said, teams like Suffern, Mamaroneck, Pelham and CN and White Plains who have rinks and programs designed to feed the varsity teams will totally dominate this sport this year and years to come. Teams like Yorktown, Brewster, Mahopac, JJ, Somers and the others have no chance to continue keeping up with the guys who have the feeders. Modified isn’t the answer either no matter how many great 7th graders you have in your “system”.
This isn’t a knock on any team, its just what looks like to me like a total downturn in the talent pool here.
You can name 1 or 2 guys in each team who “have it” where years ago, every team had a ton of guys that were upper level travel guys and the competition was incredible…now…well…
Just my 2 cents.
Thoughts?
White plains game cancelled for today due to weather
Scarsdale – MT. Pleasant game cancelled.
I still would like to know about the suspensions from Mamaroneck and the hockey team. Did they do the right thing or does Hockey win out. Need to send a STRONG message to these players and all players in the future!
Any scores on Pelham Queensbury yet?
Classy move by Harold to not focus on, well….you know….
2 to 1 queensbry at the end of the 2nd. The game is getting a little physical
score update on Pelham Queendbry?
Queensbury 3 Pelham 2. It was tied with a minute left until a pelham defenseman messed up a clear and the queensbury player grabbed it out of the air and scored on the breakaway.
2 goals for Flory.
all mamaroneck kids will be back Tuesday
They could have played the WP/Pac game today. I just drove 45 minutes to a travel game and the roads are okay. the sun is shining. unless they make up the game monday, then the 2 wp kids who got game misconducts against mamo will be out against suffern. btw, the suffern/wp game is Tuesday at 3:30pm at sporto.
the roads are clear and the sun is out… who honestly called off these games
pelham vs queensbury update?
who won the game this morning?
wow
I just got back from shopping near the Ice Hutch and the highways and locals were fine. I think for schools using buses, the schools are probably afraid of the legal issue of a potential accident. I know Scarsdale could have definitely played their game.
mama,
SO what you’re telling us is that those kids who were smoking pot and the kids who got caugt stealing…... GET A ONE GAME SUSPENSION! Quess the coach got his way after all.
Congrat’s to Mamaroneck High School and their coach for showing all of us What’s important to them!
give me a break,
the players were suspended two games because they did not play in the white Plains game either
Hockey Fan,
OH! That’s alot better. A two game suspension. Are you kidding me. Those kids should NEVER see the ice for the remaining part of the season.
What’s wrong with the school, the coach and the parents? WHAT A JOKE!
Get Real needs to get a life
who won the pelham queensbury game? how did pelham look in it?
Queensbury 3 Pelham 2
Pelham the better team in the 1st period, QB the better team in the 2nd and they were even in the 3rd. 2 very equal teams, a turnover by a Pelham defenseman with 1 minute left gave QB the winning goal.
Queensbury 3 Pelham 2. it was 2-2 with a minute left when a pelham player tried to sauce it out of the zone and the kid picked it off with his hand and scored on the breakaway.
After 1 pelham up 1-0, after 2 they were down 2-1. Flory had both goals.
Pelham had some trouble clearing their zone, Queensbury’s forecheck was excellent. Pelham was more physical than queensbury, with the exception of one hit where 14 and 10 sandwiched pelham’s #2. 10 got the worst of it and collapsed on the ice and the game had to be postponed.
The Mamaroneck players were suspended immediately after the incident, so they also missed the Liverpool game. I think they might also be suspended for the next upstate tournament.
Thought of the day…
I think the level of play is about where it usually is. Part of the perception problem are the way the leagues were formed this year.
League 1 woud be stronger with CN. Remove either John Jay or RTH.
League 2 – Very uneven this year. The next level of teams should be North Rockland, ETB (with all their players). New Rochelle, Ossining, Pawling, JJ or RTH, and Sleepy Hollow would be make a stronger league 2
League 3 – Clarkstown South, Somers, Fox Lane, Lakeland, Scarsdale, Yorktown, Mt. Pleasant
League 4 – Byram Hills, Brewster, Carmel, JFK, N/TZ, Horace Greeley
Not perfect, but I particulary believe that league 2 is the worst put together. Most of the current league 2 teams are either to strong (CN) or to weak (take your pick).
hey guys
to clear things up, thoes 4 Mamk kids got a week suspension from school and 5 game suspension from hky… after the next upstate tourny they will be allowed to play again.
Good effort Pelham. Interesting that both downstate teams were able to take the early lead, but ended up chasing from behind. Rye will try to get them on Friday up at Rome. I agree the Spartans have a super forecheck. And yes, Queensbury plays more of a skating game than a physical checking game. Also, they may have been a bit gun shy from all the penalties called in the Rye game. In speaking with the Queensbury parents, they are one of five DII schools in their section and the clear favorite. So, if one of Pelham and Rye end up representing Section One, it will be a hotly contested, winnable quaterfinal.
thats good that the mamk kids are suspended till after the upstate tournament, cause i read earlier that they could play tuesday against pelham, and if that was true, that’s some message the hockey program is sending out: you got caught shoplifting and smoking pot (which in any other town would screw you over for a good part if not all of the season), but since we’re playing pelham, we need you guys to play tuesday…
does anyone agree with me that Suffern has a huge edge over CN this year? All this talk about CN being so good and ranked better and they have a better first line…but what about their 2nd line? and their 3rd? I’ve seen both teams play and from a spectators point of view i would have to say CN’s 2nd and 3rd lines are horrible compared to Suffern’s 2nd and 3rd lines. If Hill and Hiller can hold willows and shuman back then suffern can rely on scoring from their 2nd line. It makes sense if you think about it…hill and hiller play defensively and eventually willows and shuman run out of gas…they cant skate full speed for 3 periods against suffern. Especially when CN’s defense is not their strong point, willows and shuman will have to be back checking the whole time…that’s pretty tiring.
Yes, it was two good ames for the Spartans. I felt Pelham played the SPartans tougher and held down a pretty good offense off today. The three goals theSPartans scored can off errors two were unforced erros and the Spartans capitalized. The Rye game the Spartans had more control the game today could have bounced either way. Good hockey near NYC today
Yes two good games for the Spartans this weekend. I felt Pelham played much stronger against the Spartans. Pelham was at least for today able to hold off a very good offense. Rye played good Pelham was a tougher game. Todays game had a quicker pace to it and could have bounced the W to either team today. Pelham made two unforced errors that the Spartans capitalized on that was the difference today. Good hockey down by NYC today
Reorganized leagues:
If we were to do the leagues again
League 1 – Suffern, Pelham, WP, Rye, Mamo, CN (from L2), JJ, Mahopac
League 2 – North Rockland, ETB, RTH (from L1), New Rochelle (from L3), Ossining (from L3), SH/I (from L4), Scarsdale
League 3 – Pawling, Somers, Fox Lane, Mt. Pleasant (from L2), Brewster (from L2), Yorktown (from L2), Lakeland (from L4)
League 4 – Byram Hills (from league 3), Clarkstown South (from league 4), Pearl River, Carmel, JFK, N/TZ, Horace Greeley.
I think league 2 the way it is now is the most uncompetitive. CN is way to strong for that league, even more so than WP last year, and Mt. Pleasant, Brewster, Yorktown and ETB without there stars are not strong enough for a league 2 seeding.
Suffern should be the favorite over CN. Suffern won 2 years ago against the Willow and Shuman brothers.
Suffern has more forward and defensive depth. Macindoe has the edge at goal, can Gabriel have the huge games Natoli had 2 and 3 years ago?
Should be fun to watch because Willows and Shuman are scary to stop. No unknowns here. These Suffern and CN kids have been playing with and against each other since mite hockey.
Coach Chap could have sent a huge message to his entire team and to section one hockey players by suspending the players for the rest of the season. But… since one of them was his kid he chose to not to do the right thing. Not one of these kids are going to play division one college hockey, let alone the NHL! Coach, you are not only teaching these young men only about hockey, but most importantly what it means to have character and integrity! Sorry, but I feel the administration and the coach fell far short!
Suffern1,
I agree with you 100%. But I don’t think his son was one of the players because against Mahopac the other day, his son had 4 assists.
If his son was one of the players, then why would he be allowed to play? And if he was allowed to play then there’s a bigger problem which would have to be dealt with with the School administration.
The Tiger administration had a big opportunity to do the right thing. They passed on it and thats sad
but how about the fighting suspensions… they got one game for the fight.. I thought it was an automatic 4 games suspension for fighting
I would expect nothing but the same if this happened with Suffern players. As a matter of fact, if my kid did any of that nosense the coach wouldn’t have to make the call. MY KID WOULD NOT BE PLAYING!
rule?,
Fighting rule doesn’t apply to Mamaroneck or White Plains!
Suffern1,
Absolutley! MY SON WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY EITHER! But I guess Mamaroneck parent’s priorities ara a little different then others! Must be DRINKING some Kool-Aid!
Willows and Shuman do not run out of gas… they would play the whole game if it were their choice.
as far as Suffern having the edge over CN with depth (2nd & 3rd lines) – i kind of agreed at first, but then, its funny, if you think about it, CN’s 2nd line really has more Varsity playing experience than Suffern’s 2nd line – given the fact that CN’s 2nd line was basically their first line last year. It looks like the top players on last year’s CN team all benefitted from playing against that fierce League 1 competition last year. Here are the other top CN forwards’ stats (besides willows and shuman):
Kapnick – 8 goals, 9 assists
Cohen – 6 goals, 8 assists
Vela – 2 goals, 7 assists
Lee – 5 assists
so clearly CN has a dangerous 2nd line as well, and could probably match up evenly with Suffern’s 2nd line (or may be better than Suffern’s 2nd line?). so the depth issue might not be an argument after all.
Wow, upstate fans and upstate, how thoughtful of you to look up this blog and post kudos to Pelham before getting in your car for the long trip home. And your prose is so similar and posts only 5 minutes apart. Do you have a second home in Pelham? LOL
CN- Although they had experience- they were terrible. God-Awful. I watched them play last year and it was painful.
They guy probably has a blackberry, and his posts are 5 minutes apart because he thought the first one didn’t go through, so he retyped it, and then the other one went through.
everyone has a blackberry these days. We follow section 1 hockey closely for the regional draw. Its not against the law for us to do that is it? kudos to Pelham? not hardly, they just gave Queensbury a better game thats all. I will ask your permission before I come on again
I guess it helps that the Pelham coach got to watch the Rye game vs Queensbury and then hold practice to implement everything he saw. Must be nice to be the coach of a team that plays out of the rink you manage.
How would the Coach from Pelham handled the Mamaroneck situations?
Been reading this blog on and off since last season, first time writing, but to be honest needed to speak my mind.
First off everyone has a right on a blog to express their opinion, most are insightful, humorous and informative and actually a good read, others have the sole purpose to criticize players and teams.
Some blogger are saying that kids be suspended and coaches to be fired and that school administrators are dropping the ball…. What gives you the right to demand the punishment? It’s not your call. I am sure the coach, school district and the parents are embarrassed, not to mention the student athletes, I am sure there has been some pennants and these kids won’t be let off scot-free, but it’s not up to you to be the judge and jury.
All kids (and adults) make mistakes in their lives, some are not sound decision, we all have done things we regret, I am sure this won’t happen again, and you need to give them the chance to redeem themselves. Kids in HS sports have 2 years average on the Varsity level; it’s usually the time of your life, to say they should be suspended, kicked off the team, and remove their coach would make a more negative situation.
To comment on the fighting part, a half dozen bloggers who were at the game have stated there was no fight, or not a battle royal which was my first impression, mostly pushing and shoving. This is hockey, it’s a tough contact sport, and there will be contact when you have two competitive teams trying to make a statement to the league, instead of stating what a great game it was by both teams, you’re at it again looking to persecute. For as long as I can remember, Mamaroneck players are known for their toughness, just like Suffern is known for their finesse hockey, Pelham is known for their discipline, and White Plains is known for their spunk they are products of their program, which hasn’t changed in 20 years, you can expect these traits when these teams meet. When Mamaroneck and White Plains meet in any sport there is a rivalry where you can expect things to get physical.
Final thoughts, worry about your son, your coach and your district, let them hand out the punishments.
Let the best team win the sectionals and lets all root for Section 1 thereafter.
Suffern did not defeat the dominate Willows and Shuman brothers 2 years ago – Natoli did. If you were at thoses games you saw that CN was clearly the better team but could not beat the outstanding Suffern goalie. If you watched CN play last year obviously they were very weak on talent but if you look at the scores of their league games they were all very close. That CN team was down to about 10 players last and still rarely got blown out – even the 2nd suffern game was close after 2 periods.
CN now has many new additions: Kapnick, A Willows, besides Willows and Shuman.
The bigggest Fatcor (as it was in the past) in any championship is usually the goalie and that advantage clearly goes to CN with McIndoe.
Kapnick isn’t a new addition – he was on the team last year, but was injured all last season – good to see him back. Good to see Alex Willows back on the team too – adds more travel experience depth
JUST WONDERING… whos your thoughts on who will play and win the 2009 section champ. in west point??!?
This will be a great game that I can not wait to see it!
1. We will officially know if CN is legit – if they dominate CN the way the have manhandle their league they will have to be the favorite to take the section
2. Interesting side note: Dave Lynch is the WP asst. He was the head coach at cn last year and was with the program many years before that. I wonder how he feals watching his old team dominate section 1 this year. He was very tough and demanding on his players last year and while his no nonsense attitude and tough scheduling might not have been popular with parents it looks like it is paying dividends this year.
3. CN will win if Willows can dominate and Mcindoe can shut down a very good WP offense.
4. WP will if their offense can penetrate Mcindoe and their defense and goalie can keep Willows and check – they must stay out of the penalty box.
if Kapnick did not play last year that would mean he is a new addition this year. Does anyone else now who the other new CN players are and where did they come from?
Suffern is SCARED!!!
Last time I checked Tom Natoli was our goalie and part of the TEAM. McIndoe is a very solid goalie, but I believe he was the same goalie that let in 4 goals during that sectional championship. Yes 4 goals, one was nullified on a bad call. McIndoe will tell you it was in as well. Your assuming that there is a huge drop off in our goaltending. You keep thinking that and tell the CN players while your at it.
Jay Bird truly a needed post its about time
The other CN players are kids that are seniors that played modified, then never chose to play Varsity( this year they decided to give it a shot since they have extra time being seniors). They definitely aren’t superstars but they add alot of depth and size to the team on defense
MCindoe was a small and inexperienced sophomore back then and is now one of the best goalies state. CN was the better team – they outplayed and always outshot them by a at least 10
15 shots. Switch goalies and CN easily wins those games. Why wont Suffern and CN play this year. I heard Suffern is still trying to schedule a game with ionaforget them and schedule CN unless suffern is SCARED!Jaybird
I’ll agree to disagree. Stealing and smoking pot when your traveling with your HIGH school team are not little mistakes. You represent your team, school and the section you play in. I believe every HS sport should make each student athlete sign an agreement on one’s conduct and behavior. This way they know the results of their actions.Obviously, this is not the case at every school.
Just read the most illogical post I have ever read. Qualify me first as a league 2 fan. The post where it suggests the Pelham coach watched Queensbury Rye play and gained some advantage. How illogical. Scarsdale and New ROchelle practice at the same rink. Mahopac Fox Lane North Salem Brewster probably all see each other in practice. The private schools Iona Fordham Stepinac all play each other quite a bit. by the way Ryes home rink is Playland right? They could have played the game there right? Why was it at Pelhams rink? So a coach sees a team play one time and they can create a strategy? Its not football.
The problem as I see it is that it appears to be a lapse of control of teen age boys. Loss of control off school property. Thats dangerous. It must be quite a task to take a team away into a hotel and watch them. The coach cannot lock all the players in one room and watch them thewhole time. Thats why its important to really come down hard on the offenders as other players will watch and see what the risk reward status is
Suffern1,I agree with you, Stealing and Smoking may not be viewed to some as a “little mistake’ which is your right to have an opinion, my point is that its the districts decision with their coach to rule upon the punishment. Recently stated above they got a weeks suspension from school and 5 games for hockey, is that enough? who knows what the protocol is when this happens the administration came up with, they did the right thing they made the kids accountable for their actions. plus If I were one of those kids in the same circumstances I would be more scared to face my parents and trust me I cant see their coach being happy about it. Coach Chap is a tough old school coach to play for, he has high expectations for his kids and for all the sports he coaches. Trust me these kids aren’t getting the platinum treatment from him right now.
Let them
High school sports/coaches are more than just an athletic experience. sports teach kids about character and toughness, and coaches play the role models. however, the mamk kids and coach obviously didn’t get that memo. their decision is this: sports and winning > teaching a lesson by fully punishing the kids for legitimate crimes. way to teach life lessons mamaronek. also, were are the parents in this, as previously posts have pointed out?
Suffern is SCARED!!!
McIndoe is the same size. Im sure he has more weight to him,but he does not take up anymore of the net. Its not Suffern’s fault that some players left which resulted in CN having such a bad season that they had to be moved down. As for a game, generally the schedule is made far in advanced. With that all stated I am rooting for CN and Suffern to be there in the end. Long way to go though.
after playing travel with the majority of the top players in rockland right now, I’d have to say that CN definitely has the strongest goalie along with two of the most dangerous forwards in the section. However that isn’t going to be enough to beat suffern. After years of only having 1 1/2 good solid lines, suffern seems to finally have a deep team that. If they had Natoli this year, I would say that a state championship would be almost guaranteed. This years players from rockland are extremely good, O’Connor, Hiller, Hill, Schuman, Willows, and McCarron are all some of the top players in the section and I hope they do great things this season.
Hey JayBird,
You sound like your the coach! This was not a LITTLE MISTAKE! The coach took his team to this tournament and they screwed up!
These problems for Mamaroneck didn’t just happen last week. If you were reading the blogs on and off for the past two years, you would knbow that problems on this team have been taking place for years and I think people looked the other way~. These new problems made the paper and the team, the players and the school should be embarrassed!Let’s face it, if the coach really cared for his program and his other players, ALL FOUR OF THOSE KIDS WOULD BE KICKED OFF THE TEAM.
i mean i understand that these kid made a BIG mistake and if parents are complaining that the school didn’t do anything, then why dont they do something? it’s your kid and if you think the school wasn’t harsh enough then take it upon yourself to teach your kid a lesson and don’t expect anyone else too.
First off, I am not a Mamo fan. It must be easy to see the world in black and white. This way you never have to actually think deeply about a problem. Who are any of you to judge whether the mamo school/team punishment is the right punishment. These kids and their parents have been humiliated on this blog and in the JN, they have been suspended from school, they have been suspended from games. Are you really afraid that your little junior is going to say to himself, “look Mom and Dad, there are really no consequences to smoking pot or stealing on a trip so I am going to make sure I do that next time.” and does banning them completely from their team or from school really help them? take away the positives in their life and they may go downhill fast. but I am sure you don’t care what happens to them. there are plenty of great stories of people who made real good after making a mistake, paying a price and then getting a 2nd chance. check out Josh Hamilton’s story. would it have been better to ban him for life?
Once again I was at the game and THERE was NO fight.
These players are getting off real easy.
Just a quick question? If someone gets caught stealing and someone gets caught smoking in a Hotel that has a NO SMOKING PLOICY, then does anyone know what the worst penalty could be. For instance, I know if you Steal, and depending on the amount that one steals then you could go to jail! But if you get caught smoking in a hotel, I assume that you could get a hefty fine?
You are not going to jail for stealing some stuff at a local convenient store, and all that happens for smoking in a non smoking room is you pay a fee to have it cleaned. You all need to lighten up!!! “Jail and hefty fines” are you insane???
agree with “losers”. do you think our courts and prosecutors have nothing better to do with their time than try to imprison a pot smoker or someone who commits petty theft? pot has been decriminalized in lots of areas, so unless you have a substantial amount (intent to sell), you basically get an appearance ticket and pay a fine. For petty theft, if you are a first time offender, again, you would pay a fine and be told stay out of trouble for 6 months or a year and this will go away. I am glad some of you losers are not judges. our taxes would be sky high with all the ks kids you would have locked up.
Big game tomorrow night! Mamk vs. my mighty pelicans. any predictions?
Regarding Mamaroneck- I do not know the circumstances around theplayers so I will not comment. What I do know from my involvement in Youth Hockey in our Area is that Chap is a proffesional and he has the bigger picture in mind when his boys hit the ice or when they are under his control. I know him to have the students interest in mind for the long haul not just hockey. I also do not believe the Police upstate would cut anyone slack just because the coach interviened. I suggest that the problem was handled in the best manner under the circumstances of what was done. People can say what they want but anyone not having been there can only speculate.
In the end its the job of a parent to correct their childrens behavior.
I do not live in Mamaroneck/Larchmont so I have not reason to support anyone in the matter.
Regarding Ed Witz viewing other teams again Ed is the uttmost proffesional and I bet a fan of the game. A coach has the right to view teams he will face. I am sure with or without he will still know how to play his team as the system he plays will outweigh anything he might have seen.
In the end the players need to get it done, work hard and execute. Those of you bashing Chap and Witz are out of line these guys step up year after year for the benefit of their players and the game.
Why does it seem that The Mamaroneck family is taking this topic very lightly and everyone else thinks it’s a mistake to let these kids get off with a slap on the wrist?
I don’t think anyone is taking it lightly. Just some (and not only mamo people)oppose the lynch mob mentality and the extremely harsh punishment proposed by some (jail, kicked off the team for good). My son plays hockey and he would never look at this as “wow, look how easy these kids got off, maybe I should go do that”. if you are afraid your kid will do that, then you have big problems. and if you are not worried about that, then let the school and the parents deal with it privately. maybe they feel that keeping these kids in school and on a team (after a certain amount of punishment) is a better result than just kicking them to the street.
Does anyone know where the bowling blog is?
Coach Witz didn’t set up the schedule so he could scout Queensbury. The original schedule at the rink he manages was for Pelham to play the visitors Friday nite and Rye play them on Saturday afternoon. Due to snow, the Friday nite game was moved to Sunday afternoon. Thanks to Queensbury for coming down in iffy weather and giving us downstaters some great action to watch/participate in. Hope one of us (Rye/Pelham) sees you guys at your rink in early March for a trip to Utica on the line.
i really cant stand all this talk about the suspended players
if you all look at your own teams, you WILL find kids on your own teams that do the same thing
The difference is that they havent been stupid enough to get caught
The Suffern/WP game is rescheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday 12/23) at 4:15 at SOR.
Also, Lakeland/Panas vs. Brewster has been rescheduled for tonight at 8:55 at Brewtser.
anyone have any predictions on the RTH vs. North Rockland game tonight?
??,
The problem is that Mamaroneck has had these problems for years. Nothing was done about it then and now it looks like nothing is being done again.
Imagine trying to play at Ebersole on a day like today?....BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Why does ETB coach allow players to miss high school games for travel games? It’s the same thing every year with these kids and even if it was during the playoffs the kids would still miss. What’s the point?
I’ve played at Ebersole on days like this and that was before the roof was put on. Those are the games where you really don’t want to come off the ice because the moment you sit down on the bench you start to get really cold. It takes your toes about an hour to fully warm up after the game and it stings like hell.
Yes, North Rockland will win. RTH has lost its heart and does not have any talent. Including the one kid that everybody says is so great. He has did nothing against us.
Perfect post fanotgame,
Exactly. Pelham and Rye coaches apparently are friendly and set up Pelham and Rye against Queensbury and Glens Falls for this weekend. Glens Falls and Queensbury are the two favored teams to come out of Section 2 and they would face the division 2 winner from Section 1. Glens Falls jumped out early on and Pelham and Rye were scrambling to get another team to take the spot to make it a two game weekend. The spot never got filled. The Pelham coach offered up tp host all the games as this was scheduled before Rye could get their ice hooked up at Playland. These two coaches were working together to help each other even though they are rivals and battling for the same thing. Pelham was supposed to play Queensbury on Friday night before Rye played them so that other post is so far off its silly. Good to see these guys can work closely together
brrr, ON channel 405 they often air HS hockey games from Minnesota. Last year there was a game on at an outdoor rink when it was 15 below zero. The stands were packed!! and many wonder why the kids in this area can’t compete at a higher level. Where do you think the kids in canada learn to play? It is hockey, it is supposed to be cold!!!!!
Give Ed Witz lemons and he makes lemonade.
There should be a section wide rule (or county or state etc.) like there is in CT. There, you either play high school or travel. Not both. It would be fine to allow both if ALL HS coaches are on the same page. Otherwise, School teams are definitely put at either a distinct advantage or disadvantage depending on what their coach’s policy is. Meaning there are definitely HS coaches who either allow travel players to miss HS for travel games and tournaments or they don’t. The schools that don’t allow it are are made weaker, and the teams that do allow it are made stronger. Inequity here. Rule should be made one way or the other for ALL TEAMS. Just my 2 cents
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile? Answer: Ed Witz
Who won the John Jay vs Wilton HS game? Anyone know?
Ed Witz dosen’t just give kids fish to eat for the day. He teaches them to fish so they can eat for life.
North Rockland vs. RTH
This is in theory is a step-up competition wise for North Rockland. Their wins are over Brewster, O’Neil and ETB without their big players. They also split 2 games in an upstate tournament.
O’Connor and Meany are 2 of the best in section 1 and they are supplemented by a decent supporting cast.
3-1 North Rockland win.
interesting matchup between North Rockland and Rye Town. I too think North Rockland will take this one…
if the parents at mamo are aware of the situation, which i am sure alot of them are, then they are as much to blame as the kids, and i am sure some of them ARE
CN should play the top CHSHL team and actually test their skills. i played agaisnt matt willows when he was on the colonials nothing out of the ordinary in travel hockey
I dont know why anyone thinks WP vs. CN would be a good game. WP scrimmaged CN with Willows in the stands. Although WP took an early lead CN was able to score several goals quickly and win. Bottom line, if CN played WP it would be a blowout.
Additionally, North won a WP tournament, playing in a bracket that the WP people stacked. I guess the plan was for WP to cruise to the championship game. As we all know that didnt work out
There is no control button on Ed Witz’s computer keyboard, because Ed Witz is always in control..
Yes definitly, if my kid did something like that on a trip I sure as heck would not let him play hockey again for the rest of the season. the administration did not stand strongly on this one….. As for the Queensbury -Pelham game. It was a good battle and it came down to a bad turnover at the end. The Pelham defensemen should not have been left alone like that and it wound up in an attempted dump which resulted in a goal. Queensbury is a strong team and will probably see Pelham again
OMG – Did I read that correctly? Mamaroneck was short 6 players and still beat Mahopac. Maybe Mahopac does not belong in section 1 – and for the parents of both teams, it is a waste of time seeing so many one sided games (I think Mahopac only won 2 league last year).
The talent pool for Mahopac has been on a decline for some time. There are very strong and competitive travel teams in the area that attract the serious players. In addition to that, the losing record and poor coaching has chased potential stars away from the program. Maybe they should change the leadership of that team and get Mahopac back on track. – I heard the coach is awful & at games, is a real hot head yelling and screaming. Who would want to play in that environment ?
