Mahopac outlasts Lakeland/Panas 6-5 in OT

February
25

Dillon Savitzky scored his second goal of the season with just 27 seconds left in regulation, and teammate Tyler Perrelle, Mahopac’s all-time leading scorer, scored 6:42 into overtime as the Indians defeated Lakeland/Panas 6-5 tonight in a sectional quarterfinal at Brewster Ice Arena.

Chris Mastrocola had three goals and two assists for the fourth seed, who will face No. 1 Mamaroneck tomorrow night at Hommocks in the semifinals. Robert Cafferey and Nicky Belger each had two goals and an assist for No. 12 Lakeland/Panas.

Down 4-2 to start the third period, Belger’s unassisted power play goal tied the game with 6:19 left, and Belger scored again just 10 seconds later to give the Rebels the lead.

Perrelle was in the penalty box during the comeback, serving an 11 1/2-minutes worth of penalties for boarding and misconduct. His unassisted goal in overtime came after a Lakeland/Panas defenseman threw the puck at his own net, and the senior pounced on the loose puck.

“Sitting there was horrible,” the senior said. “They’re one of those hard-working teams that kept coming at us. It was scary at that point, but we held strong and came up big. We didn’t want it to be the end of our season and we did all we could.”

The Rebels, a League 4 team with only one senior, outshot League 1 Mahopac 48-32.

“Lakeland took the play to us,” Indians coach Steve Tuite said. “I feel bad for them because they played extremely hard, and they really deserved it.”

  1. questionable call

perelle was sent off the ice in the 2nd for having blood on his jersey (number 4) only to return wearing number 2 a few shifts latter then after 2nd intermission the player who orignally wore number 2 had it on and perelle had his number 4…..obvisouly this is not allowed how did the refs let this happen? you can’t make changes to the roster mid game like that??????.......can you?

  2. wptigerhockey

wow, i would feel disgraced as a pac player…“Lakeland took the play to us,” Indians coach Steve Tuite said. “I feel bad for them because they played extremely hard, and they really deserved it.”

  3. pacster

both coaches were told about the jersey. both benches were fully aware of the numbers.
the only thing that matters is the kid put the puck in the net and it really didnt matter what number he had on.
    end of story!

great game by both teams and indeed L/P played very well but the better TEAM won.

  4. MAHOPACONTHEMOVE

Mahopac played hard. LP played hard and dirty, Mahopac retaliated and ended up with penalites. Mahopac is definitely the better team. No penalites – Mahopac 6 – LP 1.

As for wptigerhockey – Mahopac beat White Plains.. so stuff a puck in it.

Didn’t Pac kick WP’s behind about 10 days ago? I think the score was 5-1, WPTigerHockey should be quiet.

The Coach simply was saying that Lakeland/Panas played their hearts out and he gave them the credit they deserved.

  6. wow12

obviously u werent at the game cause lP played clean. i believe perrell was the one who punched a player in the face and should have been kicked out. and there was no way it could have been 6 to 1. your clueless about hockey

  7. MAHOPACONTHEMOVE is a joke

ur a joke LP out shot you 48-32 you got a lucky couple bounces mahopac is a joke good luck getting ur face stomped by mamo

  8. Ironic

Don’t read anything into Tuite’s comments, he is simply saying the right thing and being a gracious winner, he also is one of the top 5 coaches in the league and a former NCAA D.1 player, he realizes the talent L/P has, so should everyone else.

  9. wp/mamk

is it a coincidence that both tiger teams scored 6 unanswered goals in both their games to come back and win? though i will say wp was more impressive because of the opponent they played

  10. wptigerhockey

    MAHOPACONTHEMOVE,
ok, pac beat wp 5-1 the other night, but how does it feel to know you have not the slightest chance in your upcoming game…you were outshot tremendously by a league 4 team…thats a joke..it shouldnt have even gone in to OT…so please stop..i said nothing negative about pac, i just said it must suck to hear your coach say “they deserved it” because your coach clearly knows you were outplayed and got out lucky with a win…mamck, please put a beating on mahopac..also, MAHOPACONTHEMOVE its people like you that make these blogs so negative…i wouldnt have said anything like i said above if it werent for your comments…i say one harmless thing and you turn it in to something huge…

  11. calling it even

regardless lakeland really proved themselves as a team. They have one senior and alot of young talent . their first two lines are all sophomores a freshman and a junior. Look for lakeland panas to be a strong team next year. Also for such a small team they are very physical. on the other hand, congrats to mahopac

  12. fanotgame

You can still be physical as a smaller player as long as you can skate. There are a bunch of young kids on the L/P team that can skate very well. Will be fun to watch that team in the coming years.

  13. MAHOPACONTHEMOVE

wptigerhockey “wow I would feel disgraced as a Pac player” “I said nothing negative about PAC”, really? Had you not made your above comment, there would have been no negative response from me. Please don’t play innocent.

And good luck to ALL the teams on Friday!

  14. Collector

I heard that Perelle’s #4 jersey is going on eBay after the playoffs are over!

  15. hockdude6

    starting bid. 25 cents

  16. DantheMan

fiddy cents…..and I want it with the blood!

  17. Curt Shilling

Hey. Is he using my fake blood?

  18. LP hockey

as a lakeland panas player like myself we should of beat mahopac (my opinion) . we had a bad bounce when we tryed to clear the puck which gave there player and easy chance to score and win the game . As for the kid with the blood he should of been kicked out the game for punching my teammate and for the switching of the jerseys. my team is very young and we shouldnt of been a league 4 team because we obviously proved that we can play with league 1 teams. are talent on the team keeps getting better so when we come back for the 09/10 season dont think that we will take anything lightly. with the fact of us playing mahopac in the regular seson now we will show you that the lucky bounce they got wont happen again. but i think this season will prove alot to those who think were a joke because we played in league 4 .
