Brewster edges Yorktown to advance to semifinals

February
26

Ian Fleming scored twice in the third period as Brewster defeated Yorktown 4-3 in a Division II quarterfinal at Brewster Ice Arena.

The fourth-seeded Bears advance to the semifinals for the first time in seven years, where they will face the winner of tonight’s Rye-Pawling game.

Fleming scored with 8:00 minutes left to break a 2-2 tie, and then again with 1:20 left to make it 4-2. Michael Bonitatibus brought No. 5 Yorktown within 4-3 with 55 seconds to play with a power-play goal.

Yorktown had defeated Brewster in double overtime in last year’s quarterfinals.

    Pelham 7 S/NS 4.

Marc flory had 5 goals, recording his 100th career goal. Congratulations marc. Mamone tacked on 2.
Marasco had 3, one of which was the prettiest goal I have seen all year. He has sensational hands.

  2. update

Surprised that Pelham let up 4, but a win is a win.
    Ossining is beating JJ 2-0

  3. oh no

Surprised? Said it would come down to the goaltending and it did-Daly played great and Yorktown let in one off his back and one off his skate. Yorktown outskated and outshot Brewster for first hal of game. First period shots were 17-4! Brewster came on strong in third period-dominated a tired Yorktown team.

No question—goaltending was difference at Brewster Yorktown. Daly played great.

  5. goalies

Usually it is the 7 and 8 year olds that always blame goaltending. That is too simplistic of an answer to why you lost. Sounds like Yorktown took a whole bunch of crummy shots. It is a team sport, dont hang your goalie out to dry. You win and lose as a team.

    rye score anyone?

oh birdman, you want that rye score, fo realz?

  8. BrewsterDog

Goalies-not our goalie??You obviously wern’t thereDaly had a very good night and was the difference. The other goalie let in at least two soft-its theplayoffs.

  9. Rye

    7-1 Rye

Just read morning paper-4 goals on 25 shotsand the 25 shots was a gneerous count for Brewster. “Goalies”you’re wrong. Five hole, off the sakte and off the back is not a playoff goalie. Daly did his job for Brewsterperiod-he was the difference. Yorktown once again did not play well in the pipes and word now is both starting goalies have left the squad. Too bad since that program really looked like it had some promise.

  11. what a dissapointing season

Yorktown did a complete 360 this year. Harold predicted they may compete fot the d2 championship. OUCH.

  12. ohno

Agreed-their season was disappointing. They had returning players who could have carried this team. Cabrielle, Bonitatibus, Sullivan, Castellano, Lieberman all had several years of varsity under their belt. Coach never got it together-changing lines and not playing a consistent goalie. His pick of goalies in the last game confused everyone incluidng the players nad alum. Word is that it was the same goalie that walked off the ETB game after letting in 6 goals in the opneing minutes of hte game. How does he start him and lose to a team that Yorktown beat six years in a row inthe playoffs?? Things only look worse for next year as they have no shootres left and word is they are down to their two back up goalies since Para and Lieberman apparently are not playing.

Congrats to Brewster it was a great game. Someone is obviously disturbed writing what they did from Yorktown. The correct goalie played and the kids played a great game.
Blaming the coach and the goalie….sounds like someone is just crying over playing time and boo hoo to you.
I hope it isn’t a threat that you are done with hockey – good riddance to you and your attitude.
