February
26

Marc Flory (five goals and two assists) scored his 100th varsity goal for the second-seeded Pelham Pelicans tonight in a 7-4 win over seventh-seeded Somers/North Salem 4 in a Division II quarterfinal at the Ice Hutch.

Flory is now the third-leading scorer in school history behind C.J. Fredericks (113) and Tom D’Agostino (103). Mike Mamone had two goals and three assists.

Joe Marasco, the leading all-team scorer in Somers/North Salem program history who was playing the final game of his five-year varsity career, had a hat trick and an assist.

  5. Cr

well your the only one who does

  6. Pelham- S/NS

Great game. Pelham was the favorite, but Somers?North Salem gave ‘em a run… Final score doesn’t reflect the game. It was tied on many occasions. Pelham fans almost caused a penalty.

  7. sec1 fan

Yea some idiots decided to throw trash and shoes onto the ice, along with the 30 hats that went over for one of Flory’s goals. On behalf of the Pelham student section I apologize.

  8. Cr

  12. hockey fan

Does anyone know the JJ – Ossining score?

  13. scores

    ossining score?

  14. nyr

Very great season from S/NS. Scored one quick but Pelham got the upperhand. I didn’t know you could kick a goal in and slash at the goalie for 10 seconds to get a goal, or hook a kid 12 times or hit from behind and throw things on the ice without a penalty.

I never complain just post scores but i thought SNS played the entire game with Pelham again. Pelham scored an empty netter to finish it off.

  15. Vern

What was with thirteen on Pelham crying after being hit, limping off the ice, and then coming back five minutes later totally fine?

My section was just laughing at him. Pelham was more prepared and more skilled, but it looked like SNS scared them for a bit.

That’s what happens when a team is from league 3, they just can’t adjust to the speed.

  16. birdman

good year for pawling, despite the score they gave rye a little bit of a scare with their good goalie and burdick good luck to all pawling seniors and especially burdick who can go pretty far in his hockey career

  17. fanotgame

Hats off to Matty Burdick for a tremendous career. He went out in style tonite fighting for a goal to the bitter end. Rye just too balanced and deep. Seven different goal scorers from all three lines. Shots were something like 40 to 15 with most of Pawling’s shots either dump ins or from bad angles. Rye could have easily had 3 or 4 more except Delaverne played pretty well. Keep it up Garnets.

  18. oss JJ

well ossining adjuated just fine and won 4-0

  19. pelham ham

    Vern,

Thirteen broke his skate. He came off the ice to have a whole new blade put in, as the whole blade came out while he got hit. This explains why he was “limping” off… he didn’t have a blade in his left skate. The team manager ran the skate down to the shop for it to get fixed, and once he got it fixed, thirteen went back out.

  20. The Cash Cab

I think any top league 3 team(Oss, SNS, New Ro, Pawling) could have beaten John Jay.

  21. Hockey Lover

Cash Cab: Totally agree with you there. John Jay was 4-20 team overall and looked like it, if not worse tonight. They were talkin trash all night to Ossining players but Ossining players just shut em up by tellin em to look at the scoreboard.

Ossining vs. Pelham eh? Should be a good one. Let’s go O!

  22. hockeyy

The trash on the ice was one bottle thrown by an overly excited kid (elementary school!) who got caught up in the excitement. The crowd thought it was Flory’s 6th goal and threw their hats for a double hat trick.

  23. hockeyy

Congratulations Marc!! Huge accomplishment. It is amazing to watch you skate… like magic.

Great game Ossining. Marasco is a super skater. You gave Pelham some pressure and it was fun to watch. I was happy to see Marasco and the Pelham players talking after the game. It’s nice to see that after the intensity of the game, the players can shake it off and congratulate each other on a game well played. Well done, gentleman.

  24. Pelican Flash

Good game at the Hutch last night. Congrats to Marc Flory for his 100th career goal and to Mike Mamone for another 3 assist game.

  25. 13thman

at least one of the shoes was also thrown by some middle school kid, heard him having some trouble getting his shoe back from rox after the game. It was a stupid move by young kids who don’t understand why people are throwing HATS and just wanna throw crap on the ice.

Congratulations to Flory on the 100th goal, I am a bit disappointed in how it happened. He scored it with 3 seconds left as most of the student section had already started filing out, I don’t think most of the kids even realized what had happened right then, otherwise we would’ve really been roaring.

and Vern, I’m not sure what you are talking about, “crying”. As others have said, Dzenis broke the blade off his skate, so he had to sorta limp off, but as soon as it was fixed he was back on the ice. He was never injured.

  26. Howie Meeker

    nyr your right … you didn’t know…

13 had broken skate runner and the S/NS keeper couldn’t freeze the biscuit…

kicked in go to the video replay…

become a poker fan this game is too fast for you.

Last nights game against Pelham/SNS was an exciting one. Unfortunately the refereeing was horrific. SNS got stupid penalties while Pelham had at least 7-8 severe penalties that weren’t called. At one point it was so bad that I thought someone was going to get hurt because they weren’t blowing their whistle. Goalie is down on the puck but the Pelham players are kicking and swatting at the puck under the goalie and there is no whistle being blown for at least 10 seconds – just amazing. It definitely was one sided by the refs, sectional games should have the best refs out there and definitely nonbiased. I think this game would have been closer in score and possibly a different outcome. The Pelham fans were out of control by throwing hats (for the hat trick) all over the ice and then again a second time but not only throwing hats, empty bottles, sneakers and whatever. I have never seen that type of behavior at any type of game, or is that just lower Westchester. However, it should be about the players, not the refs or fans and these young men played a wonderful game, the teams were well matched which made for a exciting game and I congratulate them all especially both number “21’s” and captains.

  28. RyeFan

Pelham is gonna get rocked if they are even lucky enough to play us.

  29. hockeyy

You sound like RyePlayer instead of RyeFan. Why aren’t you in school?

If Rye and Pelham meet, it will be an awesome game. Grow up, fool.

  30. sec1 fan

Somers North Salem fans threw sticks of butter onto the ice one game up at Brewster… stop acting so suprised and outraged. #13 crying and limping off the ice- I think we covered that one. “my section was laughing at him.” Well I know there weren’t any students at the game, so that means you are an adult… so you were laughing at what you thought to be an injury?
As for the officiating, Pelham wasn’t playing dirty, they were going after the puck in the crease because the goalie NEVER covered it, he would just make the save and flop and hopefully trap it under his arm or something. One play he was down and the puck was to the goalies left and Pelham put it away. If you are referring to #23’s physicality, every single one of those checks was legal, no elbow, no cross check. Somers kids were the ones who skated full speed into the crease and charged a stationary Pelham player after the whistle.

  31. the FOG

Yes I agree S/NS lost because of the ref’s… horrible.

  32. sec1 fan

I would also like to thank the SNS goalie and JoJo for being good sports with the Pelham crowd. They made it more fun. Sometimes kids ignore it(rye), sometimes they get violent (fox lane), sometimes they give us the finger and call us f*gs (Mamaroneck) and sometimes they play it well. Both handled it well.

  33. Rye??

As a fan of neither Rye or Pelham Pelham is better. Pelham will have their hard game vs. Ossining. If they win Saturday they will beat Rye. It will be close but Pelham will beat Rye if they get them

  34. Blame the refs?

S/NS you palyed a fine game but Pelham is better. I have seen Pelham at least 5 times this season and last night was not one of Pelhams best games. #21 on S/NS is a talent but #21 on Pelham is in another zone this season. Good luck to Pelham on Saturday they should get to West Point if they put in the quality game

  35. nice

as always the refs fault! I think my2cents needs to get a clue and learn the game. how can the refs stink and then you say it was a wonderful game? Go get a rule book and sign up to ref.

  36. Charlie Cifarelli

VERN i dont know what your talking about DZENIS is JESUS

  37. No

Benincasa is Jesus, Charlie. Dzenis isnt even cool enough to be an Apostle

  38. nice ???

Refs were horrible. They were not consistant both ways. They clearly favored Pelham. S/NS has had problems with refs ever since #21 had an incident 2nd game of the season. Games should be taped & reviewed regularly. Game is about the kids, not the zebras. Good luck Pelham.

  39. The Cash Cab

Yes, SNS could have gotten a few more calls.
    Yes, Pelham kicked one in.
Yes, the refs could’ve blown a whistle or two quicker for SNS.
Yes, SNS stuck with Pelham and played well at the league one level.

  40. pp

any power play goals scored by Pelham?

  41. The Cash Cab

a few, even though they didnt score on a 5 on 3 in the first
