Division I semifinals

February
27

While there’s some new blood in Division II with Ossining and Brewster, the same four teams are back in the Division I semifinals. Last season Mamaroneck beat White Plains 4-3 and Suffern beat Mahopac 7-2. This time the matchups are different, though one thing remains the same — considering Mamaroneck and Suffern both swept Mahopac and split with White Plains, the No. 1 seed seems to have an advantage.

No. 1 Mamaroneck (22-2-1) vs. No. 4 Mahopac (10-14-1), 5:30 p.m. at Hommocks: Mamaroneck won the first two meetings 7-2 and 5-0, with Luke Glaser stopping 24 of 25 shots over five periods and eight different players finding the net. Here’s an interesting fact: Mamaroneck has a dozen players with 12 or more points, while Mahopac has three. Plus the Tigers received a mini-scare in their opening game against North Rockland, falling behind 2-1 in the second period, so they should be ready from the opening whistle this time. The Indians should be commended for getting back to the semifinals for the sixth (or is it seventh?) straight year, but they benefitted from an easy bracket this time, playing two League 4 teams, and still needed a goal in the final minute of regulation to take Lakeland/Panas to overtime. Tyler Perrelle has been an outstanding leader and player for the program, Chris Mastrocola is one of the fastest players in the section and Bobby Fatone has made some big saves, but at the risk of sounding like a broken record, Mamaroneck’s depth will make the difference. I don’t know who will step up, but someone will. Mamaroneck 5, Mahopac 2.

No. 2 Suffern (17-5-2) vs. No. 3 White Plains (14-9-2), 7 p.m. at Sport-O: I’m not going to carried away by White Plains’ 4-0 win three weeks ago at Ebersole. I’ve probably seen Suffern play a dozen times in two seasons, and that was by far the most lethargic performance I’d ever seen from them, while the Tigers were fired up to beat the Mounties for the first time in history. Likewise, I’m not putting too much stock in Suffern’s 3-1 win at Sport-O, since White Plains was missing its entire first forward line (two suspensions and a vacation conflict), and the Tigers rely on tiring out opponents with relentless pressure from multiple scoring lines. While the Tigers have been inconsistent at times, there’s no denying how good they can be when they’re on —  they are the only team in the state that’s beaten three of the top five teams in the Division I state rankings (Suffern, Mamaroneck and Clarkstown North). Still, I’m taking Suffern. I see a tight, low-scoring game, and I trust the Mounties more to maintain their composure and not take an unnecessary risk or a silly penalty. White Plains has had an unbelievable season and I’ve been wrong to pick against them in the past (see: Wednesday), but I think Paul Gabriel makes some huge saves and someone outside Suffern’s first line comes through with the winner. Suffern 3-2.

  1. agree

I agree that the Suffern – White Plains game will be tight. I think Gabriel will take a lot of shots and come up with some big saves. If Suffern’s offense can storm the net, I think they will come away with the win. It will depend heavily on whether or not the forwards show up with the intent to shell the goalie. Rattle him early enough in the game, and I think it will swing in Suffern’s favor.

Mahopac will come in strong, and would love to knock Mamo out, they will be fighting hard on the ice, but will ultimately fall to Mamo’s strong lines. I don’t think there will be a 3 point differential, I put the score closer with only one or two points apart.

    Go Suffern!

  2. hockey

It would be nice to see suffern win sections and the quarterfinal game since their 1992 team is being inducted in to the NYS High School Hockey Hall fo Fame that weekend. Are the players from that team going to be there or just Coach Orlando?

  3. hockey

    Final Four weekend, soorry!

  4. highschoolhockey

After seeing the the Pelham/Mahopac game, I think Mamo will handle Pac easily.

    6-2 Mamo
    Suffern 3-2

  5. WP vs. suffern

I think tonights WP suffern game is going to come down to the goalies. It will be a close game and Pavarini is going to have to have the game of his life to outplay Gabriel. I would say both teams offense’s are similiar. Good luck to all.

MINUTES shots saves Goals save % GAA
    29 Mike Pavarini 1142.5 492 417 75 84.75% 2.95
    1 Paul Gabriel 1022.5 522 492 30 94.25% 1.32

  6. Peaches and Herb Brooks

WP can win this game. Have 2 guys in front of the net screening, and keep throwing shots on net. One or two are bound to go off a skate or leg and go in.

  7. Games

By the way, the goalie stats mean nothing in a one and done game. Pavarini shut them out last game, I really don’t care if sufern had post-nasal drip or not. Suffern has absolutely no depth on offense. Shut down their first line, and make their second line beat you. It won’t happen.
Sufferns goaltenders stats are more of a reflection on their overall team defense, then their actual skill.

  8. fanotgame

I think Mamo will dispatch Pac pretty easily. Mamo takes chances and players like Mastracola can make you pay for that, so I don’t expect a shut out. Lets say 6-2 Mamo.

The WP/Suffern match could be one for the ages. I think WP and Suffern are about dead even at forward. WP seniors McCarrick and Altieri are similar to the Hiller/Hill combo. Youngsters Broderick and Variano similar to Jaeger and Redgate. The other forward parts of the respective teams match up pretty well.

A lot has been said about Suffern’s 3 dmen. But, now that Klimchuck has been moved up to forward, WP also does a 3 Dman rotation. WP’s top guy, McGee is a much better skater and more dynamic player than Norwin, who is a super “stay at home” player. WP’s McCandliss is very fast and physical. At least equal to Suffern’s McCarron. Don’t know that much about Suffern’s Fuchs and WP’s Peeples. I give the advantage at D to WP. Suffern has the clear advantage in goal.

Although I love the way dubset is playing, I think the better goalie wins this one. 4-2 Suffern.

  9. rep the set

hate to break it to you. white plains is coming of a huge win and i think theyre going to carry that into today. Im going with wp in this one.
    wp 5 suf 3

  10. disagree

WP will never get 5 goals off of Gabriel, the only reason they shut him down last time with 4 was because he was playing in 10 degree weather with bronchitis, not a post-nasal drip, BIG difference. I agree that WP is coming off a big win and will come on strong, but ultimately Gabriel is the stronger goalie. As far as tying him up in front of the goal with a bunch of hangers and trying to screen him, that doesn’t say much for your faith in the offense just getting a clean shot past him. I agree the game can go either way, we have seen lots of upsets thus far, and you only need one goal to trickle in and not have Suffern’s offense making shots, and that’s the game. Like I said, it could go either way, but I am going with Suffern 2-1.

  11. CN Alumni/Fan

good luck to all final four teams tonight.

The Suffern-WP game is too close to call. My gut says: Suffern at home, in a big game, has more big game experience, etc. But on the other hand, WP beat Suffern, Mamo and CN this year. I say it’s an incredibly close game, probably a 2-1 finish. Should be a great game for all those going.

As for the Mamo-Mahopac game, i expect Mamo to come away with something like a 4-2 win. Pac has played teams tought this year, including taking Suffern into tthe 3rd period with a lead, and I believe they have beaten WP.

again, good luck to all teams tonight, should be a great night of hockey.

  12. BobTheBuilder

Let’s hope Perrelle can contain himself tonight and stay out of the box for a whole period. Switching things around because of this can throw the team off their game. Hope he realizes that. Well, he’s the captain – he should.

  13. DAB

    HMMMMMM

  14. goalie

Comparing Pavarini to Gabriel might be one of the funniest things this blog has ever seen.

  15. rye

Harold give us an update on the weather sunday up in west pt im hearing snow but highly doubt they will cancel the games….. Whts ur take shouldnt be much snow

  16. Al Bundy

Should be Suffern and Mamo tonight. I’ll guess both by comfortable margins.

Great showing by White Plains this year, but tonight it will probably end. WP has a good future as a power program. Sorry their won’t be any league 1 next year, because I really believe that White Plains could have been a favorite to win it next year.

  17. Go away GAMES

Games, And that shut-out by pavarini against suffern was a very common thing for him this year. He has one other shut-out other then the suffern game. He is something like 14th in saves, and 30th in save % in the section. I guess you are going to blame his defense. Sorry Peeples, McGee, Millett, Caldorola and the rest of the D. But Pavarini would be much better if you guys could play.

  18. ?

    how rude..

  19. Can't be quiet anymore

Congrats to Willows, Shuman and the entire CN team for having such a great season. To all the nasty bloggers, not that we owe you any explanations

    1.
CN’s loss to WP had nothing to do with Willows and Shuman, they scored 4 goals to give a 4-0 lead. They are not defensemen or the goalie, they more than do their job and pick up the slack of others. Nobody ever came on this blog and claimed CN was the greatest, and that we would win the whole thing. We were happy to get to where we did. Some of WP goals went in from the blue line, and just were never cleared, Enough said!

    2.
WP never gave up and played a great game and it was a clean game (nice to have one of those). The CN team got along well, parents and player and coaches. Yes we had kids that didn’t get much playing time, most of them haven’t played hockey since 2nd grade (they were happy to be part of the team).

    3. As far as our old coach David Lynch getting revenge, this is not about him, it’s about the kids. As a parent I would rather lose than EVER Have D. Lynch coach my Son.

WP beware, don’t give him any power it could get really ugly. Coach Lynch was fired due to his own actions, not because the team lost games (CN School District does not care about athletics), yes parents and players complained, it had nothing to do with not winning, it was so much worse than that.

    4. You have all bashed our new coaches, yes they are young, yes they are learning, and yes it was great to have them. They have the respect of their players and parents. They are great with the players and win or lose we all enjoyed having them.

PS one more note everyone claims knowing all kinds of reasons why Shuman didn’t play last year, you all bash him, if you want to know what really went on why don’t you ask D. Lynch, although you probably wouldn’t get the truth.
I wish all of the teams good luck and hope that all you players are having fun. We all know that most of the nasty blogging is from people who know nothing and makeup everything. I believe the players actually have more respect for each other than the parents and fans.

  20. be quiet

Can’t be quiet why? Who was bashing CN? I think most of the talk was about WP, Pac, Suffern & Mamo. The players definitely have more respect for each other, no question. The bloggers can be disgraceful, CN among the worst.

  21. Harold Gutmann

    rye,
There is a chance for light snow on Sunday. I haven’t heard anything about an inclement weather plan but I’ll let you know when I find out. Like you I sincerely doubt they would cancel games, and since it’s on a Sunday hockey doesn’t have to worry about schools making the decision for them, but people will be traveling 50 miles and so if it turns into a big storm you never know.

Also, we won’t be webcasting the semifinals, but we will be doing the finals at West Point on lohud.com/vcsports4 (the same site as every other game this season). I’ll post a reminder this weekend.

  22. observer

    Can’t be quiet:

I was also at the game the other night and agree with you that it was a clean good hard fought game. What I disagree with is that only one blue line shot went in , the other goals were all from right in front of the net. Although Willows and Shuman are not the goalie and defense as you so stated they are part of a team that should win or lose as a team. Every team has stars that do more than fair share but there are more than 2 reasons why CN was so succesful this season. I hope I misinterperted your comments that the blame for the loss was strictly the defense and the Goalie.

  23. sec1 fan

Reporters at both semi’s in both divisions though?

  24. Rope a dope

It seems WP used the Ali method on CN on Wed. Let them throw the heavy stuff, wait for them to poop out, and then finish them off. I doubt it will work on Suffern though.

  25. Also

    To Be Quiet

Just don’t be surprised if alot of comments come from your own camp.

One of the biggest problems with this blog is that people assume they know who is writing. You can remain anonymous it could be almost anyone. I think there are alot of troublemakers on this blog.

  26. Hockey Mom

Can’t be quiet anymore….that was uncalled for and totally disrespectful. You should not have fallen to the nasty rumors, opinions, and such from this blog. Trust me….no one knows more than me how hurtful and inhuman people can be when they are anonymous and say hateful things about people they do not even really know. It would eat me up what nasty people, many who others would blog about my son (many as I now know were even adults are) but I never would disrespect people anonymously by naming names and attacking individual players, teams, coaches. This is a high school sport and it is fun, exciting, and terrific to watch kids you have watched grow and mature and become the good players they are. They come out and play their hearts out each and every time. Can’t you people finally get that and stop putting individauls down. Be human. My son doesn’t even play anymore and I am still am one of the biggest fans. I know these kids, I watched them battle it through, last year and this year. What WP has accomplished is AWESOME! Just like what Matt & Jake accomplished is AWESOME, JoJo, Tyler, etc, etc, etc…no matter what other people feel or say. I think that going forward this should be a blog about the trrific sport it truly is and the kids who come out each year….because there are STARS every year and put them up instead of down…...

  27. Hockey Mom

Forgive my typos, I was on a roll! lol lol

    BTW – Did I mention…...GO WHITE PLAINS!!!!!

  28. Can't be quiet anymore

You did misunderstand, in no way was I putting blame on goalie or defence. I was going back at bloggers who say that Willows and Shuman did not do their job. We lost as team and win as a team. There is no blame the team is what it is, and it was a great year. Just can’t stand the bashing on the players. Good Luck to everyone

  29. WP fan 2

Al Bundy- WP has some very good returning players. Depth could be an issue. The big problem is goalie. Pav graduates. The 2nd string goalie put on pads for the first time maybe 2 years ago. There is no real goalie in middle school either.

  30. To "can't be quitet anymore"

As a CN parent it is embarrassing to have you come on here and call out a former CN coach. I watched WP play CN twice this year and Both times I witnessed the former coach have cordial conversations with former players (including Shuman) and their parents. Maybe you did not want that man coaching your son but please keep that to yourself. The sad thing everyone knows who you are and your last post lives up to your obnoxious reputation.

Believe it or not, not everyone was happy with the coaching situation and not every kid was happy to just be an ornament on the bench – the coaches coach and as a parent I stay out of it. One certainly can’t argue with the results of being one the top ranked teams in the state and a league title. I certainly would never call out a coach/coaches and try to slander or embarrass them on this blog.

Lastly I speak for many when I tell that we are thrilled that we will no longer have listen to your classless rants at the rink and then read about it on this blog.

  31. Suffern

yea i agree with harold a inch of snow tops.. no way they cancel games

  32. Not ok

You contradict yourself, coming on this OBNOXIOUS blog, and stating that it is not okay to bash a former coach. Yet you find that it is perfectly okay to BASH a parent, call them out, embarrass and slander them on a blog! ( who is anonymous, and we truly have no idea who it is.) Obviously “cant be quiet anymore” hit a nerve with you. I suppose it is true, that everyone is “great”, until you lose, than you people turn on each other! As a CN parent, I find you pathetic, practice what YOU preach! It is obvious from that post, that that parent/s had some serious Issues with the former coach of CN.

  33. weather

We can all be happy that even though it isn’t spring yet we can all put our fur coats away, thank god!

  34. love4thegame

    honestly
whoeverwants to win this game more is gonna win
but suffern does have the home ice advantage
but wp juniors had to miss their prom for the game so i c WP juniors coming out fired
    Goodluck 2 both teams
    Suffern 2
    Dubset 3

  35. Absurd

To: “To cant be quiet anymore” It’s obvious from YOUR post who YOU ARE! and based off of your post, it’s OBVIOUS why NO ONE TALKED to you all season! Guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!

  36. Al Bundy

    WP Fan 2 –

I was basing my aasertion on WP returning players and knowing that you’ve had some good modified teams the last couple of years. Of course with modified you don’t know who stays to play varsity.

The goalie situation is always key. Maybe with no rigorous league 1 schedule next year, an inexpierienced goalie can find his way during the season and be ready for come playoff time.

I’m pickin Suffern tonight, but best of luck to the White Plains team.

  37. To "not ok"

I would never embarrass a parent by naming them on this blog. I really did think that post was totally inappropriate and embarrassing to the CN hockey program, especially the parents.

  38. John Feinstein

I just stumbled on this site and I’ve been reading these posts about this Clarkstown North is it? Anyway, I need to write a book about this. This is riveting dramatic stuff. This will make ‘Season on the Brink’ seem like a snoozer. I’ll be in touch with all of you to get your version of the story. What should I name it? ‘New City Nut House’ or ‘A Tale of Two Seasons’? Any suggestions.

  39. love4thegame

Harold why do u never say white plains is going 2 win but then in the end we always do.

  40. Paging Dr. Phil

Dr. Phil you are clearly needed over in New City. As The Clarkstown North World Turns is currently airing their dirty laundry.

Here’s an idea people – Stick a cork in it and try talking about actual hockey games.

  41. ETB

    John,
Why don’t you do the story on Rockland County hockey Mom’s? All the wild parties and late night antics would make for great drama.

  42. Hockey Mom

I don’t think we need to bring up last year. Lets keep the discussion to hockey and my favorite team. Go Mounties!

  43. hockey09

    ETB –

Completely uncalled for. You are talking about someone’s mother and its not annoymous due to all the publicity it unfortunately received. Have you no soul? Stick to the game. Oh, and get a call in to Dr. Phil – tell him its an emergency.

  44. predictions

Mamo over Mahopac 7-1, Not even a close game
Suffern over WP 4-1, empty netter to put it away
Suffern over Mamo in final 2-1, great game! suffern outshot 41-23 but still gets the win

Rye over brewster 5-3 not as close as score
Pelham over Ossining 6-2 easy win for pelham
Pelham over Rye in final 4-2 also not as close as my prediction

  45. ETB

I bet you would like to forget about the drama from last year. Open up the pool soon and get ready for those parties! Rockland County hockey Moms are pathetic.

  46. Dr. Phill

I just heard Dr. Phill booked The CN booster club, past and present coaches, past and present AD’s to come on National TV and humiliate themselves in front of national TV audience. Apparently this blog does not reach enough people.

Seriously though your season is over, please leave the blog so the folks who actually enjoy talking hockey can read in peace.

  47. Hockey Mom

    ETB,
Stay on your side of the Hudson. Start getting ready for next season. We are getting ready for the section finals. Sorry. But at least you have American Idol.

  48. suffern

ETB (easy to beat), Better yet go start working on your golf game your season is OVER!!!! go away!!!!! Be happy you lost to New Roc in a close game, can you imagine the beating you would have taken from suffern?

  49. Section 1 Fan

    to Fanotgame

This is a new one: “McGee and McCandless are better than Norwin & McCarron”...i’m sure you have been saying that over and over to yourself and now you actually believe it.
Here is some news for you, they aren’t as good and you are the only one that believes it. McGee is a junior and he is good and will be better next year..but better than Norwin. A statement like that…if it wasn’t laughable it would be idiotic. McCandless isn’t the player McCarron is. You can take either WP Defenseman and say they are better at one particular aspect..but better overall? Come on now son.

  50. Dr. Phil

Please do not impersonate me…..I am the Dr. Phil of this blog…

  51. Suffern1

It all comes down to Suffern’s Offense! Which O will show up? The forwards who attempt to skate through two and three defenders while trying to enter the opponets zone or the one’s that will dump and chase after it? Will they play the finess game or will they be physical and tenacious to the puck on every shift as they were in the CN game? Let’s face it boys, the D and goalie have carried this team for most of the season. It’s time to stand up and be counted for in the big games!Remember, it’s one and done!

  52. Dr. Phill

My bad Dr. phil (I used 2 L’s in my phill). This is last time I will use that name. RESPECT!

  53. To John Feinstein

John, your title should be “It was the Best of Times, It was the worst of Times:” Who cares if it gets used again, by the time the lawsuit for copyright infringment is settled. a cybor playing in League 4 will own the state scoring record.

  54. Hockey Fan

Just to set the record straight, before someone says it:

No, Section 1 Fan is NOT one of Suffern’s Defensive Parents.

  55. Ossining

    To Predictions-
Rest assured- Ossining will be on the ice at West Point Sunday.

  56. Viola Rd

I just don’t get the Journal News. Who told them that the masses out there love HS Basketball more than any other sport going. Is it the reporters? The Sports Editor? Is it reader reaction that has prompted this ‘over the top’ coverage?
Today’s edition covered with pictures from about every game played yesterday, articles about Mount Vernon, Peekskill, Ossining girls upset, LP victory over Pearl River, etc.
Meanwhile we have the semifinals of Section I hockey this evening and there is NO mention anyware. In fact Harold’s recap of Div II playoffs where? 5 pages into the sport section, behind articles about COLLEGE BASEBALL and lo and behold the SECTION 1 CHEERLEADERS COMPETITION this weekend.
And oh yes, wrestling. The JN hardly covers wrestling all year and now they have a half page on Section I wrestlers that are going upstate??? What the @!*#% is going on???? Is girls basketball drawing upwards of 1000 people to playoff games? Check the girls basketball blog. Lohud’s Thompson has 10 postings since Feb 25th and want to know how many posts the readers left? You guessed it, “0”, absolutely none!!!!! So while it’s apparent to many, the fools at The Journal News seemed to be taking a nap. Is there any more passionate fan than the lohud hockey fan?? I find it shocking that there is no preview of tonights matchups, Suff-WP and Mamo-Pac. Not even a mention that it is taking place except for the tiny “todays events” entry. Curious Harold, did your bosses give you a certain amount of room in todays edition? Where you not allowed to include a blurb about the ‘big’ matchups tonight? As many bloggers as there is to this site, I know dozens that rely on the paper for info and couldn’t be bothered posting. Tomm’s edition will surely be littered with County Center games and State Wrestling results. Harold, Where am I gonna have to look tomm for the Hockey results, in the Lifestyle Section????????

  57. wptigerhockey

goaltending is gonna be a very big problem for WP next year…as you mentioned pavarini graduates and the goalie who will be a junior next year started playing on modified in 8th grade. he played 2 years of modified and was never too great of a goalie, and has never played travel…other than that, i think WP will have one of the best defensive and offensive teams in the section…you got lindh, klimchuk, mcgee, peeples, variano, broderick along with some other pretty good solid players…WP will be a very good solid team even next year..but as of now, lets worry about tonight and get the W..go dubset!

  58. highschoolhockey

This is getting really ugly. You all need to chill out and stop airing your dirty laundry on a blog! Geez people! Get a life. There was nothing negative said about CN in this line of blogging. You brought this up, Cant Keep Quiet. YOU are the one who sparked the conversation. You’re a mom? How could you be the one to bring this to the conversation and get everyone involved in CN’s troubles? You certainly have informed a lot of people now!! Good for you! Feel good? Have you vented? You should have brought your concerns to your coach or former coach, as the case may be. Take it to the proper channels. I feel bad that you are so immature and a bad role model for your kid. Oh, and great job keeping it anonymous.

  59. Al Bundy

    Well said Viola Rd.

I’m not saying that the other sports are devoid of popularity, but the print coverage is disproportionate.

I always found it interesting the lack of postings in the other HS sport blogs. After reading some of today’s hockey blog entries, I’m not sure if that speaks good or bad about hockey!

  60. jb

Headed out to the Pac game, hoping Pac can put a great together and upset Mamo – you never know what can happen, that is why they play the games. CN had a 4 goal lead against WP and thought they were sailing away with a victory. 6 goals later WP defeated CN 6-4. In order for Pac to win I thing it will have to be a low scoring game say 3-2 or 2-1.

  61. Taylor

White Plains can beat Suffern. I wouldn’t favor them if I were an oddsmaker but Suffern does not have this in the bag. I White Plains really ‘brings it’ Suffern could be in trouble. That’s a game I’d really like to see. There should be a huge crowd there too.

  62. Complete

Who ever said that the comment from “cant be quiet anymore” was from a mom? I went and read the comments, and no where did I see that. I also do not understand what the problem was on that post. The “Blogger” did not say anything bad about CN or the program. They merely stated that D. Lynch was a coach they would not want their son to play for. The problem with this blog, is everyone looks to twist words, as well as ASS-U-ME who people are. Let’s not forget, you do not have to use your real name , so in truth no one will ever no who you are. There have been plenty of posts on here, from various teams, calling for coaches jobs, bashing players, and etc… the list could go on and on! Truthfully, and I include myself in this, Everyone on here is pathetic and needs to get a life!

  63. Hockey Mom

Some one is using my tag “Hockey Mom” and it is not me….I AM AND ALWAYS WILL BE, A WP HOCKEY MOM..GO WHITE PLAINS!!!!!
You keep doing us proud, time and time again!!!!

  64. LoHud Hockey

Viola Rd said it best in that post when he said:

“Is there any more passionate fan than the lohud hockey fan??”

I didn’t know I had so many fans, but thanks for the plug.

  65. LoHud Hockey

    Rope a dope-

I believe that was also the strategy Rocky Balboa used to beat Clubber Lang.

  66. fanotgame

I guess it is my turn to get impersonated. Section One Fan, the post comparing the Suffern and WP players was mine. But the following post was not. Listen, I like Norwin. Saw him all summer at Empire workouts. Just think McGee is better. That’s all. Those two along with Ciotti and Dzenis should be the top dmen as seniors next season with current sophs Reagen and Christiansen also in the mix.

  67. Harold Gutmann

I banned ETB and the fake fanotgame (surprisingly enough it was the same person). I also deleted a lot of comments responding to it (which now won’t make sense)

    Viola Rd,
I have no idea where the hockey stories will end up. That decision will be made by the sports editors while I’m out covering the game. You can reach local sports editor Joe Lombardi at jlombard@lohud.com.
Also someone asked this — we will be covering all four semifinals.

  68. Old Coach

WP has been eliminated by Suff for 3 years in a row i the semis.. They have always put up a major fight but lost it in the last 5:00 min.
    I predict WP 4 Suff 3

  69. dougk

old coach, interesting non sequitur posting, however tonights final score will be suff – 4, wp – 2

  70. suff fan

To Al Bundy, yes there are some really unfortunate entries on this blog, but there certainly is a lot of interest. I also find the JN hockey coverage to be extremely disappointing. Harold, I think you posted this on another blog topic, but who can we complain to at the JN about their over-coverage of basketball and under-coverage of hockey? Who makes the decisions for the JN Sports section?

  71. Getting older

Old Coach, WP was eliminated by Mamo last year, and actually when Suffern knocked out WP those years it was the quarters. That being said tonite’s game is closer than those.

  72. Almost

LETS GO WHITE PLAINS LETS MAKE IT AN ALL TIGER SECTION FINAL!!!!!!

  73. El estudiante

    Predictions:
    Mamaroneck: 6
    Mahopac: 1

It’ll be close; 3-1 or even 2-1 after the second, but Mamk will use their depth to overwhelm ‘Pac in the third, something we’ve seen happen to many many teams.

    ***

Suffern: 3 (or 4 if there’s an empty netter)
    White Plains: 2

I would be surprised to see Suffern lose here, because I just think they are better than WP all around, and this being the playoffs, they won’t come out flat. That said, WP has been very very impressive all year, and can beat anyone on any given day.

    These will be great games.

  74. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Will someone please post updates from the Mamk Pac game on every goal change or if thats a hassle every lead change? THANK YOU

  75. Ironic

I was one of the people saying I was happy for the old North coach. Don’t mistake this for me being a fan of his, I absolutely did not like his actions at all. I was happy for people getting what they deserve, and I feel the way he was treated by the North Administration, there was a senese of justice served here.

I don’t think anyone is bashing Will and Shu either, we, at least I am grateful for their participation this year, the league has benefited from there demonstrations as we have not seen talents like this since probably John Carter. We will see their effects on Section one long after their gone, I hope people were watching.

  76. hockey09

Let’s Go White Plains! McCandless, McCarrick and Altieri will bring it tonight and end Sufferns season. I hope!

  77. El estudiante

Clarkstown North seems to be the Dallas Cowboys of LoHud Hockey. They haven’t won in a century, and yet we’re forced to hear about them.

It’s really disappointing that everyone who is excited for the two awesome match-ups tonight has had to sort through the mess left behind by the CN parent feuding. Nice to see the positive example they’re setting!

  78. Section 1 Fan

Suffern’s D will be on WP tonight like white on rice, like stink on a monkey. No let down here. When you have extenuating circumstances during the regular season (sickness, injuries, just mid winter blahs) that is one thing, but the playoffs. Have no fear Mountie fans, a tough one through 40 minutes but a late goal and a 4-1 victory.

  79. Harold Gutmann

I’ve created a new post for semifinal updates tonight, so people don’t have to scroll through everything else. Please help out your fellow bloggers if you can.

  80. Stop

Suffern has been feuding on this blog since the blogs inception, so please don’t make this about CN. And all year, CN parents, fans and PLAYERS that read this blog had to see themselves be criticized, and scrutinized, as well as plain old BASHED! Personally, when you start attacking a kid, and your an adult it’s pretty scary.

  81. Tebow

    Stop:

    STOP…READING THEN!
No one makes a kid/parent read this

  82. Jerry Springer

Dr. Phil told me there’s a GREAT future show brewing over here and I think he’s right!!!

  83. Brian

Mamo is a blowout and White Plains 5-3.

  84. The Cash Cab

I have to say that the hockey coverage in past years in the paper was much better, meaning there was more of it. I’m not saying Harold isnt doing his job, because he certainly is, but the head editors or sports editors coughjoelombardicough have pretty much ignored hockey. i mean just go take a look at the pictures on the varsity central site and like the first three pages are all basketball, even picutres of the coach of a girls basketball team, WHY DO WE NEED THAT?!? (in fact, it’s actually rather disturbing that they have an album of just the coach and his various gestures, like the photographer had a thing for him).

it’s sad to see that the editors really have no idea what their audience likes, as its certainly not girls basketball.

  85. Get it right Harold!

    Sureeeee suffern won!
u make bad predictions mr. gutmann….
