Two regulars and two newcomers in Division II

The Division II semifinals will have two perennial powers and two teams that haven’t been there in seven years. The previous posts had a some information on Pelham and Brewster (and there is more from Brewster-Yorktown in my article, including details on Ian Fleming’s winning strategy and Brewster’s role players stepping up). In the two other semifinals, Rye defeated Pawling 7-1 and Ossining beat John Jay 4-0. So I was right with the winners (improving my record to 13-2 in the playoffs) but way off on all the scores.
Seven different players scored for Rye, who outshot Pawling 37-15. And four different players scored for Ossining, who scored twice in the first period and twice in the third (including an empty-netter) and outshot the Indians 27-18.
So here’s the semifinal schedule Saturday:
No. 1 Rye vs. No. 4 Brewster, 11:45 a.m. at Playland
No. 2 Pelham vs. No. 6 Ossining, 5 p.m. at Ice Hutch
The Rye game had to be moved up because of the Manhattanville-Hobart men’s ECAC West tournament game.
I’ll be back before lunch with predictions on Friday’s games, but feel free to start without me.

Wasn’t Yorktown like 16-8 last year??? Harold predicted they would contend for the league title this year. Ouch!
It goes to show you that this is a team sport.
Teams can have individual talent, but a team that is united can overcome a bunch of indivuals that don’t play together. More proof of that is how White Plains beat CN when it mattered most.
Mamo over Mahopac 7-1
Suffern over WP 3-1
Suffern over Mamo in final 2-1
Rye over brewster 5-3
Pelham over Ossining 6-2
Pelham over Rye in final 4-3
Harold-are you going to be at Sutter’s tonight?
Harold, whether you pick Suffern or WP tonight, someone is going to be mad at you. At least one WP blogger thinks you have been dissing them all year with your picks and one Suffern blogger will inevitably find fault with the depth of your analysis. Thanks for all you’ve done this year for hs hockey at the JN.
You know, for a team that isn’t very big or physical, Ossining certainly came out hitting and hitting hard last night. John Jay responded with some big hits of their own but ultimately it came down to Ossining being the better skilled team as well as the faster team. Scott Miele was too much for John Jay to handle. He’s a great dangler and he certainly showed it last night deiking people left and right. Ossining utilized their speed and skating ability to post a shutout with their backup goalie in net. Ballsy move by the Ossining coach. However, as anyone who followed Ossining hockey this year, one could argue they have 2 starting goalies. Joe Riley and Greg Bardwell are phenomenal goalies and of equal skill level.
Good luck to Ossining against Pelham tonight. LET’S GO O!
To Hockey Lover-
I believe Riley is Ossining’s #1 goalie. Bardwell also very solid. Both can play with anyone in the section and would no doubt get more attention if playing in a higher league. Same is true for Miele, who is very skilled and anchors the defense, and first line center Annibal who is a top point getter. Their league 3 schedule has not helped the O’s cred, but I must admit they have answered the bell every time. I would not be surprised to see the O at West Point Sunday.
nah he’s their backup. Greg Bardwell is the starter but because both are so good, the split time quite often. League 3 schedule hasn’t helped but they played a tough schedule this year for a league 3 schedule.
riley is absolutely the #1 goalie. he has played all the harder games this year, but him and bardwell are both juniors so they both get time. However, riley played the pawling game 2x’s, new rochelle game 2x’s, somers game 2x’s, and not to forget the mamaroneck game. those are all the harder games. the coach changed it up to put riley in, and im pretty sure he is in for the rest of the playoffs. bardwell is good, but he played the nyacks, greeleys and oneills of the world. plus riley played the john jay game last night. both are great players and exeptional athletes.
Well watch out for the 738 squad. Both kids will get lit up. Birdman fly in any weather.
“What a dissapointing season”-agreed. Don’t know what Yorktown caoch was thinking about in starting back up goalie for playoffs. Same kid who got hammered in ETB for 6 goal in first period and then quit the game?? Yorktown returned some atheltes who had played well togethere for years-Cabrielle, bonitatibus(2), Castellano, Lieberman, Sullivan. Hopefully a new coach is in stroe for them and they get rid of the current regime who appears more bent on appeasing parents and friends of theirs than winning games, but it may be too late as word is several key players are not playing for these guys again.
Mr. OHNO is out of his mind and does not speak for anyone but himself. Just sour grapes on your part. Hopefully you will be the one not back with this team.
