Division II semifinals

Just like in Division I, this round is where the No. 1 seed really comes in handy. I see Rye handling Brewster, but Ossining giving Pelham all kinds of problems. What do you think?
No. 1 Rye (13-10) vs. No. 4 Brewster (10-12-2), 11:45 a.m. at Playland: Brewster is 6-4-1 after a tough start, which includes some nice wins over League 2 competition, and is now in the semifinals for the first time in seven years. But they haven’t faced a team like Rye yet. Brewster’s wins this year were RTH, Carmel, Mt. P, Yorktown (twice), ETB, and Scarsdale (twice). What do they all have in common? None of them won a playoff game. Brewster gets its third-leading scorer back from suspension to complement the high-powered duo of Mike Miller and Ian Fleming, and I think that’ll be enough to get something past goalie Matt Benincasa. But Brewster gave up a lot of odd-man rushes against Yorktown, and that will prove fatal against the Garnets. Rye gets scoring from all three lines and gets within one game of a third straight title. Rye 4-1.
No. 2 Pelham (15-10) vs. No. 6 Ossining (20-2-2), 5 p.m. at Ice Hutch: Ossining hasn’t given up more than three goals all year — not to Mamaroneck, Sleepy Hollow/Irvington, Somers/North Salem, Pawling, New Rochelle, etc.. Pelham has scored 27 goals in its last four games, which includes five each against DI semifinalists Mahopac and White Plains. Within this great offense-defense matchup is an individual battle between Marc Flory, who continued his unbelievable run with a season-high five goals against Somers/North Salem (he now has six straight multi-goal games), and Scott Miele, one of the section’s top defensemen who shut down Joe Marasco when I saw the team play Somers/North Salem at WSA. I think Ossining’s close loss to Mamaroneck should give them confidence, and they are riding high after reaching the semifinals for the first time in seven years, but the Pelham seniors are on a mission to get back to Glens Falls and Ossining isn’t stopping them. Pelham 3-2.

isn’t Mike Miller not Matt Miller…....
Oh Harold- so close. Ossining is on a mission of its own. The O wins it 4-2.
Pelham throws a 3 headed monster 1st line, Flory, fast and the best goal scorer in the section, Emerson the a very skilled and patient player with great hands and Mamone the best 2 way player and a terrific setup guy.
Pelham 5. Ossining 2
Very good CHSHL B playoff after Pelham /Ossining.
Holy Cross / St Francis for fans of hockey and ones with no dates.
Will be a VERY physical game at West Point. Mammro can handle it and will prevail because of thier speed and conditioning. No connections either way. just observations.
It ends for White Plains tomorrow. They did give Mamaroneck an easy ride to regionals by knocking out Suffern
mistake, Emerson won’t be playing, it’ll be Reilly the freshman playing on the first line again… I still say Pelham wins this game without too much trouble though 4-2.
n-4cer,
good catch. also, chaminade jv beat st. ant’s jv 2-1 last night. game 2 is tonight (both games coney island). i have a feeling st. ant’s will tie the series up tonight, making game 3 go local for us (murray’s, 5:15, thursday). would be a real good one to see..
Pelham fans-
Besides Flory, who are these players that you mention? Here’s some names for you: Miele, Annibale, Giordano, Robins, Towers, Riley, etc. Miele is the best defenseman in the section, bar none. Annibale has over 55 points and is always a threat to score. And Riley has been unbeatable betwen the pipes. I dont think Pelham can hang with these guys for 3 periods. Its been a good run for Pelham, no doubt.
Sunday at the Point: Rye v. Ossining.
hobart-manhattanville at 7 tonight at playland will be a real good one…definitely being decided by only 1 goal…
2-0 Rye in first
Hey No Hype you are so right, Suffern, Mamaroneck, Massena, CN, Queenbury, etc didn’t have players close to the talent of the guys you mentioned. Wow Ossining has a player with over 50 points playing a league 3 schedule. Last time I looked Pelham has 2 players with over 50 points. Let’s play the game, then talk.
Just heard from Dan that Rye is now leading 4-0 in the first period.
pelham vs Ossining
Close game for 2 periods. Gavin has big game tonight
Ossining is good but Pelham more experience with tough games. Here is where there brutal schedule works for them.
another Pelham Rye final at the point anyones game in OT
Division 2 is a joke
Lets go Pelham….suck it ossining
Umm
yeah thats why Pelham a D 2 team beat White Plains twice. Rye beat Mamaroneck and Pelham beat Suffern. Ossining almost knocked off Mamaroneck at home as well.
everyone knows that in any sport, the team that gets hot at the right time goes on to win. stating that, i like WP over Mamo tomorrow.
I think that Rye will have an advantage in the finals because the of the early time of their game today. They’ll have 5 more hours of rest before playing tomorrow.
7-0 Rye in second period
I mean besides Rye and Pelham division 2 is not strong. The fact that Brewster is in the semi finals is a clear message that division 2 is very weak
Harold
What happens if the big snow comes early on Sunday.
any provisions for rescheduling or relocating the
games at West Point?
Correct ha ha, but the problem is with the seedings. Ossining is probably the best D 2 team without counting the league 1 teams and because they played in league 3 and yorktown and brewster played league 2 Ossining was seeded lower. It helped Rye because if Rye had to go through a tough game today it certainly evens things up
Rye is winning 7-0??? Who are they playing…. Suffern??
To Cn alumi,
Mamk won 21 games in a row including the defending state champion at Massena… you cant get any hotter than that.
Either way a Tiger team will win the championship, and the championship trophy will reside in Westchester once again.
taylor …..... the extra 5 hours will mean nothing. we are not talking about an extra days rest here.
no hype …...... big mistake to underestimate the pelham players in the 3rd period today. your blog may come back to bite you. i dont predict a score …... let the players play and the best team will win.
Rye final score?
9-0 Rye Final. Starters didn’t play much in the third. Ready for the O/Pelham winner. Looks like it is an all Southen Westchester party tomorrow at West Point. If favored Pelham wins this afernoon, it is an all Sound Shore final 4 group with the 4 schools a close bike ride apart. Long trip to Highlands Falls. Hope the fans don’t get turned back by the weather. Lets fill the place tomorrow.
the games will be played tmrw there isnt that much snow in forcast plus school cant b cancelled i highly doubt its cancelled
Good win Rye and great effort to Brewster who believe only had 14 players (not including goalies).
Rye emptied their bench (run 3 lines to start) but dont understand why they didn’t give their 2 back-up SENIOR goalies a chance to play in 3rd period?
What time tomorrow at West Point?
cause matty had a shutout so they wanted to let him have it
Taylor, as a guy who once wore Pelham colors realize that when things are looking at there worst Pelham finds a way through it
In case of snow, the Rye vs. Pelham/Ossining game would be played at Playland on Tuesday at 8pm.
Prediction : Ossining 4 Pelham 1.
Ossining will key on Flory . Game over !
Mamaroneck is dead for the nexct year or two, they are losing 12 seniors including their goalie. Mamaroneck will need time to regroup – I hope they enjot their run.
snowman where did you hear this that would be amazing??
yes Brewster did only have 14 skaters but only about 8 of them played and the defense didnt help out the situation. it was all around breakdown and MIke Miller and Ian Fleming had there chances but couldnt get anything going. Rye played good from there goalie up and they deserve to play at west point tomorrow.
Mamaroneck loses a lot, but is not dead. They return Naclerio, Christenson, Gardiner, Scott Hagan, Dean Chiapareli. Things will be interesting.
...and I forgot to mention Matt Conner.
Mamaroneck’s never dead.
Mamaroneck has 25 kids on their JV (something no other team has) and 25 kids on their modified team. Mamaroneck is never dead, whenever they lose a limb, they just grow it right back. Many people thought Mamk would stink without conner, meanwhile they are now the #2 or 3 team in the state.
Mamaroneck will at least be in the semifinals every year. I don’t see any D1 team that was young this year that will take Mamks top spot.
Mamk won’t be horrible or “dead” next year, they will still be good, they just probably won’t be a state powehouse, but as usual anyone has a shot for a section title so don’t rule them out
Anyone got a score from Pelham-Ossining
I evaluated all the teams last night, there are only a few teams coming back with most of their players this next year. Pelham, Maraoneck, Suffern and CN seem like they will be a little light next year. It should make for an interesting year. From the way I view it, Mamaroneck will need a regrouping year.
Any score Pelham V Ossining?
qssining 1 pelham 0 end of 1
any updates on pelhem v O?
Harold / Joe / Coach Orlando…
What is the Contingency Plan for inclement weather tomorrow, Is West Point a one shot / one day arena or will they reschedule the finals to another day or will it be rescheduled for another rink? Any info would be great..
It will be in Rye on Tuesday is what we heard
jb, a little light? CN graduates all their studs. Though their two good juniors will return, they will not have Willows and Shuman to feed them. Suffern graduates their studs too, and though they have several good players moving up, will they have the experience. NR graduates their stars and the question is are their any juniors who can step up? PR has a couple of very good players coming back but they do not have the depth. Nyack/TZ, young team with the question can field 18 hockey players. CS, will have 8 seniors with 3 years of varsity playing time. They will have the depth and experience. Their problem; goaltending and the coach.
Pre-season picks for final standings; Suffern, CS, PR, NR, CN, Ny/TZ
Since Section 1 will be re-aligned, it is going to be a free for all in both Rockland and Westchester County. It all begins in 280 days.
rye will beat every team you listed, if rix comes back from avon old farms to play goalie which is a strong possibility then rye will be the team to beat, they return the entire first two lines, and some solid defense but enough of next year this year is still going strong
I wasn’t kidding – in case of snow – the Rye game will be Tuesday 8pm at Playland – it comes from the Rye AD.
Pelham V O Score ?
Ice Time..
There is only one good hockey coach in Rockland County, that is why Suffern will easily win the Rockland League.
The fight for second will be goaltending dependent and I like the young kid at Pearl River to distinguish himself from the pack.
After that it’s a fight for 3rd between CS, CN and NR, who have lots of similar talent going into next year.
pelham up 2 to 1 .. end of 2
Snowman, what about the Mamk / WP game?
next year
Who is Rix? There is no goalie on any of Avon teams with that name and no goalie from this area at all.
arron rix he is a sophmore and is on the jv team at avon and lives in rye
Did Ed Wizard, pull another rabbit out of the hat? final score anyone?
any ossining pelham updates?
yo whats the score of the oss vs. pelham game now…..
To Stop now….South coach is a quality coach.
pelham wins 3-1
Rix is a very solid goalie, I played with him on travel, he is much better than the other two backups on Rye
Where would the Div 1 game be played if cancelled tomorrow?
Harold, any new posts coming up for a preview of the finals for tomorrow
