Rye and Pelham will meet again

There was no shocker in the Division II semifinals today. In a rematch of last year’s final, Pelham and Rye will meet again tomorrow at West Point. Pelham beat Ossining 3-1 and Rye beat Brewster 9-0.
Marc Flory scored twice — tying him with Johnny Marshall, who had 50 goals in the ‘87-’88 season, for most goals in a season — and Adrian Rivera scored his third goal of the season to break a 1-1 tie with 1:46 left in the second period. Gavin Lambdin, a game-time decision because of a stomach flu, made 19 saves.
Joseph Giordano scored with 5:07 left in the first period to give Ossining a 1-0 lead, and Joe Riley made 15 saves.
Earlier today, Paul Mundinger had three goals and two assists, Taka Katsuta and Ellis Beber scored twice and Matt Benincasa made 19 saves for the Garnets.
So here’s tomorrow’s tentative schedule:
Division I: No. 1 Mamaroneck vs. No. 3 White Plains, 4 p.m.
Division II: No. 1 Rye vs. No. 2 Pelham, 6:30 p.m.
I say tentative because there’s supposed to be a snowstorm coming in tomorrow night. I spoke with chairman John Orlando at the Pelham game, and he laid out a number of contingency plans. Section 1 has ice booked at Hommocks and Playland Tuesday night at 8 in case games can’t be played at West Point, though it’s also possible that the games will still be played at Tate, just later in the week (possibly Tuesday or Wednesday).
It’s also possible, if only one school decides to cancel (and it’s up to the schools, not Orlando), that one game will be played Sunday and the other game will be played Tuesday.
In any case, I will post all weather-related updates here as soon as I get them, so stay tuned. Right now our plan is still to broadcast both games over the internet tomorrow in case anyone can’t make it, and I plan on posting the previews early tomorrow morning.

Great season for Ossining. Played some great games and never let up more then 3 goals in a game. Keep your heads up boys, it was a great year.
Ossining should be proud. They played an outstanding team and played a great game. Ossining had a super season. Super job Ossining.
Seems unfair that if there is snow that the games would be played at the Hommocks and Playland. If it was set to be neutral ice from the start then it should stay that way. Makes me think that if Suffern were still in it they sure wouldn’t be heading down to Mamaroneck.
Mistake-
You’re too into believing in conspiracy theories. The only way the games would be called off at west point is if the schools decide they don’t want to send out busses in that weather. It has NOTHING to do with who is in the finals and who isn’t.
Or maybe you are right and Rob Schelling has control over the weather and was holding off all impending precipitation in an effort to nullify Mamaroneck’s home ice advantage, but now that Suffern lost last night, he has released the storm so that Mamk can get their home ice advantage and take vengence on WP for knocking him out of the playoffs. I guess you DO have a valid argument after all.
know that Pelham has some sick streak of section final championship appearances. From recent memory in the last 10 years there were only two times Pelham did not get to the sectional final and that was a semi final loss in triple OT to Mamaroneck who was a D 2 team at the time 2000 and of course in 2007 they lost to Pawling in the quarter final round. So congratulations to Pelham for the consistency.
good call Lohud. No conspiracy. I do agree that no team should get “home ice” due to a snow storm as the rules were set up at the beginning of the season to have the finals played at a nuetral site which was west point. I think if there are any cancellations all parties should agree to the nuetral site but we do not make the decisions thats for the schools and the section chairman
There was no neutral site agreement. The league was told (there was no discussion and vote) that the championship was to be played at West Point.
There was also no agreement that if West Point fell through it would be held in a neutral site. Logic would dictate that if the west point thing fell through, then we would go back to the old plan which has been the higher seed gets home ice throughout.
I really think that the Superintendents are going to cancel tomorrows games, it is supposed to be real nasty tomorrow night.
Looks like Playland and the HOmmocks are the venues on Tuesday Night.
Sorry to report—at the chshl B final tonight there was a moment of silence for Mike Mitchell who passed away on Sat.
For those who did not know him that is your loss, for those that did we lost a great hockey person.
Thoughts and prayers please.
The goalie for Pelham is Gavin Lambdin, not Graham.
Harold, did you just change the name or was I just seeing things? Hmmm. Time for some sleep I think.
is lamdin going to play tomorrow even tho hes sick
Hopefully just a 24 hour bug.
I just changed the name. Thanks for the correction. I don’t know anything about stomach flu but I assume if Gavin played today he will play tomorrow. Emerson (illness) is definitely out though.
This is straight from John Orlando: “At the spring AD’s meeting it was not voted to have the finals at a neutral site. It was voted to have the finals at West Point and after 6 months of negotiating and getting the ok, the games were set. If we could not get the permission from West Point the games would then be played at the higher seed as usual.”
He also said that getting rescheduled ice at West Point for the middle of next week is unlikely (for one, Army is hosting a playoff game Wednesday).
It would be fair if they played the Pelham vs. Rye game at Hammocks and the Mamo vs. White Plains game at Playland
GREAT YEAR OSSINING
EXPECTED OUTCOME DUE TO EASY SCHEDULE.LEAGUE 1 TEAMS PLAY BETTER TEAMS ALL YEAR.IF OSSINING PLAYED A LEAGUE 1 SCHEDULE THEY WOULD HAVE TROUBLE BEING A 500% TEAM.
SORRY.LEAGUES 3 & 4 DOES NOT TEST A GOOD TEAM ENOUGH.
That’s just stupid switch rinks? They have always had the higher seed host I don’t think it has caused anyone harm both mamk and rye won the section at away rinks since they weren’t the top seeds
Was at the Hutch this afternoon for the Pelham/O match. I was really impressed with Ossining’s work ethic. They don’t have the horses that Pelham does, but they never quit on any battle. Good job.
It ends up the way it should be. Round three with the right to advance to DII state quarters on the line. I expect a great battle. Hopefully, the same result as the last 4 times the Pelicans and Garnets have faced off.
For all those detractors of the power league set up, tomorrow’s participants finished 1,3,4,4 in league one.
As a fan of White Plains I certainly did not expect our boys to be in the final game at West Point. Once it was announced that the game would be played at West Point everyone was clear that home field advantage was out for the final game. If the snoe cancels the games the section, who committed or lets say insisted that the final be played at the Point should do the very best they can to keep it at the Point even if it pushes into Tuesday of next week. Of course we do not know ice availability but to now after the fact give or award Mamaroneck home field because of snow does not seem fair. The contingency should have been otlined when the Point was selected. I am just a fan so i am sure I am out of the loop so this is just a fans opinion
if push comes to shove and they cant play at west point, i have no problem with the higher seed getting home ice advantage like it has been the last some odd years. After all they are the higher seed and have earned it
I hope that the staunch Lohud fans can give us this moment to salute a huge hockey person, Mike Mitchell, who passed away tonight. Mike was the CHSHL hockey chairperson for years, lohud, Brooklyn and LI alike. Let’s get together on this one and pray for him and for his family. Mike was a great guy who was critically injured in an automobile accident at the end of last year. The injuries proved to be to severe for Mike to overcome.
Harold predictions for the games tomorrow?
hey, there is nothing bad about going .500 in league 1. I bet John Jay would have been ecstatic with .500. Ossining dominated parts of this game and were stung by hitting a post that would have made it 2-0 and a defenseman who has played forward all year caught out of position. If the powers that be in O-town had built a rink and not wasted million on that pool, library, and unneededly renovated the municipal building maybe they would have the depth to compete with teams that practice six days a week. it’s hard to do with half ice for 1 hr a week.
1st off, O fans were saying Pelham lacked the depth of O, hahahaha!. Mielie caused one of the goals! Pelham outworked and outplayed a vastly inferior ossining team. Marc Flory finished twice and Adrian Rivera came up big. I can’t wait for tomorrow, GO PELHAM.
Harold, you did me dirty.
Congratulations to Pelham and Rye and good luck to each in the finals. For those on the blog who are bashing both Division II and all teams but League 1, I would say this. No doubt the tough schedule helps all League 1 teams in the sectionals and the top teams are tops for a reason. But a little more respect is due to some of the others. Ossining gave Mamo and Pelham all they could handle and Somers/North Salem beat semi-finalist Mahopac, scored 4 off Pelham and was down just 5-4 late in the third. So, hats off to the top teams but please—a little more respect for the top League 3 and 4 teams!
Lets not go there. Both Rye and Pelham have been great programs for years and Pelham I hate to say has been great for decades. Ossining had a great season, and was a great team but this is the first team that has had this type of success form Ossining. A rink in Ossining or more practices might not have made that much difference. Ossinings best players come from travel so even if they had a rink some of those kids would still put travel over high school. Didnt Ossining lose a high calibre kid because he insisted on playing travel? The rink or more practice would only help if the kids and of course parents stayed loyal to the high school team like Ryes kids do
How early in the day will decisions be made about cancellations
Pelham was/is definitely a deeper team than Ossining. But to say that having your own rink, with the coach running the rink, getting to schedule your games to not conflict with your travel players schedules and having 4 ice slots a week vs. Ossining splitting 1 hour slot per week with their modified benders doesnt impact the programs is absurd. That is the reason Pelham has more depth… because the kids that arent stars get all that ice to catch up to the travel players and the travel players get extra ice as well. Pelham def would have been shook down 2 – 0. Ossining made a couple errors that cost them a game they DOMINATED at times. # 21 is a beast but everyone else was just AIGHT. Many O players could be like those players with extra ice and their own rink. Why do you think Pelhman and Rye dominate? Better drinking water?
Get Real.
Pelham kids have heart.
Everyone is just aight? Dzenis is faster than anyone on your team, and 44 on O would probably be a second or third line forward for Pelham.
Hey, i will admit, that Oss had a great year, but i would have to say that even with more ice time, it would not have changed that mcuh, because it all comes down to commitment to the team and pure finishing. That’s what team’s like mamk suff, rye, pel, and whit pl has. Hockey is a team sport, and it is the High school commitment to th eteam that you make, that puts rye above all else. P.S. anyone have a score on the Rye pel game at point? or is it canc?
