Final: Mamaroneck 5, Massena 4, 2OT
The Tigers win it on a goal by Rob Fine with 1:59 left in the second sudden-death OT period.
Mamaroneck advances to next Saturday’s Division I state semifinals in Utica.
Update 14: Lots of back-and-forth action in the first OT, but no goals. It’s still 4-4 heading into the second sudden-death period.
Update 13: We’re going into overtime, tied at 4-4. There will be four seven and a half minute, sudden-death periods. If it’s still tied after that, there will be a shootout. The first OT period will start in three minutes.
Update 12: Scott Hagan scores off a feed from Dean Chiapparelli early in the third period. It’s tied at 4-4.
Update 11: Harold reports that it’s Massena 4, Mamaroneck 3 after two years. Massena scored four goals on seven shots.
Update 10: It’s hard to believe it was scoreless after one period. Things have really opened up now. Massena has gone back in front on Nick Pichette’s second goal of the game. It’s 4-3 Raiders.
Update 9: Mamaroneck, still on the power play, answers with a goal by Rob Fine. It’s tied 3-3.
Update 8: Massena’s Connor Reilly scores a short-handed goal to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead late in the second period. There’s four minutes remaining in what has been an action-packed period.
Update 7: After Mamaroneck had been controlling play, David Henry breaks through with a goal for Massena to tie it at 2-2.
Update 6: Sean Hagan scores off a 2-on-1 break to snap a 1-1 tie and give the Tigers the lead with just under eight minutes left in the second period.
Update 5: Mamaroneck ties it at 1-1 off a scramble in front of the Massena net. The goal has been credited to Tim Taussig. There’s now 10 minutes remaining in the period.
Update 4: Massena scores first on a goal by Nick Pichette. It’s 1-0 Massena with 12 minutes to go in the second period.
Update 3: It’s 0-0 after one period. As the score indicates, it’s been an evenly played game.
Update 2: It’s scoreless midway through the first period.
Update 1: Harold reports the start of the game was delayed about 25 minutes and has just now gotten under way.

did he say why the game was delayed joe?

Good Luck Mamaroneck
Mountie Style –
They were just running behind schedule.
Joe:
Paint the scene for us…..is the rink full, how many Mamaroneck fans came up, are the Massena fans loud, is the rink new or old, does Mamaroneck look on their game or slowed by “bus legs”, shots on goal every once in a while.
You’re our eyes and ears now…....
Stripes –
I’ll get that info from Harold who is at the game. I’m back at the office.
4-3 Massena. Not sure how much time is left.
1:30 left in the 2nd, 4-3 Massena.
Still 4-3 Massena after 2.
Also, for Pelham the road is looking better. Burke Catholic beat Salmon River 4-0 meaning Burke & Pelham meet eachother on Saturday up in Utica. Pelham should be able to get by Burke and make it to the championship.
Harold reports there were more than 1,200 fans at the start of the game. He estimates of that amount, there are only 50-75 Mamaroneck fans. And yes, the Massena fans are very loud. He says it’s a pretty old rink, with a banner from the early 1970s on display.
Scott Hagan just scored to make it 4-4.
Well this is close… and frightening.
Gotta give the announcers on the internet radio some props – - they are calling the game very well and neutrally.
Sounds like the Massena team is a very different team that Mamk saw a few weeks ago and are in their groove.
Let’s hope that the 3rd period magic that the Tigers have shown all year comes through in the last few minutes (or OT….)
NICE – - Mamk Power Play at 1:50!! All I hear from Massena is David Henry and Plichette; a two person team.
GO TIGERS!!!
OT BABY OT
4-4
Two years in a row – - Overtime in the state quarterfinals with MAMK vs. Massena. I KNOW there’s going to be a diffrent outcome this year.
GO TIGERS!!!!
Jackson is due!
Sounds like Luke Glaser has shaken off a rough 2nd period (7 shots on; four goals), and played an awesome 3rd period. Keep it up in OT.
anybody know who has controled the game so far, is it that even, what are shots on goal for each team? Sounds like Glaser had a rough 2nd period
DOUBLE OT BABY DOUBLE OT
4-4
I’ve been listening to the game all through – - it is truly an even game. After 2 periods, the shots on goal were 27 Mamk, and 14 Massena. But 3rd period and OT sound even-steven.
This game will be determined by which team has better conditioning. Sounds like they are both exhausted.
YES!
Robby Fine Game winner.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ROBBIE FINE SCORES—Hello Utica
ROBBYY FINNEE!!
I was doing the Massena Voodoo Dance…and it worked
Holy crap what a game!
MAMARONECK GOING TO FINAL FOUR 5-4 IN DOUBLE OT ROB FINE GOAL
Listening to the radio, if there are only 50-75 MAMK fans there, they have HUGE LUNGS!!!!
Utica here we come. Go TIgers. Go Pelicans.
First ever Mamaroneck win in the states?
Awesome game.
Wish I was there…...
Thanks to the Massena radio guys…..great job.
Two more mountains to climb.
Go Tigers.
zweig was amazing and hurray to the whole team
Congrats Coach Chap / Mamaroneck Team!
Jerry / John at WMSA Radio are exceptional play by play commentators, can we take up a fund to hire them for Utica
Keep rolling Tigers these are memories you will cherish a lifetime!
Massena announcers were great even in defeat.
Two guys that just loved a great game.
GOOD LUCK MAMARONECK IN THE FINAL FOUR!!!
Pretty good day for the lower Hudson Valley. We’ve taken a lot of flak from the upstaters about how superior their hockey is….cough cough cough
Pelham 6 Qbury 2
Burke Catholic 4 Salmon River 0
Mamo 5 Massena 4
Might open some eyes.
Who is Mam’k playing next?

Nothing like The Voodoo Dance to seal the deal…....)
Our best to Messena who was a noble opponent, pushing Mamaroneck to the limit tonight after losing 6-1 a month ago.
Thanks Joe Lombardi for carrying us along on the blog and the updates. You made it a night to remember.
Mr. Chiapparelli takes another group of dedicated and talented young people to reach for a championship.
Congratulations to these young men and their parents.
Few and far between.

Read both papers. Journal News and the Queensbury paper. Queensbury coach thinks Flory is a one way player. Really? Maybe if his forwards were two way players Flory would not have got so many goals. Heres a team that lost two games all season and the got beat up yesterday by Pelham and they are worrying about Florys defense. Did he watch the game? After Pelham pounded in three power play goals and took the lead Pelham went into that defensive thing or trap. After that the only decent chance Queensbury had was the disputed goal they scored. Obviously Pelham and Flory do play defense. Queensbury should take a lesson. In the section final Flory did not score a goal he had two assists and played well. Pelham won that one too. Here is a kid who has had an incredible season and instead of focusing on that people are looking for negatives. Pelham has always been a defensive team and everyone on that team plays it well. This team could not have destroyed a two loss team like Queensbury without contributions from a lot of players. Great win Pelham, sore losers Queensbury. Mamaroneck went into a true combat zone and came out victorious. The boys played well and battled back against a team who eats playoff games and state championships. I am hoping as a life long Tiger fan for the boys to win two games this weekend. They can do it, its our year. Nice to see Mamaroneck back in Utica for the first time in 10 seasons and Pelham there for the second time in 4 years. Good luck to both teams
Congrats to both Pelham and Mamaroneck!!! Bring it home next week in Utica!!!
Congrats to Mamo! Looks like you guys should walk into the finals. Niagra-Wheatfield? 16-10? I believe several of our section 1 teams would beat them rather easily. White Plains,Suffern,CN,Pelham. Take your pick. They beat Monroe woodbury 3-1 to get to the final four. Monroe woodbury was no power house this year and took several beatings at the hands of section one hockey this season. Mamo vs West Genny in the finals. It will all come down to goal tending. Luke will have to play the whole game like he played in the third and OT periods for Mamo to beat Greece or WG. He cant have a period like he did in the second period yesterday.
Great win by Mamaroneck, driving 7 hours to Massena, getting off the bus, and beating the defending state champion in their backyard. They survived a very shaky 2nd period and shut them down in the 3rd and OT. Mamaroneck will have to bust to beat Niagara, don’t be complacent by just getting to the final 4. Mamaroneck is the best team in the state… now you have to prove it.
any new posts coming soon harold?
For those who care-
Canisius 5 Farrell 1 State Catholic Final
If you want to compare scores. Canisius beat Niagra-Wheatfield 6-2 but lost to Potsdam 2-1 very early in the season. Good luck to both Mamk and Pelham
Witz put a line together that had a little of everything, He put Flory the best offensive player and probably the best player in the section with Mamone who is the best passer in the section and plays great defense and is physical. By doing this it has made Flory free to go and attack. Smart hockey. You add 2 D men who move the puck in Dzenis and Harms and you really got something. With Emerson who is excellent all the way around those 5 are a tough set. For my money Flory and Mamone are 2 of the best forwards in Westchester and if Emerson is back next week WATCH OUT.
Iona beat Burke ealry in the Season and Stepinac lost . Not a lot of depth with Burke…......
great job mamo, repping westchester hockey well
Topshelf-
Nice to see you back. No report on the CHSHL JV championship series?
Topshelf –
Sorry, the 9 in 09 didn’t register.
Gosh, I really miss all the JV Iona blog entries. It makes me sad
I can’t seem to get on with my day unless I find out what great potential the IONA JV team has.
WHo really cares about Pelam and Mamaroneck.
I got a fever…. and the only prescription is more Iona JV info!!!!!
Not sure you can analyze what coach is doing with the lines at Pelham. I will say this after watching them quite a bit. Coach looks like he insists or is very firm on all his forwards playing defense. #21 does it just like everyone else. It appears that its an illusion in some peoples minds that he is “hanging” I watch and say no way!. He might be one of the best defensive forwards they have. He was penalty kill against Queensbury yesterday and Queensbury did not score once on power play.
Does anyone know if next weekend’s game will be available on the internet (radio or video)?
As was said before, the announcers from Massena were great. Better than Matt Laughlin and Sherry Ross thats for sure.
How about LoHud hires the MAssena guys for the weekend?
Flory definitely looks for opportunities to get behind the D for a breakaway here and there…. that does not mean he is selfish, it just means that he has very good instincts to score goals. He plays defense OK, I would not say he is a maven in the defensive zone by any stretch.
I do think that the Queensbury coaches comment was stupid, and made him look like a bitter baby. Maybe if he taught his defensemen to stay deep and not to get caught up ice, maybe those breakaways don’t happen. I saw one goal on channel 12 on queensbury, owch, with that kind of golatending I don’t see how they got that far in the first place.
Marc looks for the breakaway when he sees his team about to cause a turnover, that is smart. He doesn’t skate back and forth on the blue line when Pelham doesn’t have possession. Marc does what he has to do to win. On the penalty kill Marc forechecks and plays great defense, they were 5/5 on the pk yesterday. PELHAM has 5 great kids on the ice at all times and they all do their jobs to win games. It’s not a one man show.
The article shouldn’t have been so centered around Marc. Marc didn’t stop 23 of 25 shots. Marc didn’t pass himself the puck on 3 goals. Pelham has given up 4 playoff goals in their past 3 games. Pelham is a team and the team deserves credit.
offthepots,
iona jv beat Burk Catholic jv
14-0 earlier in the year.
This mirage that #21 from Pelham is waiting outside the blue line awaiting a pass for a breakaway is a joke. The times I have seen him he is working to get the puck or blocking a shot or making a pass or checking a guy. The reason it looks like he is out side the zone is that he is so quick and so strong and can get past defenders either with his speed or strength. He takes it and can stick handle through traffic
