Update: I will be taking the rest of my furlough from Thursday-Sunday. Because of this I am legally barred from checking voice mail and e-mail or updating the blog. Please contact John Humenn (jhumenn@lohud.com) or Mark Teirstein (mteirste@lohud.com) if you need anything this week. Also, hopefully they can update the rest of the all-league teams in my absence.

The exceptional senior game is Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Ice Hutch. The all-section dinner is next Wednesday. When we’re talking about postseason honors, there’s two ways to make an argument — raising your player, or bashing the other player — so let’s focus on the first one and keep it positive. If you think someone crosses the line let John or Mark know.

Thanks and I’ll be back on Monday. I’ll be checking in with all the top teams for next year and giving status reports and some early predictions, so stick around and we’ll get through the offseason together.

    STERVE!

  2. hockeyfan

    Wait just a sec here-
    Zweig doesn’t even make all-league??

This just proves that nobody knows anything about hockey whatsoever. Zweig is the best defenseman on the second best team in the state. And he gets nothing? Wow coaches realley messed up on this one…Also, not a single underclassman on either all-star team? How about Broderick? Byrnes should definitely be on the team, not honorable mention. Lastly, how does Fleming, who was top 5 in points I believe not make the league 2 all-star team. Would easily take him over Kapnick. Just wow.

  3. d-fence

adam zweig in addition to being a solid defenseman is one of the most sporting and nicest kids you can find. Hes the kind of kid that any parent would want their son to be congragulations on a grat season Mamaroneck and get ready for next year

  4. Go Mariners

12 out of 60 players are Mariners. They are on the 16 & 18 teams going to NY States this weekend. Good Luck to all of them!

  5. sec1 fan

There are a set amount of players per team that are selected all-league. So if you are complaining about your player not being on a list, you would have to take out a player, from the same team, in order for the other kid to get on.

  6. LoHud Hockey

I guess since Harold has to take the next couple of days off, it’s up to me. Here;s league 3:

  7. LoHud Hockey

Trying to post League 4 but it won’t let me. Not sure why, no one’s name seems offensive. John & Mark, if you are reading this, please put up my post with the league 4 award winners. Thanks.

  8. L-4

    Harold,

Thanks for posting the L-3 and L-4 all-league teams…No wait – they’re not here…We all know that the elite teams are in L-1 and L-2, but we do play some decent hockey down here on the L-3 and L-4 level – and we do have some pretty good players….Thanks to LoHud Hockey for the L-3 names…And I’m sure he will get the L-4 stuff posted later today…Maybe The Journal News should hire LoHud Hockey and give him the high school hockey beat next season…To be honest, this has been an ongoing problem all year – the total lack of coverage and lack of concern with any teams that play below the L-2 level…I’m not saying to cover a L-4 game rather than a Suffern-North game, but a note here and there during the season would have been nice…You know, all of us down here in L-3 and L-4 are consumers, too – we do buy The Journal News and frequent the website…

  9. L-3/L-4

Bravo- Once again forgotten. Some of the 3&4 players are waiting for the lists to be published, knowing their coaches aren’t teachers so how would they be told? Thank you Lo-Hud for L-3, that helps me personally, but we can’t wait to see L-4 too.

  10. john orlando

    answer to L-4

The lists were sent to Harold by me. By the time he received them he was on furlough and could not respond as by orders from the Journal News.

Blame me for doing them in order when I got home from a long meeting 1,2,3,4. By the time he received 3 and 4 his furlough had started and that is why LoHud picked up the slack.

Harold is a great guy and gave his heart and soul to hockey for the past 2 years. We should all thank him from the bottom of our hearts, I know I do.

  11. L-3/L-4

Thanks for the clarification. It’s tough “down here at the bottom”. We know we have talent, but our school size doesn’t allow it to be noticed.
No offense to Harold, I’m sure he does what he can. How are league 4 players to find out?

  12. L-4

    John,

Thanks for answering…Could you post the L-4 names for us?

  13. hockeymom87

League 3 and 4 are rarely ever mentioned here by Harold – when asked he told me “You know you are in League 3” – I guess he thinks we are not worth it – what a shame!

  14. 2 #2's

Wake up people and read what Harold wrote. He is on FURLOGH, for those that do not know what that means it means he does not work, he does not get paid and BY LAW he cannot pickup email, blog, write anything, perform any work functions at all. Oh and BTW he doesnt get paid either. HE IS Not on vacation. Sorry to inform you the lower leagues do not get the same recognition in any HS sport. Just a fact of life.

Sorry I typed for 25 minutes but it would not let me post.

    Just like LoHud

  17. nuts

Hockeymom87, did you actually call him? How bad do you need to see your kid in the paper or on this blog? very sad!

  18. Rye

Question: Why did Rye get 5 spots and Suffern only 4?

  19. suffern

Answer: whoever voted for the players thought that is how it should be. Simple

  20. suffern

It is very simple people, we can argue and complain forever that this person deserved this, and this person didn’t deserve that. Everyone has their opinions and I would bet there was some disagreement when the coaches discussed what players to include. I don’t agree 100% but what you going to do, life isn’t always fair. If your kid didn’t get what you thought he should, maybe its a good lesson. Throughout our lives every so often we feel we get the shaft for one reason or another, this will not be the first time this will happen to these kids. Just hope they keep their heads up and keep fighting forward. And by being a whiny pain in the a$$ isn’t a very good example on how they should handle this disappointment.

  21. Rye

Suffern, you sound pretty whiney yourself. I havent’ seen anyone whine or complain. The list looks pretty right on to me.

  22. L4 honors

LoHud – can you post all the honors for all the leagues on your website?

  23. cluless

trying to find replay of hagan/mamone on varsity central live, but can’t. can anyone point me in the right direction?

  24. wnh

Not puttin Zweig on all league sends a bad message to Mamk youth hockey. Basically implying that character means nothing, not to mention sportsmanship, teamwork, unselfish play , never took selfish penalties, never quit the team. Just sad.
Skill wise he was th ebest defensive player, he is also a great teammate, he respects his teachers, is a great student etc. He was just as big a part of Mamaronecks success as Sean Hagan was. Certainly not knocking hagan, he was awesome and deserves everything he got. My opinion is that Zweig deserved honors more than a different player whom I won’t name. Not sure how you honor kids who quit on their team.

  25. hockeymom87

No I did not call Harold – that is not the point – the point is that all leagues should be reported on.

  26. Al Bundy

I doubt their is any real discussion among coaches on who make all-league.

Based on what place you finish in the regular season standings dictates how many all-league slots you get. So even if White Plains had upset Mamo in the section 1 final, Maom would have more slots for all league than White Plains who finished 3rd.

Assuming the coach nominates his all-league players, it is the teams coach who solely decides who is all-league, honorable mention, and not included.

  27. fanotgame

Pretty solid All Section list. 14 of the 17 were previously annointed as All State. Hard to keep them off the All Section team. The three new additions were all worthy. Like any list of this kind, the top 6 or 7 were no brainers and the next 10 could be interchanged with the next 10 that didn’t quite get on the list. My only gripe would be that since goalie is generally considered the most important position, how come only 2 goalies made the list of 17?

Zweig not making the All Section or All league teams (he was HM ALL League One) was probably a function of being part of a team that already had a bunch of kids on those teams. You can only have so many from any one team. Heck, Rye, which was one of the 6 state ranked teams from the Section, was the only team to beat state finalist Mamo at home and beat state finalist Pelham 2 times, had no one on the All Section team, while the other 5 state ranked teams in Section One had between 2 and 4 players each on the All Section team. Maybe that explains why there were 5 Garnets mentioned in the League One All League list. A larger group of solid players that didn’t quite qualify for All Section status.

Those that were singled out should be happy and those that were not but still have eligibility next year should work a little harder to get the nod next season.

  28. Al Bundy

Sometimes it is easier for coaches to look at kids who are “intangible”, team-first, character kids, positional hockey players and put them as honorable mention, rather than all-league.

Not saying it is right, but how many Norris Trophy’s has Nick Lidstrom and Ray Bourque won? Lots. How many Norris Trophy’s has Scott Stevens won? None.

  29. LoHud Hockey

There will be a page up on the Section 1 website soon with post season honors, I need to comb through it to fix typos, reformat it, etc. For the time being, I put up a bare bones version of it. You can view it by clicking here:

    http://www.section1hockey.com/AllLeague.pdf

  30. ?

I know people say you can debate All league and Section selections but ZWEIG come on the kid was outstanding he should have gotten at least all section, and now he doesn’t even get all league, look at the other kids like McGee, he is good but seriously his plus minus must be great. Personally I think he is better than Hagan and only gets caught under his shadow, he may not have a faster shot than Hagan but Zweig is a very smart defenseman with much greater skating skills, he takes the body, and has a much more accurate shot. That’s just terrible said what message are they sending Zweig won 2 sportsmanship awards from the state and section, Like WNH said the section is basically implying that character means nothing, not to mention sportsmanship, teamwork, unselfish play , and not taking selfish penalties.

  31. L4 honors

    Thank you LoHud !!

  32. Hoseee

The sporstmanship award is just a bone thrown at the kid to kind of placate him, he should throw that bone back where it came from.
Character does not matter at MHS. The kid was outstanding all year.

  33. fanotgame

To Al Bundy- not so sure that the various league All Star vote went exactly as you say. Rye finished ahead of Pelham in League One, yet only 1 Rye player was on the League One All Star team while 3 Pelham players were on it. Rye did have a bunch of honorable mentions. So, the voting must have been a little more than just coaches allocating slots earned thru final league standings.

  34. stop crying

Enough with your crying and whining already. He is a good player, he got an award, he went to states…. your coming on here and complaining and complaining is not going to change the list or make the kid feel better. Move ON…

  35. suffern1

Does anyone know who gets invited to play in the exceptional Senior game on Sunday. Obviously seniors, but is it from all four leagues?

  36. suffern1

    Honorable Mention seniors?

  37. #1 Section

Too bad they don’t have a tournament with the all stars from each section against each other.

  38. rockland

who will be the top 2 lines for suffern and mamo i want to try to compare the two teams for next year

  39. future

    suffern lines
    jaeger . nicholson, redgate
goetz, baker . up for grabs
    d
    norwin , fuchs, delaney,
good thing is only two seniors next year out of list so year after should be fun

  40. looking ahead

just looking ahead, i believe conference 2 could be the best overall with mamo, pelham, white plains, scarsdale, etb, sleepy and new roc.offensivly i dont know who is best, defensively i would go with conference 2 maybe 3, but goalie is no doubt 1, between glaviano, fatone, delavergne, riley and chiapparino that conference is stacked at that position.

  41. WHY BOTHER

Why bother blogging… it always winds up that the teams with decent youth hockey and rinks in their home town win the most
    Mamaroneck has hommocks
    Suffern has SOR
    Pelham has Ice Hutch
    White Plains has ebersole
    Rye has Playland
    Clarkstown has Palisades
Not sure why Brewster always stinks though, and not sure why New Ro was not better while they had new roc, but it seems like it is almost impossible to have a real good high school team without a rink in your town. Fox Lane won a couple of D2 titles without a rink nearby, but that is about all.

  42. in the stands

Mamo lines, look like Scott Hagan,Naclerio ,Chiapparelli, Gardiner,Matt Conner, fergurson, Defense,Taussig,Christiansen, Plett,Schanz

  43. LMC-TV

Just a reminder to everyone, LMC-TV broadcasted Mamaroneck’s state semifinal and state championship games last weekend.

You can watch the semifinal at 8pm Friday-Sunday on channel 77 for Cablevision subscribers, 34 on Verizon. The DI championship game will air IMMEDIATELY following the semi. (According to their schedule, it’s going to air at 9:47pm).

Harold made an appearance during the 1st intermission of the semifinal game.

  44. momak

Gardiner at mamk is not coming back, he is going to prep school somewhere.

  45. mamo

if it is true what momak is saying about gardiner, that will deffinetly give suffern the edge over mamaroneck next year. gardiner is a big time player for the tigers.

  46. ???

What makes you say he is a big time player? I did not notice anything over the top during the whole playoff run.
Suffern will be better than Mamk just because Sufferns D and goaltending will be significantly better than Mamk. Mamk will not score like they did this year. In my opinion Mamk had one of the best offenses in the state. Scott Hagan will be Mamks best player next year, and their leading scorer for the next 2 years.

  47. Al Bundy

I like Suffern’s 2 returning D-men, but also like Taussig and Christiansen on Mamo. Mamo probably has stronger returning forwards. Who are the goalies for either team next year?

White Plains maybe better than both those teams if they can also fill their goaltending position adequately.

I’m noticing a pattern…the traditional power teams all have goaltending question marks. Some of the areas most skilled goalies, Delavergne, Glaviano, Riley, Fatone, etc. labor for more of the middl-of-the-road teams.

  48. Mamo Next Year

Rumors were that Gardiner and Christiansen were both thinking of going to prep schools last year, but agreed with each other to come back for the big chance to win a state title.

  49. seniors

Does anyone know who is playing in the senior game?

  50. Ta-Da

    Mamk
    F-Joe Naclerio 6-1 Junior, 11g 15a 26 points
    F-Dean Chiapparelli 5-9 155 Sophomore, 4g 16a 20 points
    F-Robby Gardiner 5-9 165 Sophomore, 5g 2a 7 points
    F-Scott Hagan 6-1 175 Sophomore, 20g 10a 30 points
    F-Matt Conner 6-1 160 Junior, 14g 10a 24 points
    D-Sam Christiansen 6-2 205 Sophomore, 3g 18a 21 points
    D-Tim Taussig 5-2 180 Junior, 3g 8a 11 points
    Goalie-Chris Buly 6-0 200 Junior
    MINUTES -188.5
    SHOTS-91
    SAVES-80
    G/A -11
    SV -87.91
    GAA-2.62

  51. goalie's

goalies for mamo next year will either be chris buly or matt weiner… looks like matt weiner will be the number one. buly got a little more time this year b/c matt joined the team halfway through the year

  52. cool guy

these new conferences next year are not good for the league

  53. mamo

so are they going to prep school this year?

  54. Ta-Da

Unless you a phenom, I don’t understand why these kids would go to a prep school (besides education of course) as an underclassman, they should wait and go for 13th grade (PG year) if they plan on playing college hockey, they should wait until they are more mature physically.

  55. who knows??

It is confusing as to why kids go to prep if its for hockey. If its for education then understood if its for hockey they should be a phee nom in public hockey first. a lot of times parents and kids think they are better than they really are. You should be in top of the league if you decide to go to prep to play hockey. Prep hockey is tough and very competitive

  56. off the post

    To Ta-Da
The kids are not phenoms. Just very good high school players.
The youngster had a real tough game vs. Greece.
As far as Buly and Weiner are concerned in goal for Mamaroneck, I don’t know if Weiner is eligible, if he is, then he will be the starter.

  57. Tiger fan

Anybody know who’s playing in the exceptional senior’s game today at the Ice Hutch?

  58. Coach

The All-Senior game should be very competetive today if the all-stars can attend, many good players didn’t make it.

  59. Stop Now

Anybody have updates from tier II and tier III states? How are midget Mariners doing? Other nearby, if not local, teams are Ice Time and Great Neck.

  60. All County

anyone know when All-County awards are coming out? Here’s my prediction for Rockland. Again, I believe the 5 skaters could be of any position (forward or defense)

    First Team:
    Matt Willows (CN)
    Jake Shuman (CN)
    Zac Hiller (Suffern)
    Sean O’Conner (NR)
    Greg McCarron (Suffern)
    Paul Gabriel (Suffern)

    Secnd Team:
    Johnny Hill (Suffern)
    Jake Jaeger (Suffern)
    Mike Kapnick (CN)
    Kevin Norwin (Suffern)
    Craig Meany (NR)
    Chris McIndoe (CN)

  61. Al Bundy

If we are not going strictly by position:

    Rockland First Team
    Matt Willows, CN
    Jake Shuman, CN
    Zac Hiller, Suffern
    Sean O’Conner, North Rockland
    Greg McCarron, Suffern
    Paul Gabriel, Suffern

    Rockland Second Team
    Johnny Hill, Suffern
    Kevin Norwin, Suffern
    Craig Meany, North Rockland
    James Eberhardt, North Rockland
    Evan Byrnes, CN
John Garcia, Nyack/Tappan Zee (most under-the-radar)
    Chris Macindoe, CN

    Other Honorables
    Jake Jaeger, Suffern
    Mike Kapnick, CN
    Paul Moreau, Pearl River
    Tom Conway, Pearl River
    Eric Jacobs, CS
    Brenden Myers, CS

  62. Al Bundy

Oops..I put 7 on the second team, so I’d move Garcia to honorable mention. It’s close. He is a very good player and would be on most top lines for teams in Rockland.

  63. Al Bundy

Mike Meigh from Nortn Rockland also should be an honorable mention for Rockland.

  64. sec1 fan

    First Team Westchester/Putnam:
    F: Flory (Pel)
    F: Jackson (Mamk)
    F: Marasco (SNS)
    D: Hagan (Mamk)
    D: Dzenis (Pel)
    G: Glaser (Mamk)

    Second Team:
    F: Mamone (Pel)
    F: Burdick (P/D)
    F: Fine (Mamk)
    D: McGee (WP)
    D: Zweig (Mamk)
    G: Benincasa (Rye)

    HM:
    McCarick (WP)
    Mastrocola (Pac)
    Hagan (ETB)
    Mundinger (Rye)
    Urban (RTH)
    Oliviero (Scars)
    Ciotti (ETB)

  65. Maria Pellicone

Exceptional Senior Game scheduled for 4pm Sunday March 22.

Chris Pellicone, Team Captain and Senior from Clarkstown South, was invited to play in today’s contest. Arrived at arena at 3pm only to find that game had been re-scheduled and played earlier at 1pm. Neither Chris or South coach were made aware of schedule change.
I see they did not let you know that game was rescheduled either. Your blog stil lists game time as 4pm

Very poor communication on the part of the organizers.

  66. stupid timing

You have the mariners, ice time and vipers 18u teams at states. That took away atleast 15-20 players.

  67. The Cash Cab

    Exceptional Senior Game-

Flory and his line were there, Willows and Shuman, some Suffern, Rye, and Mamk kids (not sure who), Halpin, Sullivan, Perrelle, Eberhardt and Meany, Rofofsky, Ricci, and someone else from JJ, Oliver, Lambdin.

    North won 11-3.

Unless you start pushing the senior game into April, there will always be state tournament conflicts, than holiday conflicts or spring break conflicts, spring sport conflicts, etc.

This should be a special game marking the end of a hs players career. I’m sorry to hear that poor communication caused some to miss the game. That’s pretty basic and should not occur.

  70. North Fan

Way to go North! LOL Guess Rockland Demolished Westchester! Good Going!

  71. because...

There are no good travel teams in rockland.

    Mrs. Pellicone-

The change in the time for the exceptional seniors game was made earlier this week. An email was sent out to all of the coaches & AD’s to notify them of this. Both the CS head coach & AD were included on the email. Not sure why neither of them would have notified you or your son.

  74. HAHAHAHA

The Carmel coach (or whoever decides these things) put somebody on Carmel ahead of Glaviano for all league and he only got honorable mention!?!?!? XD I know Marc and he wont care, but i like the suddle reminders that high school hockey is a joke

  75. HAHAHAHA

I looked again and there were 2 people on carmel that were all league. When i saw that i actually started cracking up.

  76. The Cash Cab

North had kids from Suffern, CN, North Rockland, JJ, and Sullivan from KPV, Halpin from SHI, Griggs from Lakeland, Oliver from Carmel, and Gorman from SNS.

South had kids from Pelham, Mamk (although i dont think all of them were), one kids from rye, I think some kids from RTH (if they’re schools color is purple).

Each team had one goalie, Gorman for North and Lambdin for South, and they played 3 20 minute periods (with an ice cut in the middle of the second)

  77. tHuh ?

    Hey hahahaha-

Start paying attention in spelling class kid before you embarrass yourself any further, or is that too subtle for you ?

  78. hshockeyfan

I was a fan at the game. It was a very entertaining game and most of the better players were there. I am from Northern westchester and I can say equivocally that the kid from C North stood out heads and shoulders above the rest. And that included the Suffern stars, Pelhams first line and Mamo’s best forward. He is just flat out fun to watch. A couple other kids stood out but this kid had his way out there.

  79. Mariners

Mariner midget minor and major teams made it to the semi finals and lost. The minors lost in a shoot out and the majors in regulation time. Awesome effort from both teams. Congratulations to both teams and the organization!

  80. The Cash Cab

anyone have stats for the senior game?

  81. fanotgame

Mariners Majors lost a close one in State Semis to Great Neck (eventual champs). These two teams played each other about six times this season-all of the games were tight with a bunch of ties and each side getting wins. GN got the important one. Not really a town team either. Bunch of ex Apple Core kids with some college club players on the roster. Mariner’s Burdick played like an animal. Scored the game winner in an important prelim game shortly after the coach put his dislocated shoulder (caused by hard crash into the boards)back in place on the bench. Pretty good hockey upstate.

  82. mamk

    the cash cab-

the mamk kids were Jackson and Zweig

  83. high school a joke?

    To HAHA
High school hockey is a joke? I guess that means travel is not? Well at least high school hockey gives awards and recognizes its athletes. Travel does not. If the kid you thought should have gotten an award and didnt he probably didnt deserve it. Deal with it

  84. ....

Marc Glaviano tryly deserved to be all league without a doubt. Without him they would have not even won any games. I remember the coach did that to him last year too. Its all about politics I guess.

  85. Exceptional

    EXCEPTIONAL SENIORS RULE!

  86. come on now

Come on now, if you ask all the best players in the section if high school hockey is a joke, they will agree…

  87. Who would say that?

Who are the players who would say that?

  88. let me think

Every all-league or honorable mention player outside of mamo, pelham, suffern and rye.

  89. oh that explains it

let me think says “every all league player or hon mention outside of Mamo, Pelham Suff Rye”

That makes perfect sense. You must mean all the “superstars” that are so great and clearly better than all the high school players. Meanwhile none of them has ever won a thing. On the high school teams they play on they cant get there teams to win anything. Thats why its the same four teams in the finals every year. Add White Plains as another quality team too. You go play your travel thats fine but dont knock high school kids especially when you cannot beat any of them

  90. Yah

Halpin, Prunesti, Marasco, Burdick, Miele, Pesce, Belger Basmajian, Delavergne, Feliu, Glaviano, Hagen, Sherding, Ciotti, Macnamara, Gluck, Oliverio, Abramo and Miller are all a bunch of losers. Winning nationals with the avelanche, states with the vipers, or getting to the state finals with the mariners is unimportant and just for “superstars” who think they can win something. If any of them were actually any good they should have been able to carry their teams to a section championship easily. The reason the same 4 or 5 teams are in the finals every year are because they are always the teams with all the best players. None of those players have anything on a Hill or a Fine and none of those goalies can touch Lambdin.

  91. heyYah

    Yah

u make me laugh have u seen theses kids play tht u just listed. like seriously lambdin plays ona good team and the other kids r a one man team with no one eles but them and i think they do a pretty good job. if u put them one on one with those players u named i would put my money on the kids from the vipers and mariners to win

  92. bd

High School hockey is a joke on some of the school teams. Teams in the lower leagues even league 2, have a lot of kids who don’t take their teams serious, show up when they want to. High school hockey is certainly not a joke to Suffern, Mamaroneck, Pelham and Rye and White Plains and Mahopac. The coaches and schools take their teams very serious. Some of the lower level teams take their teams very serious too, but don’t have the firepower. So to players on a team like Somers who also play high level travel… yes I am sure high school hockey is a joke. Pelham and Mamk made it to the state championship games this year… I don’t think you can get there if you treat high school hockey like a joke.

  93. so happy

The best news was hearing that the Clarkstown North coach did not win League 2 coach of the year. I am just confused as to why Coach O’Neil did not win the honors considering ETB finished in 2nd Place? What a bunch of garbage.

  94. Yah

heyYah, dont worry i was being sarcastic. btw i heard yesterday that the Gulls team that Hagen, Macnamara, McGee and Pesce are on just won teir 1 states this weekend so congrats to them. I know McGee and Pesce were on the viper team that won last year for teir 2 and Hagen and Macnamara were both on that Avelanche team that won teir 1 NATIONALS a few years ago. But im sure oh that explains it still thinks “none of them has ever won a thing.”

  95. must be a weak tournament

Glad to see the local players win their travel tournaments. Question as to why these kids do not totally dominate the high school hockey scene. They are very good players on the high school league but they are not the best, although they are not seniors so maybe they will dominate high school at some point. I gather I expect players who are on national championship calibre teams to be able to be the best players in high school but I have to say they are not. The only thing I can say is maybe in the high school league play they don`t play for the team? and maybe thats why their teams don`t win? Its a good thing for our local kids to win on any level. Just a few thoughts on this

  96. fanotgame

Hockey is a team game. With very few exceptions, you need a supporting cast on the ice for the superstar to carry the team. Willows working alone would have had trouble doing what he did this year. He needed Shuman. Two of the kids listed above are Dmen. Hard to dominate play (on the scoresheet, at least) from the blueline. Maybe the forwards listed above don’t have the support on the ice. And if a team doesn’t have strong goaltending, then advancing in the playoffs is difficult no matter how good the skaters are.

  97. to must be a weak tournament

I am sure you feel better about yourself when you try to put down the kids that have success in travel where you can pick where and how competitive your team will be. I’m sorry if winning a state championship makes your son playing on the third line on suffern seem like less of an accomplishment.

  98. to the last poster

I think “must be a weak tournament” was in response to the two posts that claimed high school hockey was a joke. It was obviously from a pro-travel person. You can t call it a joke unless you can destroy it and many of the kids who play both travel and high school do not destroy the high school league. Of course some travel hockey will be better with teams recruiting from larger areas and putting together all star type teams with lots of skill and depth. Putting down high school hockey when you can t totally destroy it is dumb. I think some high school people are tired of the arrogance that “some” travel people have. Not all just some.

  99. to must be a weak tournament

Thats fair, but i wrote what i said cause im sick of some of the high school people who honestly believe that high school is a fair judge of talent. In travel, you have to make a good team and can choose if they want to play down. In high school, you can be an above average player who plays for a great team and gets all sort of attention for it (i wont name names.) While at the same time top of the line players that end up playing for weak schools get kicked to the curb and ignored (guess where i play). There are a few obnoxious travel people like me, but there are many more obnoxious high school people. And the guy i wrote to clearly doesnt have a strong understanding of what makes a good hockey player.
