Joe Lombardi did not become familiar with lacrosse until after graduating from both Irvington High School and the University of Dayton — neither of which offered the sport. But it didn't take him long to take a liking to it since it combines elements of several of his favorite sports: basketball, hockey and football. Rob Fine broke a 1-1 tie with 7:53 left in the third period and top-seeded Mamaroneck went on to defeat third-seeded White Plains 4-1 today at Tate Rink in West Point.
Mamaroneck will play at Section 10 champion and defending state champion Massena on Saturday.
